Yeah. Been there. I was working as a co-op, and I was all excited about the new code I had programmed and wanted to test it "right away". Got too excited, lost focus, put the chip in the wrong way.
In my case, I had the tech burn me a new one. All was well.
I call it my "First Engineering F*ck-up" and I keep it in my office. It keeps ya humble
VW had a (nearly) 3L (3 liters/100 km) Lupo experimental car. It had a tiny (1 liter or smaller) TDI and hybrid electric system. I think I saw it on vwvortex a few years ago, but nothing since.
Example: Say you want to convert the M4P's into MP3's for compatibility with your portable player. iTunes won't let you do that, without the tired hack of burning and reripping an audio CD.
So it's too inconvenient to burn & rip, even if it's legal and within the usage rules. You would rather install some code that you have no idea what's it's doing (who really looks at or can understand the source).
Who's to say they won't install some ad-ware in the next version. You'd say "the word will get out about it" well, look at how many Wintel users keep installing Gator/Claria/whatever they call themselves today.
Apple made the usage rights very generous, and as it's been said before in this thread, the more people abuse it, the more likely the RIAA will pull the plug.
There was an article in (printed) MacWorld a while ago about a bloke employed by Apple to go round to professional musicians and demo Apple kit to them.
People like Paul McCartney and a few other big names have tried to blag Apple stuff for free, but they're always turned down.
Steve Jobs Probably wanted to frame Sir Paul's invoice for his office wall.
CDs have nowhere near the production costs of even a typical Hollywood flick, they don't have as much to recoup. Secondly, CDs do so have a Theatrical run, most artists tour after the release of a new album.
Except for the point that the artists can only be one place at a time. Watching a movie is more like going to a concert hall and listening to a recording.
Theater is more like live music.
One last point: Everyone talks about the cost of physically producing the CD falling over time, what I haven't heard much of is how IT has changed the cost of recording music. How much difference (in real dollars) was the price of recording Born to Run vs The Rising?
Good point. I don't know, but I would guess Bruce is wealthy enough to have his own studio now, I'd guess that he wasn't for BTR
Well, It happened to me and it wasn't even on a high end chip.

I think the story has it wrong. The feature kicks in when cruising on the highway, not at idle (my guess would be the RPMs are too low at idle). Once you're up to speed, it doesn't take that much power to keep going.
The old Caddy system had much less electronics. They needed today's sophisticated engine management systems to really make it work.
Henry Rollins has a funny story about how in Austrailia, he threw a rock off a cliff/*Intense Rollins mode on

And the fisherman sitting on the beach near where the rock landed wasn't too pleased. He then envisioned himself being thrown off the cliff by the Aussie fisherman and his buddies and decided that he's going to be a nice guy, for at least the rest of the tour.
It's on the "Human Butt" spoken word CD
If not, don't be so hard on you fellow Americans. When you hear on the tv about the ratings for American Idol (20 million people tuned in! Well, what about the 260 million Americans that didn't!)
It's shameless, the self promotion of the Entertainment industry. Movie grosses for the weekend are out Sunday night before the theaters have even shown the last shows of the night.
I know that there are plenty of good old fashioned two parent families with parents reading to their kids as they tuck them in at night or going to their little league games (and NOT getting into fights with the other parents).

Not as far as I know, but Isaac Hayes is.
Wouldn't that be MI3, the British Spy agency?
Why not get the Passat TDI, long available in Europe, it's now available in the States (perhaps Canada too.)

I believe the fan went away when the slot loading G3 iMacs came out (Tangerine, Lime etc.)
About the same time Apple reps started pronouncing SCSI (most say scuzzy) "sexy". That's when.
the joke was "what keeps a plane going but hot air" and of course the Congressional record is full of hot air.
Steve Jobs Probably wanted to frame Sir Paul's invoice for his office wall.

Who would be the Sally Field character?
It played in Fargo, is a one hour drive too far?
Railroad Tycoon II was pretty fun.

Hopefully that was sarcasm (on /. Oh, Horrors!)

There is an off button.
It just goes to show that if enough comedians complain about something, the world will change
What, no profit???
