You called Qwest didn't you...sounds like someone from one of our Call Centers...
If you ever have to call qwest, immediately ask to talk to Tier 1.5 and don't let them talk you out of it or tell you they don't exist...
Linux Experience- Tier 1(the main people)-2% (at most) Tier 1.5-probably 50%
Competience Tier 1-40% Tier 1.5-95% (Ben is the best over there)
........
To answer the question, though, Qwest only Supports IE 5.x, Netscape 4.x, Win>=95, Mac OS >=8 != X.

I have heard horror stories and taken calls where the customer has had techs worst than the customer...
Caller-"I don't seem to have hyperterminal" Tech-"I am sorry sir, you will have to reinstall Windows"
!
This was in the case notes for a caller...
" OS:Windows Lynux.... ISSUE:told caller that I would not support him TROUBLESHOOTING:told caller that I would not support him RESOLUTION:told caller that I would not support him
" ! ...and more case notes...
" ... EMAIL:Eudora ISSUE:caller wants pop servers TROUBLESHOOTING:told him that we would not give them to him because we don't support Eudora .... "
!
I loved it when I was listening to calls during training and I heard a tech say..."What is Linux". The problem is, is that many of the techs at our place are either >50 yrs old or ex-cons on work release. Many only come to get the training. The first week of training is horrible, the first lesson was on how to double click.
You aren't the only linux user to do that. I had a guy that claims he was using windows 95...
Me-"Ok, what do you see in that control panel" Caller-"Umm...I don't know" Me-"Just read it off" Caller-"Ok, I am using Linux, I know you don't support it, so I guess I will had to get windows on here" Me-"JNo, Its OK, you should have told me..."
If anyone wants, I will throw up a webpage with complete case notes of junk like this...just email me.
FYI...I will support any OS, I have even had FreeBSD.
I thought that the FX worked in really nicely. The seven-up guy's role was pretty well played (especially when he gave a summary of The Time Machine when the lead character asked about Practial Time Travel, lol), the sequence where the moon shattered was really nice, and the scenes where the machine moved through time where very cool.
I do agree, though, with this:
"the Morlocks could slip easily into Lord of the Rings"
When I saw that, I told my friend "how did they come over from LotR"
It was well worth the crappy $8 charge for movies now a-days
..I came on/. to look up legislation for a paper on Internet Censorship, and ended up buying a laptop on eBay...and just when I was trying to quit eBay, thanks guys =/.
There is a product out there called 'Game Downloader' which does the same thing. While I have heard that this thing seriously SUCKS, its the same thing. I comes with miminal copyright protection that can be circumvented by erasing the GB Image with an editor. It also has 94k which means that it'll only hold a single GB rom.But look at all the Roms it will hold here.
This thing is more widespread and older! I went down to a local Software, Etc and Target and saw them! Why hasn't NOA went at it?
NOA has become a bully, and I won't stand for it. Next one I see on eBay, I will buy!!! Even better, directly give the money to the company by purchasing it through them! The poster should get them out his stores through eBay (much quicker + would NOA be able to make you break the legal contract between buyer and seller off ebay?)
How can FIRST need more money? It cost our team $5,000 to enter in that competition and to get our kit. It seems that in that kit was about 1 grand of DONATED software, 2 grand worth electronics, and maybe a grand worth of motors. They don't even pay for the trip to the competition!
One of the guys from the 2600 radio program has the right idea.
Basically, any computer document is vulnerable to reproduction. Anyone can 'PRT SCRN' or copy and paste. Anyone can retype the document in word.
"...Many of these services can also restrict what recipients do with messages -- such as bar them from forwarding, copying or printing e-mail..."
This is the closest to the best I have seen so far. However, things don't have to be eletronic copies either, someone can always take a photograph of the screen or pick it up on video survelliance.
Encryption does not work, PGP is breakable and anything new is bound to be broken by someone. Add to that the fact that such lovely technologies as Canivorie and Magic Lantern as government controlled and funded.
"...one point in the not-too-distant past, our server was an open relay. I admit I'm a sinner for letting it happen..."
Its not that bad having open relay, you would be surprised about how many email boxes are open...Qwest was running open relay servers until 3 weeks ago (but of course that defeats my point about it being a sin =/)
Until a few weeks ago, whenever someone would ask what our (Qwest Tech Support) number was, I would say 1 877 777 9569 (I think that is what I told them), instead of 1 888 777 9569.
So one day, I decided to call our number and play with the tech (note hatred towards most coworkers for their stupidity)...so I called...I immediately dropped the phone in horror...I had referred a couple hundred people to a gay porn number... =P
There really is no necessity to switch to DMT (for the unenlightened DMT=256 channels, CAP=4). The easiest way might be to cancel your service and set up it again, you then might get away with the router for $100 bucks, not the $300 I believe they are asking for. Of course, you might be able to fool one of us (80% of the techs are idiots) into RMA'ing you a new 678 (actually they are refurbished) under the impression that you were supposed to get it, not the 675.
As far as avoiding downtime, nah the people who set that up are lazy most of the time. No way to avoid it. (you might still get connectivity during those two weeks, but no guarentee). You would probably be stuck on Qwest dial for at least a week.
I hate Qwest for what they did and feel so bad having to lie to people. They gave us techs a 'quiet order' about this issue and how to avoid it.
There is a service out there by qwest called Starterpack. Its a cross between the Office Account and Residental. The DSL Service Center for Qwest isn't allowed to talk about it so you have to mention it. You can get Static Ips and everything ^_^ (it is only 5 bucks extra).
FYI...the automatic migration was suppose to take place on Monday but they moved it back to March last minute
Think about it this way...all these ISPs are (or were) rushing to make PCs that are for email, net and thats about it, something for grandma. If AOL owned RH, they would most likely develop these things with linux. Then we could say linux is a success because our grandmother uses it =D
I think that AOL's involvement may save linux and encourage expansion in the field. I gained alot of respect for AOL today. If AOL was a topic it went from (-1, Flamebait) to (1, Interesting).
lol...I am actually involved in this. The funny thing is, is that I didn't know the name or the relationship to the Segway creator (I read about the competition without making the connection).
All that I knew is that NASA(?) was giving our school 10,000$ to compete in some competition.
The fun thing is that I am in North Dakota, but our regionals are in St. Louis!(Any LUG meetings there?)
Shameless plugs on /., no way...when did this start?
=P
Oh God, if lain made sense I woould shoot myself...
I always said that you would have to be high to get Lain. My friend tried it...he still could not understand it.
I should befriend a Mushroom junkie and see if it takes a little more =/
I thought that the issue at stake was whether M$ so deeply rooted IE that it was impossible to remove it and maintain functionality?
Did I miss something? What brought about the change?
Yes it is modular or Win98 Lite wouldn't exist.
To be completely honest, I am not quit sure how this works, but this company has some software related to this story.
One is IEradicator that declaws IE from Win9x, 2k,and ME. Its freeware, try it in a VMWare virtual partition and watch windows die.
Another is 98 lite which can install 98 w/o IE
I am surprise these guys haven't see legal action from a vealous M$ trying to cover up some stuff...anyway, someone should try it and report back.
