I liked both shows a lot. They were both decently true to the comics, much more show than X-men (Morph , anyone?).
I think poor marketing killed both of those shows--FF was only shown on Sunday mornings where I lived.
And I think the brand is all they should get. It's clear that branding works sufficiently well to base a business on because of the fact that companies like Designer Imposters haven't put the big designers fragrance divisions out of business. So why should they get more protection at all? All this protectionism is getting ridiculous.
Although, this of course is a material, and materials themselves could last much longer than any particular structure. I'm sure all those man made diamonds GE makes will be around for far longer than 10000 years
On the otherhand, the education level of our (American) workers doesn't justify paying the premium on them over foreign workers of comparable educational level. He's 100% right when he says our educational system is fucked up and that something needs to be done to switch things around.
This coming from the same company who said they would let XP users with invalid keys upgrade to SP2, because they care about security "so much". Evidently consitancy isn't Microsoft's strong suit
Has he paid back his debt to society? Sasser was released just about a year ago, and the kid got a legal slap on the wrist. And now he's got a cushy job. Mitnick wasn't allowed to even be near a computer for years. I fail to see the similarity
Exactly. I think the best thing Square could do is to build off of games such as FF7, FF3 (4), and Chrono Trigger, widely considered some of the best games of all time. No need to go crazy on new battle systems and what not; I think many fans of the series would just die for extensions of these classic games with only slight modifications. I know I would
That's a laugh. Do you think the big time distributers are just going to step aside and let the piles and piles of money whither up after there business model is obsolete?
Apparantly you haven't been paying attention to the music industry lately.
I don't know, I guess I'm just from the camp where wrong means wrong, and there are no "degrees" of wrongness. In my way of thinking, you can't substitute something that's more harmless for something else to rationalize that it's right, since it's wrong also, anyway
Holy cow! Let's put this into perspective. Stealing a bag of chips affects the proprietor of a store ever so slightly. Releasing a worm on the internet affects everyone worldwide. The two crimes are hardly even comparable. Sure the kid screwed up, but he screwed up big time.
It's kinda like speeding. Speeding is only a speeding ticket until you lose control and kill a family of five, then it become vehicular manslaughter.
And neither is speeding. Think of why speeding laws exist in the first place: because it's considered dangerous to the other people on the road it exceed the speed limit. Show me a real situation where it's absolultely necessary to speed to feed your family. It doesn't exist. In short, you're putting other people needlessly at danger to feed your own family.
I don't know. I would argue that the kid owes the world a great deal more than 158,000. That's hardly a deterrent to someone doing something that bad once again.
X.Org is proof of Open Source advantages. XFree86 was a failing project, floundering under incompetent leadership. Under normal, closed source projects, this would spell doom for the software.
And yet they would continue to release new versions years apart with only superficial differences, and all of their future initiatives would have high hopes, but those hopes would soon fall, as every goal would be axed one by one. And they would lose ground to rival projects which they at one point dismissed. However hope would not die, due to massive political clout, virtual monopoly power, and an increasingly large patent portfolio.

Yeah, while my school (Iowa State) isn't held in as high esteem as Harvard, we've been hearing the call for patent reform as well.

Well not that I know much about PS2 hardware, but perhaps you could throw a USB hardrive on the USB port

I've never read anything to suggest that Gary Kildall committed suicide at all. Look him up in the all knowing Wikipedia
That's what they all say

But that's OK I guess. Sounds like a good book, albeit way over my head

That's exactly what I was trying to say! I don't know what's with all the sympathy for the devil

Well, shit, without punitive damage, I might as well cause civil harm to someone else if I just have to pay them back when it's all said and done

Killing is not okay regardless. Neither is stealing.

And people want them to send nuclear waste to space! Ha!
Amen to that!

Anyone see where I'm going with this?
Wow, where do you live?
You'd be a fool to think that any amount of monitoring will stop a kid from doing something stupid.
