Don't count on it. Credit Unions often outsource a lot of their operations to third-party groups to save on costs. Of course, the way the laws work, one doesn't often have to tell the customer that they are dealing with a third party.

I used to work for a collection agency that specifically did third-party collections for credit unions across the country. We just had an 800 number for each credit union, and we'd answer with the name of the CU depending on which line rang. Same with sending out letters- just change the letterhead accordingly.

If your CU is dealing with the kind of numbskulls I worked with, your data is probably just as insecure if not moreso than if it were with a big bank.

I've been using Washington Mutual for about a year now, and haven't been nickled-and-dimed on anything, and have been really happy with their service. Of course, I'm sure someone will now reply with their WaMu horror story...

It's a strange idea, isn't it? Given current technological trends, it seems likely that we may someday have direct computer input to the brain, and vice-versa. So, someday, it should be possible to allow real-time information sharing. You and I could both see what the other is seeing, hear what the other is hearing, feel what the other is feeling, etc. In some respects we would have become one organism with four eyes, ears, hands, etc.

the interesting thought this leads me to is this- if we began this sensory data sharing at birth, having both experienced the same things, would it be possible for us to have differing worldviews? to have a disagreement? does what we think and do in any given situation depend entirely on our prior experience? if we all shared eachother's experiences, would we then have world peace?

hmmm, well, i'd better get back to work... :)

What. Ever. - Do you realize how much money one could make if one had the cure for cancer? Everyone is pretty much guaranteed to get cancer if something else doesn't get them first, so everyone will need the cure. They will probably need it multiple times, since there likely won't be a generic "cancer vaccine" or whatever but separate cures for different types of cancers. Cancer cures will be worth TONS. I have an iPaq h6315 that I use all the time, and I don't think I'd find a Palm all that handy (I know, terrible pun). I think the PocketPC's more powerful processors make them a lot more useful- as you mentioned, they can be used for music and movies, but I also use mine for games (I'm addicted to snood), for checking the bus schedules (I've got the PDF's saved on my phone. They're not really very PDA-friendly, but they certainly suffice and are frequently useful), I keep mine synched with Money on my PC (which is great since I'm terrible about keeping a checkbook register), and I surf the web (and not just the limited stuff you get thru a cell phone) and check my e-mail with it as well.

Sure, some of those things I could do with a laptop, but a laptop has a shorter battery life, won't connect to GPRS by itself, doesn't fit in my pocket and I wouldn't want to carry one around all the time.
