Are you over clocking that 486? I have an AMD 486DX4-120 in the basement that I thought was the fastest massproduced chip... Admitidably I didn't research this and I bought the pc for $10 a GoodWill but I am currious.
As long as I can play my ps1/ps2 games on my ps3 I will be happy.
If only Nintendo would add a port for NES carts... I could finally mothball my old system.

I bought a 80GB drive from Frys. Ximeta has stated that they will have linux drivers for what is apperantly a NBD.
I would love to find drivers that allowed me to communicate with this disk from a gentoo pc that does not require a windows intermetiary.

For games I have my ps2, and my fastest box is this laptop a P4-2000m so I have been I thinking about what I should do for a workstation.
Assuming neither KDE, GNOME, or someother desktop become as freindly as OS X, my next computer will be an apple.

I generally think of a black box as something I do not have access to... How can you design such a system and be unknowledgeable about it's workings?

K12LTSP is a great distro built for what you are talking about... At least some of the packages they include should be internationalizable.
