Am I the only one disappointed that I had to scroll down about 200 posts to find a post that was actually informative and relevent to the article? Everything before was 'funny' posts about misspellings or puns. I thought this site was supposed to be full of nerds?
I'd say history's harder to write. With sci-fi you can just make everything up to fit the plot. I mean what do you think was harder to write, Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy or War and Peace?
The problem with buying barrels at home is that it goes off within a week. I mean I'm a heavy drinker, but I don't think I could average seven pints a day every day. The pump costs a couple of hundred quid as well. And I haven't really got anywhere to put it.
Supermarket prices would be about a pound per tin, or even less.
This is incredibly important research. If they keep it up, it's only a matter of time before they develop a can or bottle where the beer has the same consistency as when it's hand-drawn. They can't do that without researching beer bubbles. The widget has been obsolete for far too long, it's the 21st century for heaven's sake.
If they can spend $17 billion a year on NASA to launch a few people into space to do nothing of use, they can spend a couple of billion to get me a pub-like pint of ale at home, at supermarket prices.
Governemnts have a vested interest in global warming, as it's an excuse to raise taxes and generally interfere, so of course they'll fund scientists who support global warming.
Computer models are not 'proof'. And environmental scientists have a massive agenda in pushing global warming, as without it they don't get any funding.
Weaving? Even when drunk I can drive in a straight line perfectly well. Maybe you've just been watching too much TV, which is where you get your knowledge on drink driving.
I've driven drunk, and I don't 'weave'. All drinking does is slow your reaction times, and makes you fuck up lane changes. It also lessens your sense of the width of the vehicle.
The engineers that design roads tend to make them somewhat regular.
Engineers don't design roads, they're already there, often following centuries old routes. My route to work is full of sharp bends, this device would probably decide that I'm drunk, even when I was sober.
Then make the prison system cheaper. Rip out the TVs, gyms, heating, air conditioning etc. Fit more into each room, chain them all down so they can't riot, only feed them cheap gruel, use your imagination.
Not to mention the costs of policing and courts would go down as most of the trouble makers would be behind bars.
If they can't be rehabilitated, then why let them out at all? Of course keeping all thieves and murderers in prison for life costs money, but how much would it cost per tax-payer compared to how much we spend on insurance against theft?
Well, how Google survives depends on how much they pay their employees in stock options. If their share price collapses, all those options are worthless, and Google could see all their best employees walk out the door and join their rivals.
What I'd like to see is the Goverment doing something useful for a change (in the UK at least) and allow companies to charge their employees electric vehicles for free (ie a tax free perk) - sort of an green update on the old company car scheme.
In the UK, most people don't get company cars. In fact, you're lucky to get to park at all, rather than down the street. How does this charging work when you're parked on some obscure lane?
A small overnight boost will get you back to work again!
How does this work when like most people in Britain I don't have a garage and have to park down the road?
If so, they are not allowed to go faster than 40 KM/H. That's the same speed as a moped or scooter may do.
Except scooters are narrow and can nip in between traffic. These things have no such advantage, you'd just be holding everyone else up, and would probably be eventually rammed off the road.
And I'd hate to be in one of these things when you get out of the traffic and onto a country road or the motorway.
If you want a prisoner to come out who is neither predator nor preyed upon and who is ready to rejoin society in a responsible manner, then their prison sentences need to be spent in a way that furthers that goal. That means that their prison life needs to be as close to normal as possible.
They tried giving them a 'normal' life, with subscription TV, gyms, libraries, all sorts of luxuries. They still come out and reoffend. Maybe prison should be made a lot harder and less enjoyable, so they don't want to go back in.
Because it might not be discovered as stolen until later. Really, I don't see what people on this site have against law an order. Maybe it comes from all being computer pirates/hackers.
Yes, I'm sure that today's peasants sitting on their couches watching cable TV drinking beer and eating pizza wish they were slaves building colloseums.
How much culture is produced by people with degrees in art? Most of the best musicians didn't study it at university, same goes for most artists, actors, directors etc.

It doesn't work like that, you can see curves a long way off.

You pay $1.40 for an apple?
As long as it's not paid for by the tax-payer I don't see the problem. Otherwise it's just a waste.
It's not, it has very few players compared to fun MMORPGs.

Bones heal by themselves anyway, and I, like most people, am not missing any bones, so where is the benefit for this technology?

You've obviously never driven in Italy. Or France. Or England. Or in fact anywhere in Europe.

It costs 15 grand to hook up dynamos to exercise bikes? They're just magnets and wires...

You could use a slippery slope argument to protest against the formation of police in the first place, or even a justice system.
