This reminds me of one a while back that made me wonder how much some sellers were screwed by returns. I'd ordered something that was shipped by amazon, but it turns out this was from a 3rd party. It was messed up and didn't work correctly so I requested to return and replace it. Amazon said that it was a 3rd party so they couldn't replace it, and just plain gave me money back. Without being able to verify my claims or anything by a replacement.... it made me wonder how often someone could just say something from a 3rd party didn't work, and would get money for it no matter what?
Not saying I'd do it, was just thinking it'd suck to be a seller and have this happen a ton.
I've posted about this on here once before, but I used to work at Bed, Bath, and Beyond when I was in college. We had a return policy of more or less "Return anything at any time for any reason." Even if it was something purchased 5 years before.
The only time I ever heard anything about excessive returns eventually being blocked were when we had customers who had returned over 150 items or so.
Otherwise the system was abused heavily in a ton of ways. Ways such as:
1) Someone would buy an item with a 20% off coupon. Next day they would return it w/o receipt and state that they paid cash.... so they would get extra store credit.
2) Someone would buy an item (we'll say a toaster oven). 5 years later the new model would come out. They'd return their dirty used toaster oven saying it wasn't heating right.... for full price... then buy the new one with a 20% off coupon.
3) Summertime! We have a bunch of outdoor furniture during summer. Customer buys $500 of outdoor furniture. A week later "the color didn't match" and they return (obviously used for a party of some sort) furniture with food and drink stains on it.
4) And of course the thieves. Steal something, return for credit... Steal something and also buy it then just return it, etc etc. We had a lady who probably committed insurance fraud as well. She bought a $2,000 espresso machine and returned it unopened a month or so later. Paid for by cash and returned by cash.
These stories always have either comments about the horrors of Musk, or how everything is ok and great.
I don't care a ton.... but if I could get an AWD Tesla with a longer battery life it'd be nice. There are a few charging stations near my area, and I don't travel long distance often enough to warrant much fear on the battery life. Plus the Ludicrous Speed thing would be fun.
But there's honestly not enough to make me get one right now even if it was available to instantly purchase. I've yet to feel like I'd need to flame or defend Tesla though.
Certain people are losing faith, certain never had it... and certain people still think fully functional auto pilot "fall asleep at the wheel mode" exists today.
I was just having to tell someone the other day that "those auto pilot cars" don't just drive everywhere for you yet.
Notice, he is a president and not a king. So many people keep forgetting that.
This reminds me of trying to talk to an acquaintance a while back about issues at work. She only wanted to talk about Trump. After 15 minutes I wanted to change topic and she wouldn't let go. My refusing to make my 24/7 topic Trump had her go into a meltdown where she literally said he was going to create concentration camps for all blacks and gays etc etc and if we didn't discuss him and how to stop him we were signing their death warrants.
I could only think "Do.... do you really think he can make concentration camps for everyone that isn't white and straight and the government would just let him????"
I've always hated how the media reacted when Obama was President. For whatever reason some people act like it's 100% his fault... but I'd blame the media.
Remember the incident where a black man was shot in his own house by the cops, responding to a call about a break in from his neighbors? I seem to recall the media reaction was something like this:
Media: Mr President was this racist?
Obama: We don't know that at this time.
Media: Well what if it was racist?
Obama: We don't know that it was. But that would be a terrible thing if it was.
Media: PRESIDENT OBAMA CONFIRMS POLICE FORCE RACISM AND ADMONISHES THEM FOR THEIR WHITE POWER HATRED OF AFRICAN AMERICANS.
This is sort of what I was thinking when I read the story. Why does it matter if this year, or for the past 10 the reproduction rate is slightly lower? I'd only think it would be a problem if it dropped down to a small percent of families, so that numbers massively dropped in the next 2-3 generations. 1.86 would be what... a small dent?
Not really a problem that needs solving.
