It's too bad these Reps won't have the balls to send subpoenaes to the CEO's of these companies, drag them in front of congress, and find them in contempt of congress for refusing to comply.
The American government no longer matters. Welcome back to the Fuedal ages everyone! CEO's and boards are the land owners, lawyers are the knights. Get back to work you serfs.
I wonder if it would be better to say that you don't have your drivers license? Then what can the officer do? Is there anything the officer could do if he found out that you did have it? Clearly this is what happens when you decline to show an id, so what is the best course of action in this situation?
The problem I have is that like many here on slashdot I do happen to know a thing or two about computers. To put it plainly, when your big evidence is a computer model, then I will continue to wait until the evidence is something more substantial.....
You know a thing or two about computers? Do you know a thing or two about the models that were created? Let me fill you in on something. These models aren't just computer generated models. They are based on input variables, regression, mathmatics, and statistical data based on hard facts from observations.
I'll be the first to admit that the models could be wrong because they are made by humans. But can you tell me the logic behind dismissing all of the evidence and data collected because it's based on computer modeling? Can you tell us what is wrong with the model methodology? Or perhaps what is wrong with the computers themselves, since you know a thing or two about computers?
Or perhaps you can tell us what type of modeling you would use?
I can't believe how polar these issues get. People, even if the models aren't completely accurate, they are indicators of expected outcomes. The bottom line is that when carbon dioxides in the atmosphere are up, temperature is up. Wether or not it is human caused or not there is cause for concern for the Earth warming.
If the goal is to find a life-long mate, smart people should approach sex with scientific methodology.
In the scientific method, you can only prove something by disproving everything else.
Therefore, as a teenager, you should have sex with as many to all the teenage girls possible in order to find your life partner. Afterall, if you only have sex with one or two, instead of all of them, you'll never have scientifically proven she is the one for you.:)
If you read the last paragraph of my post, you'll note I agree with you. The point of the post wasn't to actually create said law, but to outline the irony of bringing up past excuses for current misdeeds.
Elitist indeed. Have you read the way your posts come off lately?
Wow! And the Clinton administration would let Dr. Carmona speak out of needle sharing programs for drug users. Remember Joycelyn Elders?
In the spirit of the Godwin's Law meme, I suggest a new meme for use on slashdot.
The law states: As a discussion addressing the topic of the Bush administration grows in size, the probability of comparing the Clinton administration activities to excuse Bush administration activities grows to one.
Following the traditional use of Godwin's law, I suggest that any mention of the Clinton administration when discussion the Bush administration results in automatic loss of the debate for the person bringing up the Clinton administration.
I also suggest that person have their head examined and study the process of logic. Repeat after me friends: Past mistakes do NOT excuse current mistakes.
As an aside, it's sad that we have to define these types of laws, and that our public education system does not encourage the type of thinking where everyone shares this mentality. Us vs Them groupthink is very damaging to any society.
The temperature of the air was way more to do than the temperature of the gasoline. Air is what makes your engine work, not gasoline. Gasoline just ensures that the air combusts evenly. Colder air is denser air and makes for more power per volume when compared to hotter air. This change in air temperature is significant and anyone with a forced induction car can attest to how their vehicle will behave on a cold night vs a warm day.
Gasoline temperatures will affect the energy density of the fuel sure, but it makes no significant difference in engine performance.
As a result, customers will go to the first dealer, look at the boats and take the classes, then go buy the cheap boat from the second dealer. Eventually, the first dealer either goes out of business or just stops offering all those extra services. If the manufacturer can set a minimum retail price, he can stop the second dealer from doing this free-riding. Now, the two dealers are still competing with each other, but they're doing it on something other than price -- they're doing it on service. So, consumers may get longer dealer warranties, or dealers may offer free storage or maintenance.
Ever heard of the expression "Buyer Beware"? How is it the responsibilty of the manufacture to regulate dealer tactics in a free market? It's not. The consumer should do their own research and if they get fooled into buying a product with inferior service, then it's their fault. Here's another expression for you: "A fool and his money are soon parted".
