The point of the n00sphere is that it is densely populated by n00bs, most of them dense.
PT Barnum observed "There's one born every minute." Clearly an under-estimate, since his field of observation was obscured by dense n00bs, but he was not actually wrong.
Would you trust PostgreSQL for a high-volume high-turnover commercial project
Would you put your business's future in the hands of Larry Ellison?
My high volume business IS using PostgreSQl. The money not paid to Oracle (part) funds a programmer. One day, some money will even go to the PostgreSQL project.
Oracle has shafted me twice. I won't risk a third time.
This is actually AGAINST windows design guidelines and will result in the application not gaining Windows certification.Well it seems that MS apps are the worst offenders.
Actually, the all time worst offenders are
Some piece of Micrsoft sh*te popping up every time my machine boots and grabbing focus to tell me that a device driver didn't start while I am trying to enter my password. The piece of sh*te does not tell me what device driver, though."There is an error, but Im damd if I will tell you what it is!" - hell, thats got to be the way to alienate the most users! Are there secret penguin lovers in the Windows design team?
A stupid popup that tells me that I have not got a firewall on a machine on an intranet with only one other system on it - an embedded web server I am developing. Yeah, that really helps too!
Microsoft Certified - is that like certified insane or something?
Mozilla et al cannot lose, but MS can! MS is doomed if 10% of PC users realise that
(A) software can come from someone other than MS
(B)That the MS brand means Yugo, and not Rolls Royce
This news means point, and very possibly (B) also. (A) above has been reached.
As soon as they realise that MS is not the only company selling software, People start to ask if they can have an OS that is not 0wned in 3 minutes or less.
Anyone who asks me to fix a spyware infested computer is told that it would not have happened if they had a Mac or ran Linux. If they call me back a second time for the same problem, they better have backed up anything they want to keep, because the only solutions I offer are to install Linux or FreeBSD. If they want to go on using Windows, they had better call another family member.
I also bought a grey box for my dad. It came with a pirate copy of windows, and a promise that I could get a legit OEM copy from the car boot sale if I wanted to go legit.
Or, If I wanted the M/C to be connected to the Internet, I could load Linux and not have it 0wned in under 3 minutes.
The reality is 9/10 think Windows is part of the hardware, and dont know it could be changed.
If Walmart actually do sell their Linare based thing, it will be great - I can tell my relatives with viruses and spyware - "Its cos you bought the computer equivalent of a Yugo - got to walmart and get their Linare based thing if you are cheap, or (like my mum and my son) buy a Mac". I see no reason why anyone other than a gamer would buy windows unless
(A) his boss forces him (Mine got me a Windows laptop cos I kept using my T'pad with FreeBSD rather than use the corporate desktop with windows)
... Unless your definition of useful included job creation.
OOP can make any project employ more peole for longer while pretending to be cost effective. The fact that nobody outside the OOP world can graps what the stuff actually does is particularly beneficial. Its in the same league as COBOL when it comes to getting the most man-hours out of the contract.
One of the spammers quoted in the article claimed that he didn't care about the lawsuits... He was making too much money to stop.
Thus proving the case for cruel and inhuman torture as the appropriate punishment.
Spam will stop when the american anti-terrorist forces slam cruise missiles though the spammer's bedroom windows, and probably not before. As a government committed to the use of force for the pubic good, they need to do a bit more for the public good, and a bit less for the spammers good.
I would guess IGP means "Idiot Graphic Port". After all, VGA stood for "Very Graphic Adaptor", and IBM means "Its Being Mended".
There is no real requirement for acronyms to mean anything. They dont even have to be unique. Any set of three letters will do. Think how many organizations like to be CDC!
MS takes no reponsibility for anything. When someone manages to sue the f*** out of them for distributing that useless bunch of sh*te they call a "server edition" which wont run headless - then they will know what is what.
You might want to read up on FFSK. You get a much higher data rate for the same bandwidth. We did FFSK modems in software on crappy processors years ago. Sampling at 8 times data rate works quite well.
Or you could really go for it, and use a well known modem algorighm. People can do 56k modems in software - but you need to have an A to D resolution of more than one bit!
If using piezo, you might want to concentrate around 3khz or so for best response.
Its hard evidence that one of the world's leading semiconductor companies is run by people whose heads have yet to get a grip with ancient Roman technology.
Obviously, life in America drives you bonkers. Intel needs to send some of its high-ups to Europe for a holiday, so they can experience reality.
Yo! Its 2005 - CDC haven't made a decent computer since the 7600. That was before Seymour Cray left to set up his own company! I would guess that was in 1975 - almost 30 years ago!
I wouldn't worry about it too much. 90% of all statistics are made up on the spot, and at least 60% of the population lie when answering questionaires, (90% if the survey concerns sex or drugs). The remainder can't remember what they said 2 minutes later anyway.
My Nokia has an organiser and plays games (and not just "guess if the battery is flat"!)
PT Barnum observed "There's one born every minute." Clearly an under-estimate, since his field of observation was obscured by dense n00bs, but he was not actually wrong.

One price, no matter how many processors/cores/mips/MHz - Free as in Beer, and no need to fill in a ton of forms.
Beat that, Larry!

In the real world, many people are still running Win95 because that is what they are used to, and they don't want to run something new.
Many others are not connected to the internet, and live hundreds of miles from a phone socket.
Some parts of the world are not even American (yet).
He says this has been true since windows 1.0, and who an I to query a professional?
You obviously dont know about Algol68

My mother and my son both now use Macs.
Yes
And you probably won't find John the Baptist, either.

My personal favourine is FUBOL - F***d Up Beyond Other Languages. (A defective Snobol compiler).
Its probably a typo. They can't seriously expect anyone to Trust Windows.

Only because you are too stupid to realise that iPods running Linux cure Aids and cancer (but only in Penguins).
