As a Canadian who actually believes in free speech, I am against any kind of censorship or filtering on the internet.
"Hate speech" is a broad term that could apply to many things. I could be deemed a distributor of "hate speech" for saying I am an atheist who thinks all religions are wrong (since I'd offend the followers of some major religions with that statement).
Protecting us from "thought crime" is not democratic.
stern kicks the shit out of most amateur podcasts. You have to remember the guy is connected and has a huge staff, this results in a much more polished production. Also, 5 hours a day 4 days a week is much more than most podcasters produce. Also, unlike most podcasters, he's very funny.
I agree the price is high though. 13$ a month is very close to what they charge for normal satellite reception (which includes free streaming).

Has anyone noticed videos on youtube don't even have sound in stereo? They are all in mono.

As for the lip-syncing and dancing videos, it's free advertising. I bet "numa numa" sold a lot more records since that fat dude posted a video dancing to it, in fact they are using that to market a new version of that song now...
This isn't the first time LGF has busted news sources for phony documents. They were very influential in revealing that the Killian documents were doctored (it was written in the default MS WORD typeface! They didn't have that in the 70's!). That incident ended up getting Dan Rather ousted.
People should remember that the liberal media (reuters) can be just as sleezy as the more right-wing media companies (news corporation).
Untill Ubuntu has good media production apps for music and video it won't tak over Apple's core market of creative professionals. The open-source apps have come a long way but they are still not competition for most sound and video suites (and apple owns two of the best, final cut and logic audio).
However for everything else, ubuntu is serious competition.

My backpack with a 15.4 inch laptop with power supply (in case I need to use the computer for more than 3 hours, for papers) + large 400 page university books weighs 15lbs easily... I lug that around for extended periods. Then again, I am in shape.
Unfortunately, the GPL prevents you from combining free software with closed drivers in a simple way. They have to make it exceedingly difficult or Richard Stallman will leave bags of burning dog doo on the porches of all the Ubuntu programmers.
'Inappropriate' behaviour could mean so many different things.
They could decide discussing pre-marital sex or anti-Bush sentiment to be 'inappropriate', or anything really. Illegal I can understand, but they need a good discription of what 'inappropriate' actually means.
Test number two: try playing the high-definition (1080i) trailers on Apple's website. I'd be absolutely shocked if it manages to do it without dropping frames like crazy. My Macbook Pro barely breaks a sweat.
This is pointless, the screen on the macbook displays at a resolution of 1280 x 800. At this resolution, a 720p HD movie would fill almost the whole screen. 1080i would be pointless since the screen cannot even display a movie that big. If it can play 720p it is golden.
Do American patent laws have any concept of prior use? It seems almost anyone can patent anything these days and sue anyone for any reason. Would it be possible for me to take out a patent on replying to posts and ask everyone who replies to this for royalties ?
I should add that, now that I think about it, who is to say the person who emailed Kororaa wasn't a goon for MS who wanted to halt a really innovative and competitive product? CLearly this isn't an obvious infringement of the GPL.
As we stand now, there are no versions of Linux with XGL that are easy to install, they all require complicated driver installation and x-windows configuration editing. For the untrained user, there is no way to view the splender of XGL except for the Koraraa live cd.
Here is one of the most impressive example of linux in action, the koraraa live cd, which literally blew me away with it's 3d-accelerated UI, being put on hold due to the "open-source spirit".
Maybe if it was easier to install video drivers in linux in the first place that they could be made "reasonably independant of each other". How the hell are you supposed to make a live cd that seperates the video drivers from the rest of the OS ? What's more important to linux, the "open-source spirit" that prevents you from distributing one hell of an impressive Live CD, or a wider adoption of linux due to it's advanced technology (windows won't have a fully 3d accelerated UI untill some time next year, linux beat them to it).

A terabyte is a small amount when you start doing serious video editing... And now that HD is becoming standard, you want as much space as you can get.
Same with sound recording... 1 hour of 24 tracks of 24bit 96khz audio is over 23 gigs.
I'm surprised by the weight, at around 8.5 pounds, it's not as heavy as some other gaming laptops. It's certainly no feather, but it would be easy to take this to a LAN party and what not without killing yourself. It's nice to see that dell didn't add any insanely USELESS features for a laptop, like 2 drives in RAID, which would have made the weight/heat/battery life even worse.

Do you have closed-source binary video drivers? Because most 3d drivers are. And you need 3d drivers to run Google Earth.
Nobody is asking you to use the program, you can always try and make an open-source earth mapped program. Good luck though.

960 x 540 will be more than adequate for private bittorent trackers distributing pirated media.

the thinkpads WERE great, when they were manufactured and supported by IBM (who always made sturdy hardware). Not anymore.
