I've also noticed a few that appear to be 4:3 stretched out to 16:9. Nothing like that to drive home the point that you're watching television commercials.
And why do they assume that I care what NBC is showing next season? Or what Shakira's 'live' album is going to be like?
Seriously, iRiver has about as much US market penetration as Apple has market penetration in the Sahara Desert.
I'd disagree with this - I have seen them in stores, including (IIRC) Best Buy. (I know I've seen them at Fry's and Micro Center, but I could see not allowing them as major chains when compared to the Best Buy juggernaut.
That said, I still agree with you overall -.ogg is still an afterthought. Companies might add it in, but only after they've done what they originally set out to do to make money..ogg won't help on that count.
Nothing important will ever play OGG Vorbis. Ever.
I wouldn't go that far. iRiver's begun to include.ogg support in their players, and I'd give the iRiver lines 'important' status in the player market right now.
But.ogg will always be an extra in players, not a basic draw. When people point out that it's not cost-effective to work on shoehorning it into a limited memory space, they're largely correct.
I do wish that we could see some MP3/CD players handle the Fairplay-AAC combination, but I have NO idea how that would work...
Why has no cell phone company licensed the Star Trek communicator design? I could buy the phone they made for the Matrix, for Forbin's sake, but I can't buy a little communicator that looks like a propper TOS communicator and makes the chirpbuzz sound when it opens.
Some company will make a mint when they finally get around to releasing that one...
mmmmmmm Free beer..... GULP GULP GULP.. mmm MORE free beer GULP GULP GULP... (footstep) (footstep) (footstep) "HEY! stop blocking the bathroom door man, i gotta pee... What do you mean its $25 to use the bathroom!!! This is an OUTRAGE!!!"
There are ALWAYS ways to make someone sorely regret dictating petty restrictions on excretion.
Also, as buddies in production have pointed out, Disney was pretty cavalier about some of the details of the agreement - "The Pixar logo must appear in the following manner when used in conjunction with the Disney logo, and the Disney logo must appear in the following manner when being used to promote a Pixar joint production..." - that sort of thing, among others. Disney essentially disregarded most of those details, even when outsiders (like people working on CD-ROM tie-in products) knew better.
Not surprised that Pixar got tired of sharing with people willing to explicitly break agreement with them.
Either your state or the federal Department of Labor. They'd like to hear about that.
That said, yeah, a retail workers union (in general) would be a good thing. (While I'm also a bookseller, I don't want to shaft the guy who's at Wherehouse Music getting screwed either.)
There was talk of the cabal that ran the NanCon sessions of WEG releasing a NanCon collection. Sadly, that died out, and we ended up with Crash Course Manual and its ilk. I still have fond memories of the awards ceremonies at the end of the con when the Paranoia GMs would come in singing the Alpha Complex Fight Song, disrupting EVERYTHING ELSE. Totally rocked...
The keyboard IS a hub. Don't try and plug something like a CD-R in on it, or it'll start complaining.
Like the other guy said, USB was meant to be a bus where you could place hubs as you wished, so you didn't need huge numbers of ports on the machine itself. Computer manufacturers don't seem to have grasped that concept.
If I want to plug in my cheapo digital camera or MP3 player, I'd rather have an easy-to-reach hub that's where I placed it than have to go to one of the "easy-to-access front ports" on my machine that's stashed under the desk.
Now, getting the food to them, thats where the feeding gets difficult. If we could figure out how to make sure people got the food they needed, we could end world hunger damn quick.
Exactly - we're good at production. We SUCK at logistics.
Even if these 2 million are forced to prostitute just to make ends meet, at least they'd be providing a valuable service.
Um, would YOU wanna have sex with a telemarketer?
I thought not.
For all but the most popular bands and songwriters, these royalty payments don't amount to much, but even a "one hit wonder" might see a jackpot if their song hits the Top 40 or ends up in a movie or a television commercial.
The canonical/apocryphal royalty success story is that of Paul Anka, who wrote the theme for Johnny Carson's Tonight Show, and earned over $700 each week from performance royalties simply by having that tune played on every NBC affiliate in the country five nights each week.
The other example is Nick Lowe.
"(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding" has been earning him some money for years because of the Elvis Costello cover. Then it's covered by Curtis Steigers for The Bodyguard soundtrack. Sales of that specific disc have actually made Nick a millionaire.
No, you can't find a DreamTrybe disc in stores right now. Maybe once their first disc's released, it'll be easier to find. Same problem with Six Mile Bridge - although I can find a Maggie Drennon disc MUCH easier. (I'll give you Ceili's Muse - I believe all their work's out of print. But "it's no longer made" is a different form of scarcity than "it doesn't exist yet".)
FWIW, I have found Velvet Hammer discs at Wherehouse Music before.
I only read them for the articles.
And why do they assume that I care what NBC is showing next season? Or what Shakira's 'live' album is going to be like?
You say this as though there's something wrong with it.
Who needs a plot when you have decontamination scenes?

Nice going.

It runs quite comfortably on a 400Mhz G3 iMac, too. As much as I'd like to upgrade soon, I figure this machine has several years left in it...

What if they standardized on one song for these measurements?
...
"Our player is HUGE! It can hold 50,000 copies of ELP's 'Tarkus'!"
On second thought, just give us the disc size.
Okay, so the keyboard is effectively a hub,

Gods, I can't believe I'm replying to this.
If you don't like the product, here's something new you might try...
Don't buy it.
(Myself, I'm looking forward to a potential companion to my Riovolt sp250.)
Geeze, I am a sorry sack - I see this and think "Yeah, that's a cool gag. I'd buy those."
I have no sales resistance.
A. O. L.
If they start using these, people won't be QUITE as angry at them as they used to be...
