If I know PJ (and I don't), I don't think the purpose of this is to truly offer insurance. I think it's just to get the word out there that people in the know know this: SCO is full of shit. SCO has made a lot of waves by whining and litigating without showing a shred of proof, and they've even had companies like EV1 cave in and buy licenses just because they feat a lawsuit!
Since the government (SEC?), for whatever reason, is allowing this nonsense to continue, this company is fighting fire with fire and responding in tow: they are attacking SCO on the battleground they themselves defined: the media. They are standing up and saying "We've audited Linux cover to cover, and you, sirs, are full of it."
This is what we need. More news that gets the word out that SCO is an organization of extortionists who have learned to use the slow, inefficient, expensive legal system as a weapon. To boil it down: SCO is metaphorically using the old "pretending the finger in your pocket is a gun" shtick, and OSRM is announcing "That's your finger, jackass."
Isn't this kind of silly? Why would we the Linux community actively choose to NOT use stylesheets? They're not complex and they're widely supported now. Only this community of emacs users at GUI-less workstations users would think it better to not use CSS. I see refusing their introduction as actively alienating users by refusing to implement anything that could possibly be considereed "eye candy."
I'm sure someone will mod this down as flamebait, but it's not meant to be. Truly, this is one of those times I find myself not so surprised that Microsoft retains so many customers - because you gotta sell the sizzle with the steak.
Thanks for being a dick, but as far as I can tell, you're wrong.
A cursory glance around most of the tech sites confirm what I originally said, which is without application updates, the GTK changes may not be immediately visible.
Unless I'm misunderstanding, you won't really get many of the benefits unless you upgrade Gnome at the same time. The apps aren't going to magically use the new file selector. You probably want to do Gnome, GTK, pango, and all the "G" components together.
XP gold is build 2600. And I haven't used NT 4 in a long time, but I think every boot the blue screen told you the build number, 1381.
I find it kind of interesting that 4053 is just out when 4051 was handed out months ago at the PDC. I was under the impression (and think I remember reading somewhere) that MS made a new build every day, and that it took something like 12 hours to compile Windows each night.
There's no punishment for them if they don't realize that its stolen property...
Not true. Stolen property is stolen property. If you don't want to be involved, you had better trust the source of your purchase. Plausible deniability may effect the extent of the punishment, but simply not knowing you bought something stolen does not get you "off the hook."
Which is worse - that the submitter didn't read the article, that the Slashdot editors didn't read the article, or that most of the commenters didn't read the article?
Microsoft is NOT working with sendmail. They both happen to be working on ways to combat spam. That's not news, we all knew that already. Nowhere in that article does it say anything about cooperation.
I nearly fainted when I saw the headline, but sadly, it simply isn't true.
Damn, dude, that is seriously funny. Great reference. I don't know who modded you "insightful," but I think that's a masterfully funny post. And moreover, I think anyone who doesn't agree probably didn't get it.
You know, my first inclination was to shout out "Hell yeah!" WinAmp 3 SUCKED and WinAmp 2 is still perfectly functional and meets all my needs. But then I downloaded 5, slapped a WA2 skin on it, and played with the media library stuff. And the InternetTV. You know what? Turns out WinAmp 5 ain't all that bad - it's actually kinda cool. Stable as hell and cool new options that make it almost like an iTunes management program.
Of course, the point of the article is enhacing code, so the argument could probably be made that, as the author points out, why not just take the cool parts of 5 and add them to 2? Why use a combination of 2 and 3 when NO ONE liked 3?
Excuse me, sir, I did not "neglect to click the link." I've used NetBSD various times over the last 4 years and I'm well acquainted with the current logo. They are going for a "*new* logo," and there's a good bet that submitters will build using the daemon as a starting point.
My advice still holds: let's choose an identity for NetBSD via a mascot. It's pretty friggin hard to identify NetBSD and say, "you know - the one with the demons all hiking up the computers to plant the NetBSD flag Iwo Jima style?"
Beastie, although he is really a BSD thing in general, is most associated with FreeBSD. OpenBSD adopted Puff the Blowfish and it is instantly recognizable as obsd. I think NetBSD design submitters ought to choose a new animal - perhaps a stingray, a lobster, a crab, or some other creature that can defend itself - and go for it. Then NetBSD will have some individual recognizable identity to those outside the BSD aware.

You're almost definitely going to be modded "flamebait" or "troll," but if I had mod points today, you'd get a big fat "+1 Funny" from me.
Cheers!
I wonder if that still means IE7 will only run on Longhorn?
Didn't they say they were even going to move parts of IE into the kernel?
"Phffft, you're running Windows 2005. Lamer! I'm on BillGatesHasNoPenis 2.4, which is so much more superior."
I'd hardly be bothered by a comment from some l33t kiddie who used the phrase "more superior."
AMEN!
I'm sorry, but does anyone else think Slashdot April Fools jokes have just been lame the last two years.
Everyone take a clue: if your joke isn't believable, subtle, or even remotely funny, don't submit it.
This stuff is just plain stupid.
Man, if I hadn't posted already, I'd mod you up as funny.

How about...
a. Turn off preview pane
b. Use OWA
c. Stop using Outlook/Outlook Express
?!
Xorg is an implementation of X11. XFree86 is another implementation of X11.
What you want is to know the difference between XFree86 and Xorg.

Anyone else remember that?
WinFX is the new API framework. I'm willing to put my money on Windows FX.

...a good Futurama reference to spice up your KDE download.
Presiding Council: What say you, Mr. Slashdot Ambassador?
Slashdotter: Ahem......FUCK INTEL!

That's really good! A cockroach, with a motto like "Surviving all conditions and terrains."

I've got screenshots somewhere. I'll see if I can find them.
1) Install the Longhorn pre-beta, build 4096 ...by default(!)
2) Start > Run > cmd
3) type ipconfig
4) notice that it tries to get IPv6 address
