but have you had a job in any major profession outside of teaching?
Military for 4 years, Security for 5 years, Education for more years... So, I guess not.:-)
A lot of teachers live in a bubble and assume stuff like this based on overexposure to bad news as well as superimposing their pessimism on the world around them.
I can totally agree to this. I try to get "outside" of that bubble and not be pessimistic about the world.
Some of the examples you used make sense (Asking a friend, use of internet), but the others are way off base. Am I missing the satire,
There was a some satire, but it was not clear, I guess. So, what I wrote is what people read.
are you basing this off of a bad work experience,
Not really. I've always enjoyed my work. Unless I am being shot at: Military and School.:-)
or are you delusional?
:-)
The bad apple is the exception, not the rule...it just receives more attention.
Thanks for a great rebuttal. Your points are all great. I suppose I could be a litte more clear in my original post. I certainly do not condone the idea of business that I pictured.
(Disclosure: I'm a teacher and I am pretty sure my principal isn't reading slashdot.)
Cheating...
Nearly everything that a "teacher" calls cheating is an accepted practice in the business world. Schools, in the US anyway, are mainly geared toward getting a student involved in some type of business.
Cheating - Looking off someone's work.
Business - Gaining direction.
Cheating - copying.
Business - Using available resources.
Cheating - use of internet.
Business - again, using available resources so you can build on another's success.
Cheating - adjusting grades
Business - Creative accounting.
Cheating - asking a friend for an answer
Business - Collaboration. This person is a team player.
Our educational system is 19th century organization using 19th century ideals. What should we teach today? How about some analysis: Teach not "what is the right answer?" but "Why is this answer right?"
Teach not "what is X?" but "How does X change when Y is introduced?"
Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it. I also teach and am looking into getting a tablet of some sort to help with various tasks such as attendance, lesson planning, and assorted record-keeping.
Have a great day!

IF the NFL goes this way, I want to see their playbooks in the Ap Store. If I can;t make my own custom Aps without apple getting all pissy about me doing it, I better see the NFL Playbook there.

(stupid slashdot filter this I hve too many capitals...Little does it know that I've uploaded a virus! HAHA..opps hahahha)
As a magician, I have known this for years. Dai Vernon, The Professor, explains that concept the scientists just discovered as a simplistic beautiful statement, "A larger action covers (or hides) a smaller action."
Science finally catches up to the magicians.. Damn them.:-)
I was in Japan a few years ago and had a great Vending experience. Doing Laundry, there was a whiskey/Beer/Sake vending machine. I had a great time doing laundry. However, I didn't have to present an ID, smile for a camera, or do anything except put my Yen into the machine....There is a Large level of trust in the Isle country that cannot be found here in the US.
I asked Manaka, Teenager I was staying with, if she or her friends ever went over to the alcohol vending machines. She replied very seriously that, "No. That is wrong."
NASA has discovered a completely new life form that doesn't share the biological building blocks of anything currently living in planet Earth.
This makes it seem as if extraterrestrial life was found. But this was found in Mono Lake, California? So is it Life, as in living? ore life as in "was" living?
I'll be tuning in at the conference.
There is no legitimate reason for this technology to be used without a court order.
Bullshit. Right underneath your post are two buttons. One is 'Reply', the other is 'Parent'
A parent should be able to use this. A parent is responsible for know where a child is and what the child is doing. If my daughter had a cell phone, I would use this to determine if she is working out some affair with a lecherous principal or teacher. Before you, and others, scoff, This happened recently in my county. A high school principal was having sexual encounters with a student and was discovered via a discovery made by the parent of incoming/outgoing texts made on the daughter cell phone.
I'd hate to use a cliche, but "Think of the Children."
I'm going to go to the local StarBucks and register in their name and address and read/download about 100,000 pages. I hope they send starbucks a nice fat bill... Never did like them.
You know, there are a lot of ways to describe "creatures. THere is a simple checklist. Does somethings possess 1). a Body. 2). free will 3). Soul.
Humans have4 all three,
Animals have 2 (or one), a body (maybe a soul?) but no free will.
An Angel/Demon have two of these as well. Free Will, a Soul, but no Body.
I've loved the idea of Religion and Aliens.:-) Who knows, maybe Angels/spirits/demons are aliens. (Well they are alien to us, but maybe that are ET-type aliens.)
I recall having many long conversations with a priest about the possibility of the existence of Aliens. religiously speaking, one of the questions that intrigues me the most is are the aliens corrupted by "Original Sin?" What would society be like if we did not have this tendency to do "wrong" when now one was looking? What if the aliens do not have that tendency? What if they have never "eaten of the forbidden fruit?"
Are they Pre-Fallen or have they fallen?
Pre-Fallen: THey are going to be nice and cure our cancer and help us in any way possible.
Fallen: They are going to wipe us out and destroy us in a way that S. Hawkins is going to say, "I told you so."
This has been going on for quite a while. Amazon has been doing it for years. If I browse for Ender's Game, sure enough, the next time I show up, there it is in a recommended section, and even in Amazon ads on other sites. (Creepy adds reading cookies).
Anyway, "I know about" a scenario when someone at the workplace left her Amazon account logged in at a computer that others use. Well, a mischievous person browsed all sorts of Amazon's seedier sides for anal beads, dildos, lesbian literature, etc and added a bunch of these items to a wish list. To this day, she is still getting perverted recommendations... Or so I am told.:-)
(I only "know" about this situation, I'm sure it wasn't me.)
I installed it on my ipod touch Latest 32 gig version.
The folders work as expected except there are no folders within folders and only 9(? maybe 6--i forgot) icons in a folder.
Tried the multi-tasking was going to talk to buddy on skype and play a game... No dice. The app you leave closes out. The multi-tasking seems to be a "list" of previously launched apps. Bah.
I know this is difficult, but if you don't like it, don't patronize the place there.
Don't take this as a personal slant,
'tis alright.

True.

Again, thanks for a great response.

Get people to think! You get the idea.

Well, Here you can watch the entire thing, all 117 minutes of its beauty. Enjoy.
Been on Piratebay for Years. Glad to see that Pink will get some cash now for their efforts. (Not that they need any more.)
Yeah, Look at airplane tickets and how much they have gone down...
Or better yet, Phone companies! My bill is as low as... Egads! It isn;t. Help!

If I want to get laid, I should spend hours on facebook while texting...
If I knew this 30 years ago while I was in high school, I would have been unstoppable...Oh wait.
If I want to get laid, my chances are better if I surf facebook while texting.

Do not worry. The control group will not be fucking.
It takes more than software to publish a paper...
A small press and the paper for it is a serious investment.
