Seriously, you think that the majority of Android phone users know it is built upon Linux? You give these people more credit than I would. It succeeded due to the Fisher Price interface of current smartphones.
Being the poor sap that has to open up all those links and read the contents. You would think that they could automate it somehow, so they didn't have to read the chat message and then click on the link...
I just had a brilliant idea, a headless browser... I'll make millions...
Funny reading all these comments on how great FirefoxOS will be and how everyone will get access to sub $200 smartphones and how great it will be having an open phone, blah, blah, blah.
People were singing the praise when Google was doing the same thing and look how that turned out. Unless Mozilla or whoever is backing this endeavor can be like Apple and make/distribute their own hardware along with control the underlying OS and how it is bundled with the hardware it will fall the same way as Google did. Telco providers will just implement their own draconian limits on the device (with regards to updates/services) and you all will be no better than you were before.
And this is different than say cell phone providers or cell phone software vendors? Google, RIM and MS would rather you buy a new device with the latest software than have to support some older version of the software I am sure.
Wow I read that and just realized that the growing number of Android users are just as clueless as the majority of Windows users now...
But then that's what Google wants in it's users, lambs that will follow it and keep on thinking "do no evil". That is what the ecosystem business model has become.
The reason why is because of the rampant false claims made by professional groups of people who make it their living from causing accidents and making claims. It has nothing to do with being a snitch rather than saving your own ass and if it helps the insurance company and you save money I say good for them.
Personally I have a dash cam in my car ever since some a-hole tried to run me off the road when I would not let him in to the line of traffic because he used the shoulder (against the law here) to get to the front of the line. I wish they would offer that kind of discount here.
I found this quote in the article from Schmidt, seems that he is more clueless than most people about technology.
Rooted Glass opens up another universe of possible problems. How about a side-loaded app to count cards at the blackjack table? Schmidt suggests it's that kind of potential that's already gotten Glass banned from Las Vegas casinos.
"They haven't even seen it yet," Schmidt said.
And I'm sure that Schmidt thought that nobody would root his OS because they are not "evil" either.
Since Google is forking Webkit I suspect that they will be doing the same thing in the near future or have not already to make their services work better in the browser.
Exactly what they want so N.Korea can cry foul and point the finger at the US. What the US and allies should do is wait until a launch happens and then take action to defend their borders by destroying the missile, then see what they do. By doing this it shows that the US is not a war-hungry bully country.
Personally it has less to do with consolidation and more with priorities. Let's face it when you are in your 20's or 30's you might be more willing to buy toys or gadgets just for the cool factor but once you get older and have kids and more responsibilities that often falls to the wayside. I am pretty sure that he didn't consolidate his game consoles for anything other than he is older and lost interest in shooters and other types of games that require an investment of time, now simple puzzle games and such are his focus.
If the yellow light was 1 minute you would still have asshats that would speed up to get through it rather than slowing down even if they were 20 yards away.
The only reason XP lasted so long was due to its install base. Win7 has nowhere near that so I expected a shorter support timeline. Win8 will be more popular with mobile devices and we all know how that works (cough Google, cough Apple).
And since Microsoft is now working on "Blue" http://www.theverge.com/2012/11/28/3693368/windows-blue-update-low-cost we probably can expect the same thing from them as well. OS's will last as long as the hardware they were designed for and no more. This is how the future of large corporate software is going and OEMs who build hardware are going to love it as it means frequent hardware changes. This all pushed by the fact that people are getting used to buying a new phone every 2-3 years so why not other personal computing systems.
I live in Winnipeg and this past month we saw -35c to -40c at night (-50c with the wind). Most 6+ cylinder cars that are outside and don't get plugged in pretty much don't start. Myself I have a 6 cylinder high output engine (high compression) and even parked in the garage one day it barely started, took 3 attempts to get it going. Most 4 cylinder cars with good batteries usually don't need to be plugged in at those temps, might run without oil for a couple of seconds but it will start.
Sounds very similar to various "Startup" weekends that I have attended lately.
3...2...1
With all that user data it would seem rather logical as the next step.
Android/Linux succeeded with non-technical people
Seriously, you think that the majority of Android phone users know it is built upon Linux? You give these people more credit than I would. It succeeded due to the Fisher Price interface of current smartphones.
Isn't that typical of all Anonymous Coward's?

Digital restrictions management (DRM) creates damaged goods that users cannot control or use freely
The last movie I watched via XBox Video probably had DRM up the ying-yang but it seemed to work ok, what damage are you talking about?
You can install Linux on Android.

Based on our movies alone about ET's what aliens would want to drop by only if to exterminate us so we don't end up attacking them in the future.

Because thier egos are fragile?
The first thing I though of was the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blink_element/
I can only imagine how much easier it will be for Google to track us via a custom HTML and extensions it implements...

My 2 cents
Irrelevant

Sounds more like Google wants to have Street View of the moon.
Sooo... just as Bittorrent became popular?
