    So far, I'm not seeing many niche Unixen out there, save for Minix (which I'm half-tempted to port to a virtual machine).

    The Ig Nobel Governors board has already heard about your topic from Brittan's govermental head of science. Their responce was akin to "How can you tell if it's funny or not? If Brittan is not allowed it's scientists to laugh at themselves, then it is a dark day in the land of the Queen."

    BTW, durring that year, three Brittish scientists came voluntarily to receive their Ig Nobels.

    MAPS is deliberately slow on the nominations, and rightfully so. However, some others are quick on the draw because of a clear and present danger.

    Besides, It's costing all of us to handle the spam. Dynamic DNS? Read: Dialup, someone's blocking on the DUL (and rightfully so). Smarthost instead.

    If it still has Nautalus (sp?), it's useless. Nautalus is useless for those who still like to keep their file manager seperate from the desktop.

    That would assume that Adobe's ebook software would or could not interface with existing screen-reader software, nor it would/could interface with any speech synth software. Mighty big IF there.

    But if you can prove that it doesn't interface, would it be safe to say that the DMCA have a hole or two punched into it the size of a Mack truck?

    Seriously.

    And yes, I'm a bit insane. It helps in coding up a webcomic strip generator in Perl while drawing more strips staring herm characters in normal non-sexual situation while trying to keep the science in science-fiction and not getting any influences from the screwed-up world that is Star Trek.

    It's too bad B5 ended after five seasons... but then, that's by design.

    Well, first, debug the whole thing beforehand. By then, you'll find out about it and will be able to accomidate.

    Now, I'm unsure on Token Ring. I'm taking that it runs on coax cabling and you have to be in a loop for every computer to work. UGH! I'm unsure of the protocalls used with it, but if it can run TCP/IP on it, you may be able to get away with a gateway computer (which does TokenRing <==> Ethernet.)

    Here's the latest from Maryland, which is "right next door" to DC:

    * Maryland is tightening security all throught the state.
    * AMTRAK Baltimore Penn Station is shut down.
    * BWI Airport is accepting landings only, no flights out.
    * All schools are closing, and Annapolis's (state capital) MD State Circle (state capital) is closed to all but emergency traffic.
    * State Police are asking folks to limit phone use, both landline and cell.

    I was reading through what PowerPC 2002 was offering and it kept reminding me "Palm already had that for some time.... Palm offers that now... Palm has it already..." Geesh. And to think Microsoft itself with Windows is slowly becoming Unix back in 1970!!!

    There is a baltimore area HAM club, which is part show and sale. I don't know the URL, though, but I belive it's part of ARRL and they show every year at Timonium Fair Grounds (From DC take a Amtrak Train from Union station to Baltimore Penn Station (unless MARC runs on the day you're there), then MTA Lightrail from Penn to Mt. Royale, then switch to the Hunt Valley light rail to go to Timonium fairgrounds).

    Market Pro Shows (http://www.marketproshos.com) does computer shows and sales, but they're for modern equipment. They have shows all over Maryland and Virginia. The closest to the DC area would be New Carrolton.

    I've been to both. The HAMfest is nalstolgic, and I been able to get a base for an old Compaq laptop there.

    Juristiction: The act of cracking was done in Russia, by a company who employed Dimitry and sold the resulting program to the FBI.

    Juristiction part 2: Even though the act of speaking on the research into the cracking was done inside the US, the FBI complaint was sworn to the actual cracking itself. The arrest was illegal to begin with.

    Legality: Because of the First Admendment, such research done anywhere on Sol 3 (Earth) and it's resulting report can not generate a legal arrest. The crime of speaking publically about an encription method is not a crime at all. Even ITAR export regulations say that printed source code of PGP is legal to export, while the source on a disk is illegal.

    PalmOS Desktop: $230 (comes with Palm IIIxe)

    Lets see now, $79 verses $349? Even running Windows in VMWare is expensive!!!

    Why didn't they just port POSE from Palm to WinCE? The code's GPL'ed, and already works for Win32, Unix (w/fltk) and MacOS, with full capabilities. It also already works with PalmOS 1, 2, 3.x, and 4. Why?

    I also think there's already a Palm-on-CE emulator out there that's a port...

    KeenSpot Enterntainment bans popup ads on it's KeenSpot and KeenSpace networks, and encourages reporting popup ads on it's forums. It's always been their policy to thwap advertizers who want to use popup ads. It looks like they were ahead of the times in this respect.
