I don't understand the mentality of alot of people in regards to digital copyright. Personally, I see it as if you don't like digital copyright, don't buy products that use it. The people who make movies and such have the right to sell the product in any way they please, yet people for some reason feel they are 'entitled' to use it any way they want. I see it as if you don't like the copyright scheme's they use, don't buy the product. Obviously most people don't care about the copyright protection as there has been no decline in the purchase of movies, even though they are released on the DVD format which has alot of protection. If people continue to buy movies that use copyright protection scheme's then the companies will continue to use the scheme's.

The article mentioned that they had advertising on their sites (and thus could in theory make money, which the teams wouldn't want) but most sites these days need advertising just to cover bandwidth costs. It's baseball digging it's own grave.

Word is the standard for word processing on windows. If HP doesn't ship it people will be forced to buy it. Wordperfect hasn't had widespread use since 1995, and I doubt people would want to switch back from the MS word standard. Buying a HP box would now be a bad choice for a student, as most schools including mine use word exclusively and students are expected to know how to use it. Bad move HP!

Well in this case the comparison is between two x86 cpu's, the athlon and the pentium4. Both would support standard x86 instructions. If you want to measure how fast the cpu is you would want the program to be unoptimized. Perhaps SSE would be fine since both cpu's support it.

Using optimizations wouldn't be fair unless you had a good idea of the percentage of programs that ARE optimized for one or both cpu's. Many new programs are optimized for both cpu's, such as Cubase SX, a software studio program. I suppose you could use one of those programs as a benchmark in addition to the raw unoptimized open-source one so you can get an idea of how well the cpu performs with or without it's appropriate optimizations. Also, it makes a difference wether there is a free version of the optimized compiler, because if there isn't, there is a higher chance that programs made by individuals at home (who can't afford a 500$ compiler) would not be optimized.
