There's only so many beaches- so many ski mountains- and either only the rich or powerfull will have them-
You don't need beaches or ski mountains in order to survive. Skiing is already reserved for the rich, as well as many beaches. In fact if you look at all the unused mountains, there are probably enough places to ski for everyone who wanted to if the world had a population of a trillion.
By the time most people have HDTVs, we'll be three or four console generations further along anyway. Not only do the prices have to come down massively, but a lot more content has to be produced in HDTV to make it viable, and they have to make smaller versions (believe it or not but most people don't even have the room for a 50" TV).
Would it be that bad if tolls made it so you could take a private bus to work in 1/3 of the time
Considering that public transport doesn't (and never has), served my route to work at the times I work, all tolls would do would cost me even more money. There are already busses, but no-one uses them because they're slow, never go where you want them to go, and are full of criminals.
I'm not saying people "should" ride buses, or that they should be forced into it specifically, or that there should be some petty system of incentives to push them in that direction.
That's not an incentive it's a punishment. Financially punishing people for having the audacity to go to work is one of those elitist policies designed by the rich, to get their poor of 'their' roads so they have more room for their SUVs.
I've always thought it would make more sense to toll the roads at peak hours until congestion isn't much higher than off peak hours.
Yeah, financially punish people for going to work. Brilliant. Just so the rich in their SUVs have more room on the roads on the way to the golf course^W^Wboard room.
Anyone who show as "obese" on the BMI charts but has enough muscle to throw things off is obviously either way toned, or way strong.
You don't need to be incredibly toned or strong, just mildly so. In fact if you even take the slightest care of yourself, your BMI will show you as obese.
The only reliable indicator of obesity is body-fat percentage. However this takes time to measure, so isn't useful in this instant-gratification society.
Seriously. If you're an average person, even a once or twice a week gym habit, and you show as obese... then you're 99% probably fat.
So if I work out regularly, have a BMI that shows me as obese, but I have a six-pack, what then?
So in other words it's Wind Waker with different graphics? If a game's only assset is innovative graphics, then maybe they deserved to go out of business.
Only works with 1.5+. And upgrading means hunting down and reinstalling ALL of your extentions. Have fun. This functionality was built into Opera over six years ago, with no extensions/upgrades necessary.
Yeah it's disgraceful that his job is actually something he enjoys. It'd be better if he cleaned toilets or something so gaming would keep its 'luster'.
If more of your value is in your drivers than in your hardware, you make crappy hardware. Good hardware yeilds drivers that don't disclose any secrets about your product because all you need is an interface. Cheap hardware offloads what should be happening on the hardware to your CPU. That's the difference between Winmodems and real modems.
Computers are a commodity and cheap is better than good. A modem is simple, a winmodem suits people fine. Having the majority of functionality in the drivers makes the hardware cheaper, which is better. 'Crappy' hardware is more than acceptable for home computers, there is no need for hardware modems at all.
everything else improves. why cant we improve on food.
Except these 'improvements' only improve shelf-life and manufacturing costs, not quality. In fact this 'advanced' food is often of far lower quality than food made naturally, both in terms of taste and nutrition.
Why exactly is food contrary to everything else, natural is the least efficient.
And you've also lost several hours a day of your time. Bear in mind that cycling is a low-intensity exercise so any weight loss will level out eventually and you'll have to find something else to do.
It seems that the parent poster generalised, assuming he was talking to someone who lived in an urban area. You are one of the small percentage that doesn't, so it doesn't apply to you.
I'd think it would be a rather small number that both live in the heavily urbanised areas where public transport is viable, and work and travel at the right times. Most people live in light urban areas or the suburbs.
You can ride pretty easily on a bike, but it takes a lot more human exertion than pushing accelarate/brake and turning a wheel.
Not much more exertion. I cycled to work for two years and it didn't do me any good at all. I'd say I get more benefit from ten minutes in the gym than ten hours cycling. It's really overrated.
Probabvly the same amount as if three people catch it, so make sure you're on it!
I can walk to work quicker than the bus. That's not even counting the hour it takes to show up. If it shows up at all. The problem with public transport is if your route is cancelled, you're completely fucked.
90% of all trips are less than a mile anyway, so why not walk or bike them?
100% of my trips are more than five miles away. And even a mile's walk in a storm is a misery.
And yes, you'd be amazed how many shops will deliver, but I'd bet you hadn't had the need to ask before, have you?
I don't buy food unless I've picked it myself. This goes double for fruit and vegetables, triple for eggs and bread. And I doubt independent butchers have delivery services. Unless you like eating supermarket crap, then it might be viable.
If your city has rapid transit in one form or another, it more than likely lets you park at the nearest train station
Supposing I don't live in a city? Or travel outside of a city? Or work or travel at times where public transport is unavailable (i.e. before 8 in the morning or after 6 at night), or unviable (in the evenings when they're full of criminals).
Either option is also good for your health, by the way. Not only are you contributing less to smog, but you're getting more exercise.
Walking or cycling short distances (a few miles or less) isn't exercise unless you weigh 300 pounds. And how much smog do you think a bus with two people on puts out?

Whether the game manufacturers say it has legal value or not, if you cash in, that's income, and you have to pay tax on it.

Innovative games make money, as long as they're good. Games for which the only merit is being innovative are pointless.
Let's face it, if their innovations were any good, people would have bought the games, and they'd still be in business.
Only works with 1.5+. And upgrading means hunting down and reinstalling ALL of your extentions. Have fun. This functionality was built into Opera over six years ago, with no extensions/upgrades necessary.
On the contrary, include more things by default. Hunting down extensions for every little bit of functionalty is a pain in the arse.
Having good translators isn't going to stop the Iraqis from wanting to kill each other, and everyone else.
Yeah it's disgraceful that his job is actually something he enjoys. It'd be better if he cleaned toilets or something so gaming would keep its 'luster'.
People want to watch and sponsor people playing games. They don't want to watch or sponsor people writing games. This is a very simple concept.
What exactly is the marketable skill in signing a contract that says 'give me loads of money'?
With no operating system you can't connect to the Internet.

Why should they be given the opportunity to be rehabilitated? They didn't afford that luxury to their victims.
Evolution has not equipped man to deal with genetic modification, chemicals, or preservatives.
Except these 'improvements' only improve shelf-life and manufacturing costs, not quality. In fact this 'advanced' food is often of far lower quality than food made naturally, both in terms of taste and nutrition.
Efficient doesn't taste good.
And you've also lost several hours a day of your time. Bear in mind that cycling is a low-intensity exercise so any weight loss will level out eventually and you'll have to find something else to do.
Maybe the Chinese, Thai or Japanese, but not the Koreans. Unless you're into acne...
Maybe if more people played football and ran round tracks instead of playing computer games, there wouldn't be such an obesity crisis.
Because not many people will be willing to pay for something they used to watch for free. A few rich people will, but not most.
