    Guantanamo exists because our soldiers were prevented from correctly disposing of the enemy in the field.

    Usually the Fremen children and the old, take care to reclaim the water of wounded enemies on the battlefield. If the military conducted more warfare like a family event, these loose ends would have been taken care of.

    Or you could step away from your fantasy world long enough to realize that we don't conduct warfare in the manner of the Japanese in WW2.

    There doesn't have to be an proof. The proof lies solely on the side of the people trying to justify torturing people. I don't see anyone proving that the TSA has stopped any terrorist attacks and yet we are spending billions of dollars and millions of wasted hours at airlines.

    Why the arbitrary condition? I'll continue X until everyone wears red on thursdays. The fact that people make their doors obvious shows that they aren't relying on obscurity to secure their house.

    How does damage to a vendor's image hurt them other than from a profitability standpoint?

    It's typical in the business world to only offer exclusivity for something, if the person will pay a lot more for something. If they don't want to pay for exclusivity then they get the cheaper offer available to everyone.

    Even better, you should increase or decrease the expiry date based on past history/reputation of the company: response time, severity of bug, number of vulnerabilities. If the company is Donald Knuth, i guess you could start with a default expiry date of 10 years.

    See if companies respond classical conditioning. The "bad" companies would eventually get 0-day notification anyway.

    It sounds like plain old extortion. Notice he does not say he provided the vendor with the vulnerability info, just that he contacted the vendor. Calling a vendor and saying 'you have a vulnerability, pay me x and I will tell you what it is, don't pay and I'll tell everyone else' is not 'being responsible', it is extortion.

    How is that extortion? That's extortion in the same way that selling an idea to someone or their competitors is extortion. Buy my idea that gives 200 MPG or i'll sell it or give it away for free to X.

    People running the software pull it out of production until there is a fix? Or they mitigate the problem the day the world learns of the exploit?

    It's pretty obvious to me that if you're paying a premium for showing your product at that show, you don't want 2 bit operations setting up in the hotel rooms above you trying to swindle your viewers up to their private quarters.

    The suite only vendors are not only not paying CES for their services, they are reducing the amount of face time for the vendors who are paying for those services. If they make a sale - it really is potentially at the cost of someone else who paid to show at the conference.

    Isn't this true of all capitalism? Isn't that the point of competition? If i make my home really nice and home values go up in my neighborhood, i don't get to charge other people on my street for their increased value.

    Are you telling me CES is going to start going after hookers next because they aren't paying CES for their services?
