Lets not forget the hardware mpeg2 decoder - dxr3. A lot of people have worked on this and it has resulted in a very decent driver. It has had absolutely zero help from sigma. There is even hacks to make it display rgb directly to your tv, bypassing the crappy composite and svideo.
I've been running the 2.6 test for a while and the latest O1int patches from con have really made this a pleasure for desktop users. 2.6-test3-mm2 had massive skips when playing xmms and untaring, like 2.4 also has on my machine. But 2.6-test4-mm1 completely fixed this. I have not had a skip yet. Please not that this is from normal usage.
Well the reason they are so popular is because two-three years ago they were many times cheaper than harddrives pr. mb. This is not true today but dvdr's are overtaken that role.
Sorry can't be there so I'll just ask here. When will slashdot be reachable from ipv6? ipv6.slashdot.org works but it points to a ipv4 adresse. Couldn't find any AAAA records with dig:(
How much does 128mb flash card for this thing cost? I'm really considering buying one and using it as my mobile audio player. Remember it's about the only thing you can get that plays ogg!
correction DSA is not ECC.
GnuPG can use DSA which is ECC. And as the other one said you can't compare sym. crypto with asym. crypto.
GPL
Very insightful. Have you thought of any meaning for the fibonacci series displayed at the very beginning of Reloaded?
I wonder when WASTE will be ported to Linux & gcc. It fails to compile here with gcc 3.2.3
Is this a new version of "Will the real slim shady please stand up"? Sorry couldn't resist.

Well the last one took over 6 months. Remember that most people won't install and test kernels unless it's "final"

It blocks the email address. If anyone is stupid enough to mail the blockme address they should be blacklisted :)
The only email address I have on my site is blockme@mydomain and if anyone sends an email to that one they get blacklisted. Easy but effective.

and that linux box used to run BSD but for some reason they now use GNU/Linux. Looks like they had a good run with BSD, ohh well
It's pretty expensive on amazon. 128mb for 240$ and 20gb for $380. You can get an Apple Ipod 10gb for 280$
Well there is a whole network, silcnet, that builds upon irc but makes it safe. It not that far away from 1.0. http://www.silcnet.org/
When I visited Cebit this year in Germany the only linux distro that you would hear about was Suse, which makes sense since Suse is a german company.
Have you thought about implementing anonymous features in Bittorrent? What about making bittorrent fully distributed, as in no tracker.
MPlayer can also play video directly out of bin/cue-files. At least if it's a (s)vcd.
Well Arpi is still there on the mailinglist doing stuff, he's just not the maintainer any longer.
mms is a menu system for playback of music and movies. It supports framebuffer/dxr3 and lircd/keyboard.
I think 1.0x is still considered the stable one... 1.02 will be out soon. In fact according to the roadmap 1.0x will continue to at least 1.4.
My project mms has all the above requirements if combined with a linux box and a dxr3 :)
you can find it here.
Linux demo _has_ been released.
