But he is not involved in actively advocating the use of those makes. As a LUG president, he surely is.
I just don't get it... He advocates that linux is a viable operating system for almost any purpose, but when someone "bad" agrees with him, his thinking is totally wrong? If Osama Bin Laden started using "Nova20's Wonderful Underpants", I wouldn't disown my company. The way I look at it, if I can convince people that I don't agree with that my product is useful, then I've done a *good* job. There's nothing shameful about it.
Somebody wake me when there's a new data storage more cost effective than a traditional hard disk, because that's what 99% of us care about for mass storage.
Well, you took enough time to read the/. blib, click on the "read more..." link and post something. It seems like you were more interested in this story than most of us are about 75% of the stories on slashdot.
...and it bothers the fuck out of me when I go home for a visit... I'm so used to my zippy 1.5 Mb/s that the 56k just doesn't cut it.
My dad says he's considered switching to Cable (the only broadband they have in my 1-horse home town), but he doesn't for 2 reasons:
1) A dial-up keeps his phoneline busy, and telemarketers are not likely to leave a message on CallWave
2) He does other things besides sit in front of his computer, so if he has to do critical updates or update his AV defs, he can set it to go and then walk away from the computer to do something else...
I figure most people his age (or older) think the same way if they even have a computer.
I cannot imagine how someone can function without hearing that Ding! each time a new email arrives. I'd be lost, ever wondering, "do I have another Symantec AV warning about an attempted incoming virus message?"
Offtopic, but funny: I got an email today that said: This attachment contains the xxxx virus. Please use it to update your virus definitions.
Mcafee screamed at me the instant I clicked on the email.
Well, at least the sender was honest. the attachment did contain a virus!
Back when I had my old 80MHz "Power" mac, I remember a guy that made a HC game called Arena. Basically, you step into an arena and fight different opponents... kinda a Final Fantasy fighting style: wait for your clock to count down and then either "Attack" or "cast spell" or numerous other things.
Everyone lauged at him, but I thought it was a pretty cool game. Simple, but amusing.
...How the article *raves* about how this car was made for women by women and the seats are changeable to contour to a women's different clothing styles, etc...
..and then it kinda says "oh yeah -- by the way, the hood can only be opened by a mechanic" near the end.
4) Here is one of several reviews of Half-Life 2 alpha version: http://www.3dnews.ru/games/half-life2-alfa/. It's in Russian, but you can look at screenshots, or use the fish.
According to the second law of thermodynamics, any action or reaction will cause energy to become further dispursed... meaning entropy, or randomness, of the universe is increased.
There's the example of spilled water. In order to "clean up" the mess, I can use a sponge or paper towel, but in doing so, the water gets into the sponge (and some particles still on the surface). Water evaporates from the sponge (or towel) and the surface into the air. Now, thought the water is not on the surface anymore, it is spread randomly throughout the room -- Entropy is increased.
So, according to this physical rule, it doesn't matter what we do -- try to "fix" the situation or allow it to get worse on its own -- the situation of the universe will only degrade.
What I mean to say is that ultimately, no matter what we do, energy will be so dissipated that it is impossible to harvest any for good use and our time will eventually come to an end.
I don't think you read my entire post. that 7-8 hrs is continuous use. Do you sit and play with your palm pilot the whole trip? I wouldn't. You'd probably sleep some of the time, which conserves battery power on your PDA. In practice, it'll probably last quite a bit more than 7-8 hrs.
supposely this battery lasts for 7-8 hrs. You can fly almost anywhere (and in most cases, back) in 8 hrs.
and mind you, that's 8 hrs *continuous use*. The battery on my palm will last for 4 hours on continuous use, but if I don't actively use it, it could last for months.
My point is, that if the battery does last this long, then there would be no use to take a recharge on the plane with you (at least not in your carry-on luggage).
Even if you were on vacation or something and you needed to recharge, I'm sure (by the time this technology is viable) that it would be fairly redily available at a specialty store (like radio shack). If other markets start using this tech, there will be a higher demand for availability of methanol.

Well I certainly don't like this technology... if women can procreate without us, how are we ever going to get laid?

A suitcase car would be useless. Who wants to carry around a 2000lb suitcase... or even a 100lb suitcase for that matter?

I don't think that speaks well of the system... if my *computer* were 200 years old...
...uh... I'd probably sell it for a bunch of money.
Ok, maybe that was a bad example.

probably because he didn't know. He just ordered a computer and knew that it had a speaker jack.

By the by, I wonder what distro he was buying that was as expensive as an XP upgrade... That's *way* too much for software that you can get free.

So what good is this disk if it has to be hermetically sealed away?

Good idea, but the teacher would probably catch on when you pulled out your microscope to read it.
