So? If someone wants to interrupt what I choose to do with my time, why shouldn't they have to jump through a hoop or two?
If I really wanted to talk to them they would already be whitelisted. What do I care if it annoys them?
Most folks I deal with have learned the best way to get a hold of me is to send me an email, if we need to have a conversation we can arrange it that way.
As things stand now, I do not answer calls from unknown numbers, calls with blocked caller ID, or calls listed as "out of area", this device/service might be better for me as real people could get through if they needed me.
Good Morning Sir/Madam/Supreme Leader/It/wtf are you,
I am a managing partner in the Earth Population Benefit Fund and I am contacting you to propose a mutually beneficial transaction.
Due to circumstances beyond my control the earth has vast quantities of gold, copper, and other precious metals which we need to transport offworld due to a frightening warming of our planet.
If you would help me to transfer this material offworld, you would be paid a commission of 25%. Please forward your Intergalactic Commerce Bank Account numbers and access codes so that I may begin this transaction.....
Could be, like I said, it wasn't really my problem, just a friend in the office had his performance damaged so I went to look to make sure he was making a realistic complaint, and he was.
Once I did that, the problem got passed off to corporate, and I went back to working myself out of a job migrating email and WAN.
Bullshit. At my former place of employment, we had several mechanical engineers that did lots of CAD, among other things. After we were acquired by a large company, they mandated that all portable machines have full disk encryption.
The laptops these engineers used to work while traveling performed wonderfully prior to the encryption, and after the encryption they were painfully slow while running the CAD software.
I know users exaggerate, so I went and witnessed it for myself, it was painful. I do not recall what software/configurations were used, as at that point it wasn't my problem, and I really had my hands full integrating email and WAN.
Bottom line is that there is a loss of performance, sure it may only be relevant to the most intensive applications, but those applications are what makes the company money, so causing an engineer to waste more time could really hurt.
Are you suggesting that 5000 people send a smaller file to every other person in the 5000 everyday? Or are you suggesting something different.
Please explain! IF my first understanding is correct, there is no difference between recieving 500 100 mb files and recieving 5000 10 mb files. After the multiplication the size of the data that you recieve is the same in both cases.
As a raised protestant(creation as a parable) who has since become a pinball between agnostic and athiest, I know about the different types of Christian faith and the relative numbers of various sects.
I believe that the rights of fundamentalist protestants and catholics to believe as they wish should be respected, however, I am deeply offended that they are pandered to by politicians because they scream so loudly.
Should I so desire, I believe it is my right to scream every bit as loudly, about how ignorant, intolerant, and quite frankly un-Christian MANY(not saying most) of the fundamentalists are.
I am interested in the idea of not allowing certain fundamentalists access to technology. My problem would go away in short order, if the fundies who are ID fanatics, or anti evolution could be denied the benefits which have arisen from the science they struggle against.
Here is a spear, and a flint and a bit of steel, go forth make a living for yourself.
OK, argument is long over, and I am replying days later.
Being considered as a part of a whole, in relation to other votes, is the ENTIRE POINT of voting. Yes, an individual vote is just a scrap of paper or a bunch of electrons or what have you, without the context of an election, but since the whole point of an election is to collect and count the votes to determine an outcome, every single one matters.
There are AT LEAST two times when those votes matter outside the context of the others, though I have a hard time partitioning these cases from the rest of the election.
1. When the voter is in the booth. As the voter has taken extra-ordinary action in order to be in that booth at that time in order to vote. It matters then.
2. In the case of a hand recount(or other hand counting) it matters quite a lot, as you have 10(I'm pulling numbers out my rear) or more people in a room deliberating over each vote. Florida for example had an large number of people from around the nation/world watching, hanging on each and every chad.
I have seen windows machines doing this for years. I haven't been able to figure out whether they were trying to fight or flee though when you get a bluescreen on shutdown.
Actually, there is such a thing as a "Citizen's Arrest". Valid everywhere in the US except North Carolina from what I can tell. Citizens can detain people whom they have witnessed commiting a felony and certain other acts.
Of course, IANAL.
The US is not a Democracy. The US is a Democratic Republic, hence the electoral college weirdness. The idea being that some control needed to be added to mob rule, so elections didn't end up as two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner.
Not saying this is the right way to do it...

Please hold, I have to open a ticket to escalate this case. Do you have a pen? Hello, Hello?....

Maybe not. It is not like Hans Reiser was tried by a jury of people who wrote advanced file systems, or a jury of homicidal maniacs, take your pick.

He is going to be busy for a while, what with his licensing problems.
You'd be better off calling Bob the plumber, from down the street.
Will Safeway Grade A Jumbo eggs work, or do I need a special kind?

All of that is assuming no one thinks to close the fucking blast doors.

I am being a bit ridiculous I know.
Oh Really? Apparently google was anticipating your post,

OR, maybe the world bank just bought some "cisco" security devices. You know, the ones made in china?

Go ask 300 folks in Florida whether their individual vote mattered in 2000 or not.
Just be thankful that all numbers aren't irrational. Then we would really be in a fix.

You seem to be confused. Everyone is talking about the Iraq war, which had nothing to do with 9/11. If it was Afghanistan, different story then.
I don't keep spam in my fridge or pantry now, why would I want the store to put it there?
Thats right, blame it all on the BSD network stack. See, all the problems with windows are due to open source, its eviiiilllll!!!!!1!1!1!!!1!
Lets see them try this in the desert.
