Each machine, may it be Mac, NT, or Sun, on boot connects up either with an AFS server (NT/Sun) or AppleTalk server, and pulls a Makefile (the process is similar on the Macs). The Makefile is checked/run and files are replaced as need be. This includes McAffee Virus Shield patterns!!!

It looks like a GIMP design problem. Great. Oh well.

I belive you are well versed with EFF, ACLU, et al that you are a very effective advocate of them; however, since Peacefire lists you as a *member*, I see an extreme bias.
On the allegation:
I'm at least glad to hear that you have attempted contact with Abuse.Net and MAPS. Unfortuantely, I'm dismayed that MAPS didn't talk to you. MAPS is very open on Usenet, and you should post there (Google now allows posting).
There are about 241 spams from email and usenet involving Macromedia. I didn't attempt to filter if they came directly or were spamming Macromedia themselves. Aparently, MAPS was justified in listing with this proof.
Bennett Haselton has also lied to you. He's still talking on Usenet (news.admin.net-abuse.email. Drop in some time!). He is being clued in by many folk as we speak, while continuing to spread disinformation. Talk with someone else from PeaceFire to confirm Bennet's allegations. We (tinw) just don't belive him anymore.
The main questions (in my mind) are now: Has Peacefire contacted MAPS to get off the RBL? If so, Peacefire got swept into it by Media 3 w/o any notice that it was going to be in an RBL block, which Media 3 knew about. If not, then Peacefire knew that it was getting involved to smear MAPS. None the less, a ton of indivitual blacklists have just cut out Media 3.
Keep probing! There's more to this story and we (tinw) sysadmins on NANAE are continuing to probe!

I saw an annonymous coward post that Jamie's part of the RBL blocked Peacefire (blocked because it was moved by Media 3 w/o an proof of intent). I call this a conflict of intrest. And while Jamie's trying to atone for his mistakes, the association between him and Bannet Haselton(who's been spreading more lies about MAPS, Above.Net, et al) still says that Jamie needed to pass this story to another editor.

Reread the consitution *again*. It is only limited to the Goverment's interference. *NOWHERE* does it say that companies are covered by it. Peacefire can't get that little ditty of a fact registered through their mind, and aparently you can't either.
Now call Macromedia again and ask them if their "opt-in" lists verify the address by sending one e-mail to the person, which asks to confirm the subscription. Yahoo! Groups does this. Lyris does this. It prevents annonymous subscriptions, abuse of Macromedia's resources, and, what do you know, a MAPS RBL. If they say they don't do this "double" or "confirmed" opt-in, then they *deserve* to be in the MAPS RBL right next to Real Networks -- and I still have the spam from Real.
Next, call MAPS and get their position on it. They are very open. Aparently, you have not called them. Do so. Now.
Now, if you have any problems with all of this, and you've made the phone calls, write to us at news.admin.net-abuse.email on Usenet. We will give it to you in eazy-to-understand terms.

Opt-Out doesn't give proof of intent of subscriber
on
Opt-in vs. Opt-out
·
· Score: 2
Opt-out assumes that through various means, and without your consent, you will be getting spam until you tell them directly to stop. However, this doesn't means the spammer is honorable (Rule #3). Opt-out has been abused too much to be even considered a viable option.
Opt-in is better, but under a lawsuit (which has happened before), confirmed/double opt-in is best. Vendors catch all the joe jobs, the spoofs, and also have proof of their users intent to subscribe. This *should* hold up in court should someone sue after double-opting-in. (But IANAL)

While Katz gives a good overview of the latest Sino-American conflict, a little more research can bring a few items to light. I'll underscore this with a phrase:
CHINA IS AN OPEN EMAIL RELAY, WAITING FOR SPAMMERS TO RAPE IT REPEATEDLY
Go to Google's Groups (the old Deja news archive) and check out news.admin.net-abuse.email and news.admin.net-abuse.sightings. Look for China, and it's domain ".cn". Look at all the spam being bounced from it. Look at all the attempts to clue in China. Sysadmins and spam fighters have to imitate "freeing Taiwan" messages "erronously sent" to China's government just to shut them down or secure them.
With the continued cluelessness of China, a wall is being built, brick by brick, system by system, blocking any email comming from China. Eventually, a majority of it will be filled by the MAPS RSS and RBL -- filled in concrete. When it is complete, it will be the Greatest Virtual Wall of China ever completed.
Why should we apologize to China for it's lack of security as they "blunder" into the technological age? We want to help, but they continue to loose face over the Internet for being ignorant.
