Oh come on. Not many people have enough photos and MP3s to fill even 10GB nevermind 120GB or 160GB. I am still using a 10GB HD in my XP machine. Yeah, my music is stored elsewhere but it's still less than 7GB of MP3s and 10GB more for SHN/FLAC (which most people aren't into). I want to know how many regular computer userse have 100GB of music and photos. Geeks are in the minority when it comes to computer purchases from major vendors that would be hurt by this "gamble". I'm sure it won't be anything for them to worry about.
The need for larger HD's is for Digital Video. With Firewire built in, people not used to even thinking doing video editing will have a great time using the iLife suite. I filled up 5 DV tapes of my son's first year and I'm very glad I went with the 160GB option on me eMac. I'd have been scrambling to fit it on the 80GB HD
I hope the decision to go with 2.5" HDs doesn't bite them in the ass. Yes, there are External drives, and I'm sure LaCie or whoever will come up with some zero footprint drives soon.
I didn't get the Mini because it was small, quiet, or good looking. I got it because OS X is not Windows, is built on BSD, is now affordable, and isn't as susceptible to all the bullshit that my Windows machines are.
A great reason to buy one, but for me, it was third or fourth on my list of the advantages of the Mac platform over Windows.
I read it like a movie trailer
In a world where:
When instead of selling distinct products...
When even software developers don't have...
This Fall, Miramax pictures presents "It's not about the technology"
Starring the 3 time Oscar winner...
I very much enjoy driving my German car, but I tell you, much of the roads in the States are CRAP!.
Biggest reason: we have room to grow , so a lot of the roads are new and poorly built (Why build it to last? we'll have to dig it up again in 8-10 years!)
The firmer suspensions on Euro cars really take a pounding on the car and your posterior.

HAN: Watch your mouth, kid, or you're going to find yourself floating home. We'll be safe enough once we make the jump to hyperspace. Besides, I know a few maneuvers. We'll lose them!
EXTERIOR: SPACE -- PLANET TATOOINE.
Imperial cruisers fire at the pirateship.
INTERIOR: MILLENNIUM FALCON -- COCKPIT.
The ship shudders as an explosion flashes outside the window.
HAN: Here's where the fun begins!
BEN: How long before you can make the jump to light speed?
HAN: It'll take a few moments to get the coordinates from the navi-computer.
HP seems to be trying hard to kill everything of substance that they ever had in Carly's attempt to be a low-cost-Dell-clone company.
No more PA-Risc.
No more Alpha.
No more Itanium Workstations
As much as I loved Alpha, was there a big enough market to create new fabs to keep up with Intel and AMD? As noted in a previous discussions, Itanic servers are still around.
No more Vision NO more Hewlett Packard name
No more Hewlett or Packard involved.
Seems to me that last one triggered when it all started falling apart.
I remember the first "Stevenote" I saw, it was of the color NeXTstation. I would have sold a kidney to get one of those.
The past two "Stevenote"s haven't been as 'Rah Rah Rah", I guess that's what happens when systems mature. It makes one wonder what is in store for OS Eleven.
If you click cancel on the install, there's two other choices on the resulting webpage that direct you to full versions of the patch.
Click on "More information..." below the patch description.
It's isn't easy to find (on two of the five patches my system needed, I had to click around to find the actual file, three of them the file was provided at the bottom of the page.
I give them a passing grade for providing the full install files, but it's a D- for all of the hoops you have to jump through.
And while I think War of the Worlds was a pivotal book and radio production, I don't think the movie was an especially important work.
The radio broadcast wasn't heard by that many people, as I recall it was up against a much more popular show. The publicity afterwards sure did a lot to enhance Orson Welles' career.
In '53 there was the whole "Red Scare" thing and a lot of GIs who had seen the real effects of war. People were used to seeing the newsreels and the thought of a small unit of technologically advanced invaders taking out entire towns must have certainly terrified the mind set of the time.
It would be interesting to see the sales figures on the 487SX. I doubt anyone really bought them. Then, as it is now, most people DO NOT upgrade their PCs. They're appliances.
Also, only the very first 486SXs were DXs with the Math Co-processor disabled. It was much cheaper to make a new die w/o the unit, put it in a plastic (not ceramic) cover. I believe they also went with BGA type interfaces instead of the pins in the ZIF socket.
Which is nearly forever in tech circles.

We already have one. STFW.
It's what you should have done.

No sir, I don't like it.
It's too close to "Shut The F*@k Up". But then again, maybe that's what you're REALLY trying to say

Ctrl-F ?
Sorry, I know it isn't always applicable. Just being a smart-alec.
Old school Human Interface guidelines said that yellow text on a blue background was the easiest on the eyes.
It's still an option in MS Word from the good ol' text days.
Other tips (Walk around 5-10 mins. every 45 minutes or so.) have already been mentioned.
Lesee:
DUKE Ellington
COUNT Basie
Nat "KING" Cole
Of course, for the band "Queen" it meant something diferent.

Han would have to have massive Jedi skills to forsee that.
Sheesh!
I'll mod up any WZ reference. The great thing is it (mostly)) rhymes!
Use "Software update" from the Apple Menu. 1.4.2 Update 2 is the most rece3nt I've seen.

I keep it honest because I like to support the band I enjoy. CDs, attend concerts tours when I can.

Amen to that.

Glad I have a mac at home.
One CD, maybe not. 100+ CDs, definately!

I like to think of it as a horror film.
As I recall, it's now the CPU and the Display that are the biggest power hogs in a laptop.
Would you like to run a 3.4 Ghz processor on a 100MHz bus?? Vanilla IDE (no 33 Mhz bus, no ultra) Yech!
Maybe in the future there'll be some kind of serial optical interface that could last for 5-6 years, but I'm sure that's a long way off.
No, the elephants and the donkeys are both black hats.