I am not a programmer, so maybe I'm way off base here, but how complicated could this code be?
I can't think of any reasons why Microsoft is being difficult here. I can't think of any complex algorithms you'd have to invent and therefore protect to display and count votes.
All you need functions for: Security Wrapper. ID voter. Display Choices. Input Choices Into Database.
How is that going to be so complicated that it needs trade secret protection? Or is the final fucntion like, Collect Choices and Voter IDs into secondary database to be sold to politicians at the highest bidder?
Can any programmers tell us what complicates a voter system so much that microsoft feels the need to protect itself?
You DO have a Warranty if you purchased one. Complete Care warranty is an insurance policy against things like dropping your laptop in a pool. Your hardware warranty is still intact.
which tends to suggest that the administration has no clear idea what is actually driving the attacks or why they're happening.
Of course they have a clear idea what drives the attacks. It's terrorism! It always has been, always will be, and... err whats that you say? Saddam who? Never heard of him. I'm sure he was a terrorist though. That's why we went after Iraq, you know... because of all them damn terrorists. Don't you watch your TeeVee?
These memos are probably the work of terrorists is my guess.
Or the wankel, or Rotary, engine which is even used today. While the rotary might not get better gas mileage than a piston engine, it certain produces more power per displacement than a piston engine. Furthermore, the newest rendetion of the wankel, the Renesis, developed by Mazda already uses some of the benefits that this engine supposedly does. Namely with the exhaust ports.
The design of the piston engine is flawed. Moving up and down robs your engine of momentum and is just plain silly. Going around in circles produces much more power. If only the Wankel engine, or better yet, the quasiturbine engine had as much R/D put into them as piston engines, we'd have a lot better combustion based engines.
Wouldn't YOU love your pet robot that sniffs IEDs and takes a few detonations in its face for you hence saving your life?
No I would not. Because it's just a piece of technology. Behind every piece of technology there is one or more humans behind it. "Love" and honor them, not a peice of metal with some circuits.
That's really close. The chances of it supporting life (what we know if it, anyway) are propbably low. The planet will be bombarded by radiation and magnetic interference. Not to mention that close it'll be tidal locked like some of the Moons in the Jovian system, which would make dough out of the crust. That planet better have one hell of a magnetic field and atmosphere if it plans to support life.
I agree, however, they didn't have enough of a sample of a chi-square. Or an fitted yx ANOVA for that matter. But yes, any kind of coeffecient using an R or R squared is definitely not the appropriate test in this case.
It always bugs me that they don't even try and collect data to fit a normal distribution or do any proper means testing. But oh well, it's TV, thems the breaks.
That headline is utter rubbish and sensationalist. Microsoft is not giving anyone clues to create exploits. The wording makes Microsoft sound intentionally malicious. While Microsoft is pretty god damn malicious, they aren't out there trying to help exploit writers.
The headline should instead read something like Hackers Create Exploits Using Microsoft Published information. This IS what hackers do after all. They read documentation and manuals. They find out how things work with all the available information. They social engineer. Trying to pin this on Microsoft is childish.
Now I love a good story like anyone. Planescape is still one of my favorite games of all time. Half life, Half life 2... good games, good gameplay, good story. Freespace2... GREAT gameplay and arguably the best story for any space shooter out. Privateer, good gameplay and a story that rivaled Freespace2.
But other games that completely lack a story can be just as fun. Fun for other reasons, such as open endedness. Or technical gameplay.
A great example of open ended and technical gameplay would be Gran Turismo. I played GT3 for hours and hours. I like cars and racing a lot, so it was a great game for me. The physics are pleasing. The cars were fun. The modding aspect, while highly unrealistic, was still enjoyable. When I did everything there was to do in the game, I could still continue to play the heck out of that game by thinking up new games to play with it. My roomate and I would play GT for hours, seeing who could make the best replay of drifting or fancy driving instead of time trials. Or we'd race eachother in the crappiest cars we could make or a myriad of other games we made up in that game.
