I love osnews little version, with all the directories in the path displayed at the top, the idea being you could click on them to go back to that directory. Example: user clicks root, stuff, music (root, stuff, music, / appears at the top)
user decides he needs to go back to root, clicks root (top now says:/, root)
The so called infringing code is all public domain, and what is one thing SCO is pushing? that the GPL is invalid, so maybe there entire argument will be, that incorporating public domain code into the GPL is not allowed. Any thoughts on this slashdot lawyers?
But unfortuntatly other than telling my girlfriend about the idea I did not capitilize on it. Still the idea is not that novel and I am sure there are many that also came up with similar Ideas. the trick is working out how to allow the phone to make calls to REGULAR phones for basically a penny. Something like dialing an internet node which is in the location of the person you are dialing, and having the internet node connect to that person and pass the call back to you. Ofcourse this has many privacy implications but works basically something like this:
( represents internet connection : - : standard telephone line) You Internet node located in Area of your call recepient : - : Your call recepient
Does anyone know if Oman the robotic artist is competing, i used to be the webmaster for the Oman website but I can't seem to find him registered, can anyone close to the event tell me if oman the robotic artist has registered?
What is the advantage to me, a Linux using consumer, to buying your product over those of your competitors?
His awnser was basically non existant, i belive the poster of this question was asking, what advantage does TCPA present for me, a linux user, in which case the awnser is a big fat nothing, and waht benifit for windows users? once again, nothing
How is a human more reliable than a computer? I'd trust a computer more. A computer doesn't have a bad day. A computer does not come to work drunk, a computer is either programmed bad, or has a hardware failure, and enough testing can severly reduce that
Traditionally, your average IT guy, lived and breathed computers, he was not master of one, he was jack of all trades and (normally) master of one particular area. YOu couldn't just go into uni and be taught everything you needed to know to go out and do computing, you had to live and breath it at a young age.
The times have changed, now every man and his dog does IT degrees and the market is being flooded with well presented, sociable creatures who dont actually understand what they are doing, they don't understand what teh computer is doing, they have not LEARNT the computer, they have LEARNT the program.
The traditional IT workers who can't dress to save there lives and have little social skills are finding it alot harder to compete with these socially adept creatures, and thus the attitude of the workers and the employees has changed
Do we really WANT that? Seriously, the whole point (atleast for me) with this project was that my data was miles away from the non-security conciense microsoft. That i could pick the lesser of two evil's.
It would be best if it gave me an option.
But personally, i agree with what another Slashdot reader said: its the browser's job to look after a user's password. a single username and password for all your site's is absolutly retarded security-wise.
ARGH
we keep saying this, but u just wont listen
Converting from one lossy format, to another = alot worse image quality.. imagine making a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy and ull get the picture.. the quality degrades over time and you don't get all the good qualities of OGG.
Rip from the source.

Doens't matter, don't let it fool you, Telstra are an evil monopoly, they are the microsoft, of australia, they inflate broadband prices to absolutly insane levels and inflict us all with 3 gig (thats right, 3 gig) a month for horrendous amounts of money and with absolutly no stability, dont let this ever make you think telstra are a decent company, visit www.whirlpool.net.au for more info on how they exploit there monopoly posistion in australia to keep broadband prices high
I'm no big fan of Apache (or its configuration nightmare specifically).
Sigh, its amazingly simple, just because you don't have a pretty GUI, does not make it a nightmare to configure, more to the point, there are many programs that offer GUI configuration of apache, have a look around before dismissing apache because you can't set it up right
Maybe the music the respective formats are best in represent the musical tastes of (most) of the authors, Microsoft with WMA chamber music, OGG vorbis getting good in techo type music (and even though i prefer Power metal (think manowar, western europe metal bands (not rammstien, ugh)), i know alot of nerds love techno.
Just a thought.
P.s. It doens't explain too clearly the diffirence between the two ogg vorbis formats, atleast for me, can anyone expand a little?
I'm extremely Worried, the ramifcations of this in terms of blinding soldiers, for all things soldiers are, no matter what nationality, they certainly dont deserve to live a life of blindness when having eye sight for so long, i find this disgusting, and just because its the USA doing it does not excuse it.
Nvidia has atleast six months to go before they can have something to show. And running the 927 leaked build of UT2003 on a GF4 Ti 4600, you dont get playable framerates beyond 1024x768 with every detailed notched up.
Please dont forget, thats a Pre-release build, I'm positive there is still litreally thousand's of optimizations to do, it doesn't run too well on my card either (geforce 3 ti 200 with 128 DDRRAM), but have patients.
(oh, incidently. for a little laugh, try submitting a bug report and see what happen's, its a hoot!;))
Smart Move for Ebay, bad for paypal people.
on
Ebay buys PayPal
·
· Score: 2, Interesting
Who else can see paypal becoming a "have money sent to you, but only be allowed to be spent on ebay" type of service?
I get my pay from germany with paypal, if they change it to you can only use your paypal money to pay for ebay stuff, ebay will gain, but we will all be stuffed.

How ironic that a site called lego death is killed by the many bricks that are slashdot users
Lets face it, IT is changing, rapidly.
Traditionally, your average IT guy, lived and breathed computers, he was not master of one, he was jack of all trades and (normally) master of one particular area. YOu couldn't just go into uni and be taught everything you needed to know to go out and do computing, you had to live and breath it at a young age.

My theory anyway
Don't change this into what it's not:
A battle of the sexes
This is something completly unrelated.
An article about creating high performacne webservers being slashdotted
Yer, great, just great. mod it up, someone commites suicide, lets all have a good laugh
*sigh* disgusting.
Mayeb because these standards are open, and can be extended by anyone who chooses to extend them. That simple really

still... blindness? Its just blatantly disgusting

Is it really that unrealistic?
