Is dependent upon your computer, not on your connection speed/etc. -- I purchased Half-Life2 over Steam weeks ago, and on Tuesday at 12:05am, it took about 20 minutes to unlock (it thrashed away on the hard drive, presumably un-encrypting the cache file..)
I wish people would stop knocking Steam, especially for BS reasons like unlocking time.
Come on, you could practically overlay Media Center's interface over iTunes, and probably 80% of it would line up. That's a rip-off. I don't care if it was around several years before iTunes, but it obviously wasn't using iTune's interface before iTunes came up with it..
As far as I understand, they disabled auto-update a few builds back because it would constantly say FireFox was out of date. Don't know the reasoning behind that one.
Sophear Em was so fascinated with the game Counter-Strike that he and an accomplice dressed in black fatigues, balaclava and ski goggles to emulate characters from the game.
If it's CBR, yes, it's easier to just just to a jump to a certain time. But, if it's VBR, there should be a "XING" VBR header to give the codec some idea of where that time frame is. The codec jumps to that point, and then starts seeking frames to find that exact timecode. That can take up a little more time/processing power than CBR would.
Distilled water has very little conductivity -- I've actually spilled some on my video card and it kept running happily. Not that I would suggest it, though.
I don't understand why people use anti-freeze in their computer water cooling systems-- it's not going to be all that more efficient at cooling than say, distilled water, and with some water additive for your distilled water, you don't have to worry about corrosion or rusting.
Tomb Raider and Resident Evil weren't that bad. I mean, come on, they're movies based on video games for crying out loud. Are you expecting some Shakespearean acting or whatever? Resident Evil 2 was a bit too campy for my tastes, but still semi-decent.
Buuut... Tomb Raider 2 was one of the worst movies ever made, though. Mortal Kombat is pretty high up there as well.
What you linked to is not a "draft", and it's stupid that they're calling it a "backdoor draft".
When you join the military, it's all right there. You may be required to commit longer than your actual term. If you don't understand or agree with that, then you probably shouldn't be in the military.
Also, if you've joined the military just to get a (nearly) free ride to college, you're probably in it for the wrong reasons as well.
I have a few friends in various branches of the service, and they all have expressed to me their desire to go back (re-up) after their commitment dates, and to actually _go back_ into Iraq/Afghanistan. Go figure. Maybe someone should do a poll about what the soldiers think.
While we're at it, we can note that the Democrats tried to get a draft started before the war, to prevent rich and connected Republicans from avoiding the effects on their families of sending other kids to war for them.
[Wasn't that from Farhenheit 9/11?] If that's truly the reason, it makes "Democrats" look incredibly silly and childish. The whole sending "kids" to war phrase needs to go away. Do you call someone who is 18+ a kid or child? Nor do I think "upper class" or "rich" people (not just Republicans) tend to avoid the service. I think you'll find a diverse population of people who want to serve just like you'll find a diverse population of people who don't want to serve.
It's funny that the whole draft bill was introduced into the senate by democrats, and was completely shot down recently (only 2 people voted for it, and they were the ones who introduced it, go figure.)
So, anything else you want to try and scare college/high school kids with?
What you're describing is probably a ground loop of some kind. Try running your PC's power supply through the same power strip/power outlet as your powered speakers.
My Dell laptop will cause noise through the speakers when the mouse moves/etc. unless they're plugged into the same outlet.
That created lock-in and made is easy for them to push ActiveX and IIS to sell Windows servers
Says who? The numbers don't reflect that, FYI, as Apache holds the web server "market share". You also aren't required to use IIS in order to deploy ActiveX objects on your website.
To add insult to injury, they ignored IE for years after they won the first browser battle - simply because they had achieved their market dominance.
Who cares? You can use any browser you want. No one's forcing you to use IE's. Like I said, anyone can make a better product anytime.
So does that include the following apps as well? We don't want to offend anyone or cause any competition!!!
HyperTerminal Volume Control Windows Media Player Windows Movie Maker Backup Character Map Defragmenter System Restore Address Book Notepad Wordpad Paint

What a wonderful iTunes rip-off. Hah.

Here's another article:

If you're trying to set up OGG streaming, use jetCast or something for Winamp-- it works with Winamp5 just fine.
Winamp5 will also play OGG streams just fine-- but I personally use FooBar2000.
For the record, I cannot believe how good OGG vorbis sounds at just 64kbps VBR. Beats the pants off of 128kbps CBR MP3 for streaming.
To use no evidence as evidence or backing of your statement is a bit silly, and a common fallacy.
Got some proof to back that up?
Oh wait, you don't.
Congrats on that failure of a counter-attack.
The figure of 100,000 - estimated by extrapolating the surveyed households' death toll to the whole population
Yeah, ok. Congrats on your screwy math.
A lot of MP3 decoders only allow so much garbage in the header (usually 16k, I believe?) before they just give up and declare the file not playable.

Someone should tell the Hoobastank lead singer to stop wasting time playing video games and learn how to actually sing.
It's great to call something what it isn't.

ATI released 4.9 betas the same day Doom3 came out.
:)
So, uhm, yeah.
One would argue that Firefox's popularity/"market share" is on the rise, despite Microsoft's "dominance".

Your logic astounds me.
You're totally retarded.
Please park your car in a closed garage, roll down your windows, and let that baby idle as you fall asleep.
Read the other comment to your post.
Who cares? What benefits the end-user? Microsoft:
1) Made a better product (IE)
2) Gives it away for free.
What the crap is wrong with that?
Are you going to get upset with Apple for giving away iTunes, iPhoto and iMovie? What about Safari?
Either you make a better product, or admit defeat. It's fairly simple logic. The whole bad stink about IE being bundled into windows is stupid.
incapable of being customized (internal popup blocker did not come till SP 2)
Huh? You can install BHO's, such as Google's or MSN's toolbar, or an app I use called PopUpCop to deal with that stuff. So yeah, IE can be customized.
