Quite simple really. As long as they can trap you due to lack of alternatives, they will. Once there are *viable* alternatives, then they wont do it any longer.
That aside, i do see many non-contract smartphones out there.. but they do cost you upfront, which is beyond many people's budget in this current economy. So i really dont see the point of the question anyway.
Nothing restricts a locality/city/region from banning the things of their own initiative
I disagree, states should be forced to follow the federal Constitution as part of the 'contract' to be part of the union. They can of course make their own rules, but those should not be allowed to conflict with the 'base' rules at the federal level as outlined by the Constitution. The court seems to agree, at the moment.
If a state was allowed to do this, then the entire structure of our country would be at risk, and be pointless to even be a 'union'.
Just in time for XP to go out of support for most people, now you get this 'well publicized' bug that wont get patched, in effect. I expect only the latest version of IE to be patched, which will NOT run on XP even if you wanted to.
Being serious here, are there legit copies that exist out in the real world or is this it? If there are others, leave these in the ground. They will be rotted beyond belief at this point. There is really nothing to be gained in that case.
I'm all for digging up the 'only copy in existence' to stick in a museum, but i dont think that is what is going on here.
They cant realistically kill the line ( "you cant stop the signal" ), but if you disable every access device known to man it would have the same effect... Killing every phone ( and soon tablets ) in one swoop would go a long way towards that goal.
This also gets around adhoc and private mesh networks that the feds have no real access to control.

Tried, true, reliable, inexpensive. We dont need to add unreliable complexity just because liberal pea brains are afraid of something..

How about you crawl back under the rock you live under?
The people are also hypocrites, it works both ways.
While it may happen, i wouldn't blindly assume that. They want people off 2003 as well.
And some enterprise apps will choke on them, leaving your suggestion useless.
And once you get out of school, get a job, and move out of your mothers place, you will understand now the world actually works.
Until then, you only make yourself look stupid with those juvenile and clueless statements. Leave things to us adults.
And when your purchased app *requires* it.. ?

the details of a standard public interface.
Still, is a company *required* to give those details away? Its mine, i should be able to restrict its access if i want to.
Yes it was ( is ) over hyped, but it really wasn't THAT bad..

If they do their damned job this wont be an issue. If they think 'letting it burn' is a good plan, the entire lot of them should be fired.
I had been hoping there was a definite end that science could not trick.
Then go jump off a bridge. TODAY.
Some people do not want some 'hard limit' on our lifespan, so you can take your fatalism and shove it.
The fed does have some requirements, such as passing a budget, etc.
But more to the point, this should have NEVER been an issue in the first place. Restricting how one can sell their products is just ludicrous.
Sure an end user only sees that part, but something like KDE is far more than that and there is a whole lot of stuff going on underneath.
At some point you are simply drowning in wheels, and cant move.
Its not hard in real life, and you have a better chance of not getting caught buying it.
There is passable ( and suspect ) media, but not 'good'

What good media exists at all.
I say none.
He has no business being on the bench. A big F-You goes out to the bastard.
I was joking.
For many just the act of talking while driving is a distraction.
