Integrate with cloud services that are not ran by an advertising company whose entire existence revolves around monetizing your personal information?
Provide a secure mobile platform?
Give me a consistent, easy to use, lag free user interface?
Provide software updates to improve my device for many years?
Integrate securely and conveniently my mac laptop?
Give me a break. The OP was worthless troll and the reply was simple and reasonable. You can assemble all the hay you like about individual models and what country uses what. Can't believe you took the time to write that.
Did you even pause while spewing that out and wonder, why am i writing this?
- Apple has always had great screens(usually industry leading in metrics that matter). This is a good thing.
- face ID looked ok in the demo's
- new portrait mode is higher quality with more options thanks to the depth sensing tech
- new processor is apparently faster while getting longer battery life (2 hours according to apple)
I think you want this phone! Just squeeze in 2-3 more johns each night and you can afford it.
This was my first though as well. My old man has trouble with the most basic phone functionality so the home button is a pretty important universal action.
Apples version doesn't go right around the edges like the samsung phones. People are saying that's a negative but I actually don't like that curved display on the edge, it looks like the image warps as it goes over the edge. Would annoy me endlessly in practice.
But yeah i often wondered if the accidental input thing would be an issue. Apple appears to have the palm rejection (accidental input) thing pretty down on the iPad, so I'd guess it will be ok. They pay a lot of attention to that kind of thing.
If you're curious they talk about it at length in the keynote : It actually projects a bunch of dots on your face then measures the distances between them and creates a vector model that is stored as numbers only. Like the guy said, no photos taken or stored.
Holy smoke. Re-read what you have just posted. I just don't know where to start. You have misquoted me, added a whole lot more logical fallacies and still can't seem to admit that you were completely wrong in a very straight forward way.
In your points 1& 2 you've just invented shit i haven't said. I didn't mention "you're holding wrong", I didn't make any arguments about the merits of the "Pro" label on the macbook. Niether of those things have anything to do with what we were discussing. The test that Apple does to estimate battery life is written clearly in their website. Like all companies that sell their shit with a battery estimate they do so with a crap load of disclaimers. There are plenty of things pro users could do to annihilate their battery life and none of them have anything to do with what we were discussing.
The issue was in the construction of your conclusion, not the conclusion itself, which I made clear. "Yes their was apparently a bug in the developer tools that disable caching of websites but you *including that* in your conclusion was a strawman" For the 3rd time the bug in the developer tools is the cause of Consumer Reports problems up but has no bearing on Apples battery estimates which are based on a system with "all settings left at default"
So Apple having unremovable batteries is "pertinent to illustrating the magnitude of the problem CR encountered" Pertinent? It has unequivocally nothing to with the variability in the CR tests. It has nothing to do with what we were discussing (how wrong you were to blame apple for the inconsistent battery life) and it doesn't take a debate genius to see this.
Were Apples battery life estimates wrong? No. Was Consumer Reports correct with their estimates? No. Open and closed.
For a guy that was pretty ranty about debate logic earlier you score a big fail from me.
Oh REALLY. This is the internet and you can't hide from stupid comments. Your quote "That's all well and good, but either way it's still Apple's fault. Not that their fans will care." is factually incorrect. The issue in question was whether Apples estimates on battery life were wrong. They weren't, consumer reports enabled hidden developer features so were not testing the battery in the way Apple does or in the way a regular user would experience. So Apple's estimates were correct, the battery is fine in the context of estimates under normal use and you were wrong. Yes their was apparently a bug in the developer tools that disable caching of websites but you including that in your conclusion was a strawman, completely irrelevant to the issue being debated.
"how the hell is that a "flaw in the testing methodology" you ask frothily? That seems obvious now.
The other strawmen you built regarding removable batteries was unrelated and lacking in merit. My favorite part where you are %100 incorrect (again) is where you assert that their 'fans' won't care either. Do we need to debate how ridiculous that kind of absolute statement is?
I'm a very rare slashdot commenter. This comment was horrible so I just had to get in here and let you know:) Just admit you were wrong guy. And the rest of your righteous spiel comes off equally as bad.
I don't see one comment here that takes a positive view on this story. Is it really surprising? A company with a fruitful focus on design, customer satisfaction and privacy and appears to continue being pretty successful.
I'm usually impressed that Apple managed to demonstrated the race to the bottom with a cheapest at all costs approach wasn't the only way to succeed in consumer electronics. Google Microsoft and Samsung have been forced to follow and everyone wins. Who cares what happens over the next 10 years. Right now we have an awesome array of gadgets with healthy competing ecosystems to choose from.
You could have just said yes and moved on. There are plenty of benefits that come with making things sleeker (and less upgradable.) but you ignore them all and went right ahead and exaggerating the issues it creates. Lets make a list:
"More prone to failure" The opposite is actually true.
"engineered to be more frustrating" for you? Many people (normal consumers) find the simplicity appealing.
"Apple stuff is purposefully engineers their technology to be prone to failure" This is nonsensical. And rubbish.
"tons of cases of ventilation issues" Rubbish. Sure if you want to overclock or do anything drastically different it may be true.
"I don't know why people continue to buy their stuff" One of the few things you've said i can fully endorse.
"a lot cheaper, perform better, be infinitely more upgradable, and can be modified to suit your personal demands" Yep. So buy a cheap PC box. I usually do but there is merit to Apples approach to integrating the OS and hardware and making it very reliable.
I've browsed Apple maps extensively in Australia and while the results are not perfect, it's close enough to be an excellent mapping service. Just to be clear it's not as good as Google Maps but is that unexpected?. I have spotted 4-5 errors in total and yes one of them was a town name in the wrong location. These issues did not cause me any problems because i was instinctively aware that Mildura is not in the middle of a salt lake.
The exaggeration of the problems is lame. I'm not defending Apple, but the mapping service is actually pretty good.
Really? That's a fairly elitist and condescending. I'm ok with Apple popularising the need for higher resolution screens for the masses. I bet there are tonnes of things you use everyday and haven't bothered to understand... For example, can you explain to me the function of a cam shaft? How is it fabricated and to what tolerances? Don't know without googling it? You use one every time you drive a car, Ignoramus!:)
Facebook has had 3d characters that animate in sync with your face in real time? I hadn't heard about this

Apple would be the only company i would even consider trusting with face unlock... And yeah as far as i could gather it's using the Qi Standard.

Be careful with this kind of insightful post. Not always welcome here.
You have to accept by pushing a button on the side of the phone.
He says, replying to two completely pointless Apple hater posts.
yeah i was also very surprised by that. Shows a level of confidence i guess. Very enjoyably to watch the presenter freak out for a second.

Storage inside the box is so 2012. External arrays via thunderbolt is the way to go.
Nothing says hater like whining about a rumored feature on an Apple product before seeing it or trying it. Classy
lol? I'm using a MacPro laptop with a USB port, SD-card slot and a magsafe connecter that does the job... Which one are you using?
Is this a serious comment or just downing some hateorade? Apple seem to support their hardware for a reasonable amount of time in my experience.

Please, for the love of slashdot, don't vote up this kind of retard comment.
You'd want to be right making a comment like that. But you are incorrect.
