MIT's unwarranted use of Radix's lead character, "Valerie Fiores," DID NOT permanently damage the comic book!
This is just total BS! Ray Lai is using this as a marketing stunt. Now Radix is gaining a lot of free publicity. Ray Lai should be grateful that MIT has used their character!
MIT did steal copyrighted material. Of cause MIT should have asked permission before using Radix material. I am sure Ray Lai would have appreciated the chance to get more publicity if MIT had asked before stealing the material. Now Ray Lai gets the all the publicity and gets to bitch and moan about it at the same time. Lucky break for him indeed.
This is not about freedom of religion but about whether or not the government should recognise Jediism as a religion and fund the building of jedi temples.
70.000 people is a lot though, is there somewhere one can petition for this to become recognised as a religion?
You beat me to it. This is like studies proving that looking away from the road while driving is a bad thing (I think that was from a 60 minutes show some time ago). The scary part is that somebody is is actually funding these studies!
Why do people insist on being so incredibly stupid that they need scientific studies to proove the obvious?
Aside from that, knowing which gene enables us to speak will allow for some fun with genetic engineering...
Which brings on the next question: why would I want my pet to be able to speak? Given that it is a cat with a cat's somewhat limited intelligence what could a cat possibly say to me? "I'm hungry" in stead of "meeow"? Why would I want this?
In theory it would be possible to "hack-proof" a product in such a manner that a brute-force attack would take longer than any individual or entity's lifetime, or cost more $$$ than any individual or entity's net worth.
This is the theory behind micropayments, where each internet-cred is worth so little that decrypting it would cost more in electricity than it is worth, thus making it more costly to steal then buy the internet-cred.
so I think it really matters more what is in the license than how it is presented.
this time how it is presented is in the license.
Personally I think click throughs are very annoying and hate to read a legal document in a 3 by 3 inch box. Aside from that you are perfectly correct: it doesn't violate any of the requirements of the Open Source Definition and as such could be allowed by the OSI board.
The question still stands, should we disallow something simply because it is annoying and disregard the legal implications?
[...] plus, you would need programmers to make the interfaces not interface designers.
maybe that is the very problem: this language is so easy that it makes designers think they can actually do things that are ment for programmers to do. Trying to make complex things simple has been cause for most of the bad things out there today...
hopefully we will get a real programming language to write in using this framework (haven't read the specifics yet) so we may use flash more productively.
The company I work for have been mixing php and flash for quite some time to achieve the same effects. I has always felt a little hacky to mix php and flash since flash doesn't really like to talk to a database. Hopefully this framework will help out in making our solutions more clean.
I haven't read their entire description of their framework yet (I am going to) but it sounds very promising. Having/. propose new software packages for my company is actually quite nice:)
IANAL but I think the law in Denmark (where I live) states that blasfemy is illegal and all illegal sites are shut down as quickly as they pop up. So they shut down a couple of illegal sites. Blesfemous or otherwise illegal, they have every right to shut them down and of cause they did, and prolly will do again inthe future...
Untrue. You cannot use normal analysis, design, and implementation as taught in computer science classes. Games need some different approach in order to be well designed. UML and it's associated design and implementation ideas will only take you so far... in order to actually build a game you will have to use some other paradigm different from the ones used in application development.
I would like to actually have a chance to use this product and then be happy to donate some money to the people making it if i like it, but without the documentation I hardly stand a chance of getting it to work seamlessly in my environment or even configure it properly, so I cannot really test it... This may be an ugly side effect of open source projects, but I find myself wishing for shareware...
For non-free products try before you buy seemss very fair, but I cannot really try JBoss:(
hopefully this ruling will make precedence and let all the other rulings follow in quick succession w/o the long court process...

well... like java all the libraries are going to flucturate wildly for at least a couple of versions... so there is really no point in submitting anything a language spec (that of C#) and the CLI to ECMA, is there?
ehhmmm... my.NET knowledge is very limited, could you spell it out for me a little? what is there to.NET besides the runtime environment + compiler + libs?
Why is that? does dotGNU have something that Mono is missing? if so, what?

now... I don't know what your/mnt/win_c is mounted to but I guess it's your Windows partition. But I do not own a Windows license and do not have a Windows partition. What am I to do?
After seeing holes in OpenBSD and Apache recently,
oh come on, the apache vulnerabilities were embarrasing, but that does not make all the vulnerabilities of IIS alright. And according to the new strategy of MS you are going to pay a subscription fee to MS to get updates. Apache updates are going to remain free.
I guess it's Microsoft's turn again.
Microsofts turn at what? They still don't have the most widely used web server. They still do not patch as fast as the free alternatives are patched. We still cannot see the source since that would pressent a threat to national security.
Being forbidden to do any computer related role makes it hard to maintain any job these days. Actually he cannot even sit at a counter nor a bus driver... almost any device has a omputer in it these days... I haven't read the minutes of Kevins trials but I think the sentence was a bit less restrictive than that.
Okay, so how is this any different from downloading some MP3 songs to see if you'd like to buy the CD?
Maybe because I buy the CDs if I like music, but I don't go out and earn $50 million from playing my downloaded MP3 to the US army.

This one was Network Assiciates though... not to be confused with Network Solutions.

There are a truck load of them but they all just seem to be front ends to Microsofts rendering engine.
well, that perfectly ok then, since it's not the rendiring engine that's the trojan, it's the application using the rendering engine...
Is there a layman's reference I can read about how OpenGL 2.0 works?
There's a very nice overview with more information here.

1. install NWN in WINE
will work...
