Actually, I've found to my considerable surprise that Bing is a decent service. I don't see any particular advantage it offers over google, but if google suddenly vanished I could get by without it now.
I'd love to see what happens when it's no longer necessary to fork over a trillion dollars a year to OPEC, or spend billions on shipping oil around the world.
It's morally acceptable to kill an attacker in self-defense, or in the defense of others. Are you actually unclear on this point, or are you being deliberately obtuse?
I don't see why it would have to be very expensive. The display you'd put in a mouse wouldn't have to be anything like the kind of display you put on an iPhone. Unit cost could easily be under $10 in the kind of quantities that Apple buys. As for wearing out, I have yet to have any Apple mouse die on me, and the oldest one I've got is an ADB mouse from 1996 or so.
The last time he sold any AAPL shares, it was to cover the taxes for his most recent share grant. The last time he actually sold a significant number to cash out, Gil Amelio was still running the place.
selling stock to more than 500 investors, and that doing so while remaining a privately traded company in the US is legally difficult,
Try impossible. SEC rules on registration requirements don't offer any wiggle room. If you have 500 shareholders and over $10M in assets, you're public.
>Microsoft still has a lot of money to throw at vendors
Frankly, I think MS really shot themselves in the foot with that "Zune" business, because it showed all the vendors who were participating in the "plays for sure" program that MS would drop them like a rock if they found it convenient to do so. If you're a handset maker today, and your options are Windows phone 7 or Android, what is there that MS brings to the table? You get to pay MS for the software, and get what? The halo effect of jumping on a bandwagon that stalled out years ago?
Wikipedia has a huge problem with PR spin and scrubbing by devotees of various cults and political factions. The entry on Sun Myung Moon, for example, looks like there's a full-time team of zombies making sure it never says anything negative about him. You can see a similar pattern on the article for Lyndon LaRouche.
my guess is that the monopoly was given in order to secure investment in order to build out the infrastructure.
My guess is that the monopoly privilege was bought and paid for by the investors in AT&T, and the congress couldn't care less as long as they got their bribe money.
The fact is, that the iPhone 4's antenna outperforms all previous iPhone antennas, and Apple tested it extensively while it was under development.
If you're in a location where the signal is very weak, (like, where a lot of other phones wouldn't have connected at all) you can make it drop a call if you detune the antenna by bridging the gap.
That looks like you trying to deny information that doesn't fit your prejudice. Do you have a better source for estimates of the number of defensive uses of firearms?
As for your condescending attitude towards someone who successfully defended herself: it's your prerogative of course to be irresponsible regarding your own self-defense. I truly hope that if you ever find yourself in a situation where you might regret your decision, there's someone on hand who's equipped and prepared to save you.
It's appropriate, since the entire "social security trust fund" is nothing but IOUs from a government that's deeper in debt than any other government has ever been in all of recorded history.
I can't imagine any realistic scenario where would-be burglar/thief/assassin/rapist is likely to get into a situation where their intended victim has a gun trained on *them*.
Tell it to this lady. Lots of things that you can't imagine, happen every day.
I guess someone had better let Ray Nagin know that he's not a Democrat, because he still thinks he is.
Since you're so determined to blame the Katrina disaster entirely on Republicans (ignoring the fact that the mayor and governor were both Democrats), perhaps you can explain why the levees weren't fixed during any of the Democratic administrations in the twentieth century? Why do you imagine that Gore would have attended to them when Roosevelt, Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, Carter, and Clinton didn't?
Flood control in New Orleans is a textbook example of why it's insane to rely on government for critical infrastructure when lives are at stake.
There are several vendors already offering gloves that work with touch screens.

> I'm sick of having to deal with cutting funding for education
When did that happen?
The USA's spending per pupil has more than doubled since the 1960s, and that's inflation-adjusted.

I'm not thrilled about the debt, but this is nowhere near true.
The US government's total unfunded obligations are in the neighborhood of a hundred trillion dollars. SS alone is around 17.5 trillion.

Apparently, somewhere between 800 thousand and two and a half million times a year.
