So yeah they probably should not have had the press release, but what some of you people don't realize is that the economy is tanking for alot of tech companies. Lets see, support product(s) that probably have less than lets say 10% of a market share, cater to group (linux users) within that product market lets say 1% at most. As you can see they probably don't really care to piss off 1% of users to help keep their company profitable.
Teachers these days have enough problems teaching the 3 R's little lone any other subject. Have you ever seen the average kids spelling or grammer lately?
Back to the basics I say...
Oh yeah and get off my lawn you little whipper-snappers....
The people who have it thinks everybody should have it.
The people who don't have it don't really need it as they get by without it just fine.
It's like a validation thing on the side of the haves (I have it because everyone else has it). So if not all people have it it's like then you don't really need it after all and the only reason you do is to "keep up with the jones".
And oh yes I have it mostly due to the fact I work from home and vpn into the office 5 days a week. Plus it's cool to have....
Funny the OP only mentioned two projects and one is only planning. Sometimes/. can be a bigger hype machine than money grabbing corps. that we all love to bash.
Like you I am actually surprised people are surprised by this. OMG!! a Trojan in a downloadable file from what is pretty much a hub for sharing warez. I guess there are naive people out there that think because it passed through a BitTorrent network the BT fairies and pixies have cleaned the files from all that is bad.
2004 is the year of Linux on the desktop.
2005 is the year of Linux on the desktop..
2006 is the year of Linux on the desktop...
2007 is the year of Linux on the desktop....
2008 is the year of Linux on the desktop.....
Screw all this waiting I predict that "2009 is the year of Android on the desktop".
It was looking good till I saw the Andriod (cellphone operating system)? WTF? Regardless if it's open source or not it's a friggin' cell phone, where is the breakthrough in that?
How can developers who are working for free protect themselves and avoid getting exploited by business users of Linux?
Lets see probably 85%+ of all hosting companies around the world that use Linux as hosting packages to make money off probably don't give back to the community in any way other than using their warez.
Now question; how do you or the develoeprs working on these projects define exploited?
Sorry but that opening statement tells me that you are either some tech support person that is looking to get his/her foot in the door or look smart with other fellow techies by "suggesting" whatever the results of this question.
I realize that there are probably students that help with university networks and all but to think they actually have some say in what direction this university will go in is a little far fetched.
Here is a good example of a person taking an open forum and using it for their own glory.
Seems that Yahoo made this claim months ago but for a 2 petabyte database. The article goes on to list a couple of others that have more than 2 petabytes of archived data. So it's safe to say that the petabyte data barrier has been broken for some time.
Sorry I beg to differ as I am a ex VB3, VB4, VB5, VB6 programmer. I now program in C# and VB.NET (depending on clients requirements). Bad programming has nothing to do with language but more to mentality. You have two types of developers' status-quo and ones who take pride in their work. It's the status-quo developers that tend to "cut and paste" and "short-cut" their way through their work which leads to crappy code.
I guess all the years of RTFM have finally caught up.
And Microsoft's defeat is INEVITABLE
Just like this will be the year of Linux...
About time, someone give them a medal and lets all help out....

Makes sense to me...
PS4?
I thought that I read a Sony CEO saying some where that the PS3 was future proof and the 360 is just transitional?
Forward to today and oops.......

I wonder if Google makes a better VM than Sun, Sun will go after Google like they did MS back in the day.

This is not surprising as the Infineon 3G chipset solution has never really been tested in the hands of users
It would seem that early adopters are becoming the new testers for consumer hardware. And since I am not an early adopter.....
I thank all of you for making my experience so much better a year from now when I buy v2.5 of the hardware.
