Ok, they still (re)released it last week, and the statement still said they *had* to track users to give them a good experience, so how does the fact that it was originally stated a year ago change the fact that they've stated publicly the exact opposite of what Steve is claiming now? We know they are recording cellphone tower information for an indefinite amount of time, we know that the information is available to applications, and most importantly we *know* that the information is available under subpoena (both criminal and civil) whereas the Android data is remove after 24 hours.

This is one of the reasons I'm waiting till this fall to replace my current car (along with waiting to see if BMW brings the x1 diesel, if Ford brings the Vertrek concept as the next Escape, and whether Mazda will bring the CX-7 diesel to the US, I want a high MPG crossover with AWD).

Of course the paraffin is a good idea for starting wet kindling and the matches don't take up that much additional volume so I guess it's ok as a last resort .

His favorite statistic was that for every civil engineer we graduated one hundred and something jobs were created but for every finance major we graduated we lost one thousand jobs. He did his very best to keep people on during the recession and while we had to severely trim a few departments (we won't be developing new properties for the foreseeable future so the development department was all but eliminated) our overall headcount today is only down about 10% from what it was before the recession.

The judge has already admonished them that using the federal circuit as a business office is not the intent of the law, trying to refile the same claims he has rejected in a similar case is really just asking to have the hammer brought down on their heads.

Do they need to reduce theft and breakage? If the increased cost of shipping is more than the losses from the others then you put up with them to get the cheaper rates. This is what Netflix has done and they are the obviously more successful business. Life is about choices, making poor ones and then going crying to the government about how it's unfair that you're not having your poor choices subsidized is just lame.

Not true, they get ~$150M in appropriations from Congress each year. Not huge in the $45B annual budget but not peanuts either. There's also all the mail that federal agencies are required by mandate to send through the USPS instead of commercial carrier which is in effect a subsidy.

Uh, yes I'm actually familiar with the facts in the case, the order says they were discriminated against by having their mailers machine processed instead of hand sorted. The *reason* they aren't hand sorted is that Gamefly *chose* to make their mailers not stick out to reduce theft. You can't complain that your mailers aren't being pulled before the sorts *and* try to make them not stick out. Gamefly *also* chose to use a tougher but heavier mailer to reduce their breakage costs but which result in higher fuel costs for the USPS, forcing the USPS to lose money on heavier envelopes or increase rates for the companies that were willing to reduce their fuel costs is stupid bureaucracy at its best.

  14. Bad ruling on Ruling Confirms Postal Service Discriminated Against GameFly · · Score: 1, Insightful

Why should the USPS be forced to subsidize a business that's unwilling to make simple technical changes that would reduce their cost to process their bulk mail? If you cost them more money you *should* be charged more, especially when you are told what fixes you can make to accommodate them and get the better rates. The postal service is subsidized by the taxpayers and any shortfall from a bulk customer like Gamefly will either be shoulder by us directly through larger appropriations or through rate hikes.

On the previous two it was a good thing they lasted so long because the engine was crammed into the bay in such a way that it required a header removal to replace the rear bank, and to further increase the badness the overhead cams didn't ride on bearing but a machined channel in the header so if you don't reassemble things perfectly your engine is toast.
