    I don't see how this makes good business sense, even if there is MONEY to be made. Alienating, well, everyone who ever will and does use the Internet is probably bad for PR.

    In other words, just because you DO have a patent doesn't mean you should always attempt to enforce it.

    I never said the work RMS was doing is bad, I said he's firey and has a tendancy to kneejerk. Demanding a response before investigating Miguel's comments is pompus.

    Sorry, but RMS tends to fly off the handle any time he even gets a whiff of something non GNU. So do we all here it seems. I'm tired of hearing it from the community because it's starting to hold us back.

    Miguel has made many positive arguments for his prior statments. And thanks to the Register for obfuscating the variables.

    I have to face the fact. The Amiga as an all in one platform, is now dead. We were the fringe of the fringe at the time, battling even Mac users for spot as the underdog.

    Amiga as we remember it is dead, and it's not comming back! I've moved on to Mandrake as a desktop.

    I think they should limit it to web ONLY. In local experiments with free and open wireless networks, it was found that the best practice was to allow web only though a transparent proxy, because when there's no network accountability everybody seems to turn in to a script kiddie.

    My thoughts anyway..

    HEY WAIT A MINUTE, perhaps they'll be doing this and gathering marketing data? Could be easily done, and profitable over a 5 year timespan.

    Yeah, that one guy was a jerk. I read that article even before it was posted to /., kthx. MY whole point is that you can't sue everybody, and flying lawsuits doesn't change anything. It's like if you flung dog feces at the mail man every time you got junk mail.

    Why are we in the /. community getting so caught up in lawsuit culture? Are we going to file suit against every idiot that sends us e-mail witout us asking? Since when did this become such an emotional turmoil that we have to take people to court for damages?

    There are always things you won't consider until something's being developed. If you've done something a thousand times, and have the libraries developed then you can probably estimate the time required very accurately. If the request is something completely new to your team, you'll never be able to accurately estimate the time required until analisys (which takes it's own time as well).

    Afterstep. But trust me, NeXT compared to what we have available now is no revolution. Once you use a NeXT station for any ammount of time the curiosity will ware off :)

    People can be so short sighted. Only one of the many reasons kids end up in arcades in the first place is lack of good public parks and facilities, and here's a large urban center spending money trying to keep kids doing nothing, rather than spending on creation of more places for these kids to go!

    I think we're going to see wearables as clunky nuisances in 10 to 15 years. I already do. I've got a pager, a cell, a palm, a notebook, and I'd have more if I could.

    I've used many a multimedia tool under Linux and granted some of them are Ok, but the POLISH that would be applied to a Quicktime implementation would be appretiated.

    I think multimedia under Linux has a long way to come and will be one of the clenchers of Joe Average's continuing adoption.

    In other words; make it easy to view the pr0n, and they will come runnin'.

    Someone will just write something that in theory WILL detect Magic Lantern. We just have to wait for it. Who in the geek community would really sit back and WAIT for a virus software company to come up with a solution like that.

    Anyway, I don't use Windows, so this is not my problem. Ask yourself; is it really yours? :-)

    I'm going to admit something here. I've always had a soft spot for Microsoft games and thier re-branded hardware... Now I'm slowly swaying away from the PS-2 towards the X-Box. Some of the games look truly cool (of course, no GTA3 yet).

    Free software is FREE. If you want to make a profit, charge for services... If you're not charging for services and you're helping the helpless, that's called charity.

    You can't re-animate Bruce Lee, period. You can try in video games, you can try with CG, but you'll never get the essence. What hollywood should be doing is trying to find someone with the same charisma he had. Also, I think we're overlooking the Martial Arts stars we've already got on the market. Jackie Chan and the ever wired up Jet Li to name a few good ones.
