    A lesser problem, but still a problem is when you talk about a person that has changed sexes, either by dress or surgery, and it still shows them as the 'other' at the federal level.

    Walk in as a female to an interview and get the offer pending a 'background check', but your records says you are male, not only wont you get the job, but you may get a visit by the FBI thinking you have stolen someone's ID.

    Even marriage and a simple last name change can stick it to you if you don't have all your records in sync.

    If you live in a state where they verify your SSN to make sure you aren't illegal, it wouldn't match up properly and you would lose the offer with zero recourse.

    Not saying verification is wrong, but there needs to be some leeway for 'mistakes' like this.

    This attitude is why even tho our computers are 1000x faster then we had 20 years ago, they actually perform worse overall.

    I totally agree, sending it back was stupid. Microsoft shouldn't have been liable for any 'additional value' add-ons. Most of the time you just get a replacement stock box out of the refurb stack, and they send yours off for repair to add to the stack ( or the trash heap ) and never even look at it when its still attached to your name.

    its one thing to run a business and want to do the best you can, but its another to operate under the premise of extinguishing everything in sight as your primary goal.

    Dont need a network balck box, they can just install monitors on the actual device you are using, and you must have it connect to the router to gain access. Sort of like how netzero used to be ( still is ? ).

    They also could mandate that your PC is part of their NT domain, and they just start blocking any application that isnt 'acceptable' to their new policy, just like in the big corporate world. Oh, and you wont be allowed to install software either.

    Don't like it? Dont want to give them root access to your windows box? ( other OS's be allowed to connect.. ) Then don't use their network, or just go find a school that hasnt lost their mind.

    That is an easy answer really.

    The linux market isn't large enough to warrant the allocation of resources. Once it becomes large enough, you will have your photoshop.

    Ummmm, no. What he means is that they want to form a new network that can routinely be filtered, scanned and probed with no means of anonymity (already going away) or flexibility. Why would we want to be anonymous? Are you hiding something? Why don't you trust your government to provide you with acceptable content? Are you a terrorist or something?

    To be honest, i have never tried the package CDs. I either do it via the net if im in a hurry so i get the most current version, or via ports if im not in a rush ( ports are the preferred way anyway ).

    The only exception is if im building a base server, i have my favorite set of packages that i keep on a separate cd and install them after a minimal install.

    Not all states even have a tax on 'property'. And there is no federal tax on property that i know of.

    Telnet was ( is? ) bundled as a service, and its standard. Just not secure enough to use these days. Replacing that with SSH would be nice.

    ( ya, i know there are 3rd party SSHD's but that isnt the point )