The point is I guess if you lack a story but have compelling enough gameplay and open ended gameplay, it's just a toy. Toys don't come with stories, you have to make them up yourself. Which can be just as fun as being guided through a wonderful story that someone else wrote.
Imagination, it is not just for game developers anymore!
In related news the Republican National Convention has appointed a newly cloned Hitler as the RNC Deputy CEO of public affairs. When reached for comment, RNC Spokesperson Richard Head had this to say:
"When we heard that the Dems got the RIAA's Jenni Engebretsen, we knew we couldn't be out done. I mean, that's pretty evil, and their Democrats for cyring out loud. We knew, as Republicans, we could do one better.".
Republican scientists recently discovered how to clone dead people using a technique described as "Unfathomable Dark Magic" (UDM). The technique is said to use DNA samples, a centerfuge, and the bones of still born children.
Associated Press Dew Shbag contributed to this report.
I'm getting really sick of all the comments that are pointing out previous occurances that are similar. Things went missing during the whitewatever investigation. Ok, we get it. Clinton fired his attorney's. Yup. Big deal, he did so and actually got senate confirmation like he's supposed to.
A past precident does not excuse current mistakes! If I walk up to you and punch you in the face and I get away with it, that doesn't make it right for me to walk up again and kick you in the stomach. Wrong is wrong. I'm disgusted by the lack of a sense of justice around here.
Most presidents replace all of the U.S. Attorney's working for them at some point. Clinton didn't do anything different than most Presidents. However, with the Bush administration there is one key point that seperates his case from the rest.
Before Bush, when a U.S. Attorney was fired, the President would appoint another to take their place. However this had to be approved by the Senate. Checks and balances. However, a provision in the Patriot Act that was revised allows the Attorney General to appoint interim U.S. Attorneys for indefinite terms when vacancies arise, without Senate confirmation.
Legislation has been since passed to return Senate confirmation to the apointment of U.S. Attorneys. However, Bush fired and hired all new U.S. Attorneys without any Senate involvement. They just happened to time the firing's all all the U.S. Attorney's during a Senate recess, MID TERM (unprecidented in it of itself) and hire a bunch of buddies of Carl Rove and what not.
When people started asking completely innocent questions about this suspect situation, things didn't smell right. Things went missing. Very meticulous type a personality people suddenly forgot
details they should have remembered.
Neither Clinton or Bush are one of "my guys". I don't really like either of them. But the Bush administration is clearly showing that it is either dishonest or inept at managing day to day operations of the administration. And what's worse is it is starting to look like they are completely inept at being dishonest.
I don't think it matters who's next in line. Even if Cheney would be worse, impeaching Bush would show that the separation of powers can still be applied.
Besides, impeaching Bush does not automatically mean he is removed from office. I remind you that Clinton was impeached for similar reasons (perjury) and remained in office.
At this point I don't even think it matters whether or not the White House is being honest with the investigation committee. If they are being honest, then they are incredibly inept and don't deserve to run this country. If they aren't being honest they are a bunch of filthly liars who don't deserve to run this country. Same thing with all the intelligence goofs with the Iraq invasion. It doesn't matter much if they were lying about the intelligence or intentionally misleading the Senate. Either way, they are either dishonest or inept.
Choosing not to impeach and seek justice based on the "next guy" is incredibly silly and un-American. Even if the decision is made to remove Bush from office, let Cheney be the President and let him be under the same scrutiny I say. This administration should not get away with being inept or dishonest, and they certainly shouldn't get away with being inept at being dishonest.
If wasted time is a cost, but not a visible one then you aren't measuring your productivity correctly. Or you don't have it tied to a spending cost correctly.
There are times when measuring every little productivty cost is a waste of time, but it's hardly a hidden one.
The American government no longer matters. Welcome back to the Fuedal ages everyone! CEO's and boards are the land owners, lawyers are the knights. Get back to work you serfs.
No not really. You just rotate the drive plate around the vessel and flip the entire thing round.
I wonder if it would be better to say that you don't have your drivers license? Then what can the officer do? Is there anything the officer could do if he found out that you did have it?
