you're missing out an important aspect here : rolemodel punishment. By letting the so called 'poor' customers get away with not paying, the ones that could perhaps pay will associate them with the non paying ones. So the *IAA will go after poor ones, even though they know it won't make a difference dollar-wise.
I am also a self-employed developer/consultant (although I'm technically a programmer, I find myself spending a lot more time on consultancy)
Keeping your first customer is NOT perse a good thing. Only if you still make money on work for that customer. The first 10 years of my own business, I found my self spending a lot of time giving phone-support for previously programmer stuff. Or for other stuff... or for no stuff at all (help, my mouse doesn't work properly anymore !)... The most difficult thing in being self employed is : learn to charge for everything. If you work on something, even if it is only 5 minutes : bill'em.
It's the only advice I can give. If you start a relationship with your customer based on free support (in the widest possible interpretation of support), yuo're fucked
it will transfer data at twice the speed of USB 2.0
Is that even possible ? Would any properly certified USB host-controller not be limited to USB2 speeds, unless they also force you to buy a PCI card that is M-whatever compatible ?
I regret that this comment is modded 'funny'. I just went to divorce after my wife ran of with a bloke from the gym club without even the slightest sorry. Having invested 7 years of emotion, payed for the house 2/3, put 3 kids on te world and working my ass off (she did a lazy-ass college doctoral job worth shit, and then lived 2 years off of wellfare while I busted my ass trying to pay the bills) I wish I had known her better before I decided to bind my faith to hers...
Good advice to all you youngsters : a girlfriend in highschool/college is a completely different person after you both start to work and begin a serious (=boring) life

Is that zero , or zero billion ?

lol... do you realize how stupid that comment is ? Maybe Paul Allen & Bill Gates give three gazillionsquillionfabrillion dollars anonymously. But you'd never know, wouldya ?
You've just proven how single-sided your thinking is.
While I applaud your suggestions for SSL, PGP et al., one should realize that none of these protect against network intrusion, or more often : someone living of your bandwidth...
let's wait for real info shall we ?
Plasma is in a stadium now where LCD was a few years back : cool technology but stuck in the circle of expensive->low sales->expensive->...
yeah. I think that's the only reason to have a Koolance : a lower CPU temp, so you can overclock. Peeps buying watercooling for silence should look elsewhere.
it is NOISY ! I'm at work now, so I don't know my exact model, but it looks like the one on the Koolance main page (in black, with a case side window, glow-in-the-dark cooling liquid and 2 blacklights in the case). It looks nifty, but I really don't know why they put 3 of these big turbine ventilators on top of the machine when my CPU and GPU are water cooled ? These vents make a horrible noise, even when in low speed mode. In fact, I bought a shuttle 2 weeks ago, which is NOT water cooled but a lot more quiet !
hard to find, not cheap, but I got my 2nd hand Cube for 800 euro. I equipped it with bluetooth (USB dongle) and airport. Then I dissembled an old PC LCD monitor to encapsulate it in a wooden frame which hangs on the wall, with the cables going thru the wall (the other side of the wall is staircase to basement). Now all I need are stylish speakers (the Apple Pro speakers are not such good quality (I don't like the soundsticks by the way)) and I have a really really nice audio setup that everyone envies.
Not to spoil the party, but the default user created under OSX after a clean is also an admin user... How many people will go through te hassle of creating a second user ?
For reference, my Shuttle XPC with an Athlon64 3500+ (1GB Ram, 7200rpm SATA HD) hot-boots windows XP in 17 seconds flat. a cold boot takes 1 second extra
My mac G5 (dual 1.8GHz) boot a little slower (25secs) but after boot, remains at 0%, whereas the shuttle keeps humming and buzzing for about a minute (while it is 100% responsive though)
I really like the default one that you see when clicking the article link : a splashscreen that looks like slashdot, but with this funy little spinning cursor.
This is one of the things that seems really really hard for novice users : distinguising between email and browsing (many consider email as something not internet related), and understanding that the browser is not the internet, as much as MS word is not your text document.
I've had several people ask my if I was sure it wasn't spelled 'Enternet', since its icon is a big blue E... sigh...
okay, i'm going to say something incredibly naive now:
so what ?
It's not like the US (or EU, where I live) somehow becomes a minority population all of a sudden ! We will become a less influent factor in the world economics. Probably behind Asia, but in front of South America or Africa. We will stop being cutting edge on quite a few domains. But it is not like as if somehow we'll have to live on water and bread. Maybe, just maybe, the asian uprising is a small step towards global leveling of powers (okay, that was really naive. Forget I just said that). People should stop thinking that the asians are taking away our lives. They are just taking away some of the luxuries that we didn't have an exclusive on anyway. Get over it. Grow up. Be happy, not jaleous

That's not economics, but sociology.
it wasn't 5 minutes :-)
sub-5-minute advice is free ! woohoo !

Can anyone recommend a SILENT G4cube compatible 80GB HD ?

Could it not be that clicks on links in Spam HTML mail, which gets displayed with an ActiveX IE control in Outlook, get registered as IE ad-clicks ?

They managed to get some work done and build some cool stuff together.

It strikes me that you're talking of 'they', not 'we'... Were you one of the mac or IBM donuts ?
Add below the most silly domain name you've encountered so far ! this one is a nice start
well, it's a pretty difficult thing to do after you're dead...
