I've got to agree. The Matrix was a great movie. But it was a comic book adaptation without the comic book. It was about style, colouring and shots and enough of a story to pique your interest. A vague theme and plot, a nice little twist when the Matrix is revealed. And a superhero who has to come to terms with his power. They made a great movie by focusing on making a moving comic book - it was kind of their forte. And like Lucas, they failed when they took their own movies too seriously and bought into the mythology and philosophy crap.
Can I ask why you can't just rent a dedicated server in the US or elsewhere (where these things cost less than $100, with ridiculous amounts of included bandwidth)? Its not like you ever need access, since the hardware is leased. And obviously there's no 'political' issues with putting things offshore if you are prepared to use Google's service.
I agree totally. I never buy a game until its been released and reviewed by the public. And I'll add that I never buy a game without reading the _bad_ comments and reviews (and I've yet to find a game without detractors in some shape or form). This is true of everything I buy - I generally get much more of an insight from the (constructive) critisism than the praise.
The point being that if you intercept the pictures you can see and compare how well different techniques interfere with the pictures. I thought that was also 'blindingly obvious'.
Well, unfortunately most of the world's legal systems disagree with you (including those of the EU, most European countries own laws, the laws of the United States of America and many others).
Of course you can blame it on witch-hunts, bigger boys or whatever you want, but I personally blame it on Microsoft for knowingly breaking the law.
Whilst that may be true (we won't know until its implemented in the UK), I already recommend SSL for all smtp, imap and pop connections so the info gathered would be very limited. They would know they had made a connection to port 465 on my server but they couldn't be sure it was email and they certainly wouldn't know the sender or recipient.
I certainly hope you are right - I too run a local web/email hosting business in the UK and now I'm thinking that this legislation could prove benificial to me if it only applies to telcos and ISPs (rather than hosts). I can now sell security from government and police snooping as one of my features.
I guess I'll have to wait until the law is actually implemented. At a push the Isle of Man http://www.gov.im/ sits right between Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales yet is not a part of the UK or the EU (its a UK Crown Dependency but has its own Govnerment). For email and web hosting the latency would be minimal and its a nice enough place.
I thought you had freedom of speech? Are you saying there are limits on that speech? So how is that freedom of speech any more free than other countries which have certain limits on freedom of speech?
You can't have a very high opinion of your country if you believe the only reason for foreigners to come is 'the Capitalism'. What about the country, the landmarks, the people, the history, the weather, the beaches, the skiing, the diversity, the shopping, the surfing, etc, etc...?
Since we already have 'the Capitalism' here in the UK, I guess a visit to the US would be a waste of time.

Dr Robert Melamede, of the University of Colorado, said that, while chemically the two were similar, tobacco was more carcinogenic.
He said the difference was mainly due to nicotine in tobacco, whereas cannabis may inhibit cancer because of the presence of the chemical THC.
What the hell does Blackberry do? I've never seen one, but all I can gather is that you get your email on a pager or phone for a monthly fee. Is it more than that? Because I have been able to connect my Nokia phones to my imap or pop server for years now - I can even use SSL for incoming and outgoing, keep a permanent connection open (thanks to 3G), and have as many different accounts as I want.
I'm not making a dig, I just don't really understand what it is I'm missing about Blackberry. Or is it just another PHB buzzword gizmo?
Ah well, you were marked as a troll. I thought it was funny though, so kudos from me. Its a pitty really , because I had some mod points this morning.
Anyway - In his bosses office...
"God damn you McManager, I've got head office on my back and they want your ass. You've got 24 hours to solve the case and finish the project or I'm taking your badge and your gun. Now get the hell out of my office!."
But this wasn't exactly ground breaking either. I've been using Nokia phones for years that I can connect to my PC using a USB cable (or bluetooth, actually) and download and listen to music.
Do they even make phones these days that _can't_play mp3s?
I think you and the GP are both right. It really depends on your peer group. I would not choose to use MSN Messenger, but sadly since everyone I know uses it I have no choice. I could switch to AIM or Yahoo or some obscure client but I would have to also search for new family and friends, which isn't really practical. And they are not all going to change with me, because they also have their own family and friends who would have to be persuaded to change.
I'm pretty sure that most people I know are not "pro-MSN" - they are simply pro-being-in-the-loop. Much like yourself, they probably don't know anybody that uses AIM, but have MSN contact lists as long as your arm.
To put it another way, assuming you are an English speaker, do you suppose that French, Spanish or Mandarin Chinese are just localised cliques?
Hey, I'm not complaining. Its just the layout I'm used to and like.
I have the main panel on the right, which even on my tiny 1024 laptop screen, takes up a third of the row. The other two thirds are dead space - BUT that's how I like it. I have my personal bar with a few web links and a few searches below that, then tabs with an address bar for each tab.
Considering I work on workstations with 1600x1200 res, a couple of hundred square pixels of dead space (or ads) makes no difference - except on my laptop I never even fullscreen the app.
I'm a 100% Opera user and have even made quite a few converts in my time. Firefox always seems slow and bloated - I guess you have to have come from IE to be impressed.
That's my tuppence anyway.

And GTA is the second best thing I can do in the palm of my hand.
I cut a hole in the side of my fridge to check, but I couldn't see a thing.
...but sadly they are not.

The +5 troll - I've heard of such things, but always assumed they were just tales told to children on long winter evenings.
But to be fair, I think the rest of your comment is pretty insightful ;).
Its a pity everyone seems to have missed the joke - sorry I don't have mod points.
I like Americans, and there are many things they've done right - but HOLY JINGOISM BATMAN!

Presumably you can back up your own statement?
I don't have mod points though, sorry. I just thought the parant deserved more attention.
Ah, the 'terrorist' and 'drug' combo card. You win.

Actually, Opera is now permanently ad free. http://www.opera.com/
