In this scenario the PC in question has no attachment to the 'net', and used only for specific applications that were purchased and installed from the original media from seemingly reputable sources like Adobe or Autodesk, or even Microsoft ( office for example.. ). Not all companies allow all PC's to access the outside world, for various reasons.
So with the above example, why should i care about 'security', and why should i be **forced** to upgrade because of it ? A simple warning would suffice.
( yes, i realize the story was specially about things like antivirus with SP1, but vista also killed 'real' apps along the way for the sake of 'security' so it all is tied together )
They sound like a perfect candidate for publishing on Freenet. Then the single point of failure is pretty much eliminated.
Then for people that don't run Freenet, some sort of 'public portal' would be needed. Sure, those portals could be shut down, but at least it wouldn't kill the project while waiting on more portals to appear.
In a perfect world, yes 'the state' would be 'the people'. However, we don't live in a perfect world by any stretch of the imagination. Any form of government by its very nature degenerates, regardless of its so called 'implementation'.
Im part of the group that prefers the older keyboards ( the 3270 keyboard was wonderful ) but it all depends on the type of resistance, and how much there is. You can always have too much of a good thing.
Stating something forcefully as a fact does not make it a fact. Agreed, but in this case it IS a fact. Go look up the definition of theft. It is not the same as IP infringement.
Again, im not debating if IP infringement is right or wrong as that is a totally different discussion, the only point im making here is that its NOT theft. The continued labeling of it as theft is dishonest marketing.
Copyright violation is not theft. Period, and end of story. There is no semantical issue here, its simply not true.
Now, that said it may ( or may not ) be a civil offense, and even may become a criminal offense if the IP industry gets it way, but its not by definition theft nor will it ever be.
Booth was willing to give his life for his country. That makes him a patriot. Wont debate if he was right or wrong in his actions as that isnt my intent. The intent is to make people think, which you have done.
And back on topic i wasn't speaking just of Mr Gates, a lot of the 'big players' that made it out of the 80's either had help, ( like rich parents) or really good luck ( location, location, location ). ( actually, that goes for most people that have made it big, they often build on the success of the family before them. if they had to start from scratch like the rest of us, they would still be like the rest of us.. )
While thousands more still toil away unnoticed, beacuse they are honest and didnt get to lean on mommies and daddies money when they first started out.
1 - RFID tag every human on earth. ( to allow tracking and scanning ) 2 - All passengers must remove all clothes before debarking their vehicles. ( to avoid having to search )
But if they don't want to join the 21st century? Who gives you the right force it dow their throat?
They are a sovereign nation, they should be allowed to be stuck in the dark ages if they want.
Swirl around your head to pan? WTF??
Anyone else think we have gone way overboard here and need to return to a much simpler time?
Except i don't think we are anywhere near that point, as today we are still at the 'pretty much insecure' point.
...
The banks can at least try
Did they ever really stop?
Umm if the program worked before SP1, but afterwards either doesn't work or blue screens the PC, then yes it was SP1's fault.

Freenet.
its time to take ALL content underground, since what you today may be banned tomorrow.
If i warns me, thats cool, but if it totally blocks me from running what i purchased. They can take a flying leap.

Free-market is not without its troubles, but its still a far better solution then letting the 'state' run things.
Opening all packages... don't give them any ideas or you will have that next.
If you aren't paying for it. ( yes that was sarcasm ).
Besides, comcast will just throttle it anyway.

My ass.
Remember too that this country started without a standing army.. So i agree its easier said then done.
Like handguns? Give me a break, in this country ( except for states that refuse to honor the constitution ) handguns are legal.
Actually, its rather offensive.

From myself.
Stupid nanny state. Grr
Or a hint of desperation?
The supreme court has.