Years ago I remember reading about some program in Utah where they provided housing for the homeless and helped them find jobs, and once they were employed they had a very low rent. Apparently it worked really well and helped a lot.
My favorite part of this is occasionally stuff on amazon ships with a bag and the label on the bag states "chemicals in this product have been identified by the state of California to cause cancer" and so you find reviews where they have a picture of that or just mention it and basically the review is "1/5 WTF AMAZON!!!!! YOU GAVE ME CANCER!!!!"
So lets talk about this disparity when women start doing dangerous jobs.
While I know this will vary by workplace, I can at least say that I've seen women be demanded way less in a warehouse job before. At the same position and pay, they were always given the less physically demanding jobs in the warehouse. If they didn't want to lift a box, then any other man could be called over and told to pick it up for them. Don't want to? Too bad, want to be written up for not doing your job?
Also men were still expected to meet various production numbers while doing any physical labor that any female workers didn't want to do.
But on that note, we did have one lady there who also worked at FedEx and she worked hard and never asked guys to lift anything unless it was actually too heavy - and she would HELP rather than just stand and watch when the guy came to lift for her. She worked her butt off all the time and I know FedEx required her and all other female to do that.... Our warehouse? Not so much...
Not to mention the fact that many outside/active jobs are held by lower socio-economic groups, who also tend to die earlier for a wide range of reasons.
This reminds me of when I worked at a warehouse several years ago. I'd place a lot of the bad physical toll of work on giving the workers extra stress of things such as: "YOU'RE NOT GETTING ENOUGH DONE. PEOPLE MADE MISTAKES. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET FIRED," constantly at the job. People either stressed super hard, or didn't care because "Well they'll probably fire me sometime soon anyway so why should I worry?" and just gave up on everything.
Plus most workers there tended to eat fast food every day for lunch and dinner... and most of them also frequently got blackout drunk on weekends (and occasionally on weekdays).
I'd attribute way more health issues to extreme stress and poor nutrition rather than just the work being bad for them.
Oddly FedEx used to be the one that was the best for me. They were the only ones that used to deliver packages to me that weren't terribly damaged.
My favorite being when UPS delivered something to my house by throwing the box so hard at the door that it left a chip in the door and broke part of the item out of the box.
The other thing I often wonder based on these stats... Wouldn't someone driving a very expensive Tesla car probably also be driving more responsibly than someone with say... at 30 year old $300 car? Would the Tesla drivers be as likely to be out driving drunk, driving on dirt/mud/gravel roads?
A lot of bad accidents come from people being stupid idiots, rather than the car being any kind of issue. Auto pilot won't help someone driving almost blackout drunk at 50mph over the speed limit.
There are also the guys who lift several hundred pounds and eat 4,000 calories a day. They will be very happy to find the cheapest/largest source of calories on the go!
I was just about to post a comment about the meat Spam, rather than spam mail. A friend of mine first got on the internet in the early 90's... what's the first thing he searched and looked up a website for?
Spam. The "delicious meat."

And when asked to provide the names of competitors, Zuckerberg stated "MyPlus and Google Space!"
They either need to be 100 feet long.... or Earthworm Jim.

Definitely shouldn't be thinking: "Gotta destroy it for Armageddon!" (Especially if it's the Bruce Willis Armageddon)
How will Mickey Mouse be vastly expanding and improving upon our culture? Will he truly bring us into The Days of Glory?
Exciting news coming from the new Evil Google. Their chains have been broken and they are free to do their darkest desires!

But if customers complain about the food, will the robots be able to prepare it again and spit in it out of spite?

That's what I was thinking. 15 inside seems low if you spend 8 hours sleeping and 8 hours working.

California study finds cancer links during healthy diet, places warning labels on all healthy foods.
I see. So will this be used in the flamethrower?
Two hours after that story was published, a Tesla smashed into a Starbucks in Los Gatos, California.
For some reason this almost made me spit my coffee (not Starbucks) out laughing. That was not an expected ending to the article.
