not i. all i use it for is to watch southpark episodes. sans commercials ^^watches his back^^
but what really would be a big help is if ogg was used nearly as often as mp3s. then, people may start an exodus toward it. but till then... it's more of a sideshow, a little used download.
Are we included if we build controls systems for machinery? we run cat5, have offline-access installed, program, design controls systems, design hardware, install, debug, service, maintain, whatnot. would you count that as a Sys Admin?
Businesses aren't geared toward the hacker/knowledgable group. They're geared toward the people who barely know how to set the time on their clocks, who just pick up a DVD and assume it works. Now, if too many of them have the problem of something not working... and i mean a lot of them... them alternative means *cough hacking cough* would probably have a noticable impact on their customer base. and thus cash flow. and thus, they care. that's what it'd take.
have you spell-checked and/or previewed your post? last time i checked, 'suprised' had two 'r's in it. so don't be knockin the editors fewl, even though they may karma-whore me down... ^shrug^
yes, Faster Better Cheaper. But, using this idea, to explore the Heliosphere, and beyond, we'd be more efficient to send a spacecraft made specifically for that purpose, instead of byproducts of other missions.
By this though, we could send a craft out with more fuel, instrumentation meant for that particular mission, and it would probably go faster, given that would be a focus of the mission.
would you rather have 20 craft study 20 planets and astroids and meteors in detail, with specially tailored craft, or 5 probes studying 4 planets/'roids each, but not getting such a tailored investigation. personally, i don't think weather instruments would do much good when studying haley's comet...
but you're right. the business mentality is just hitting the internet, just as it hit every other industry in the last couple centuries. think wal mart, mega-steel, railroads, general closures of small businesses...
Actually, the best example is land. if you "squat" on someone's land for say, 15 years, it's legally yours. example: if your neighbor and you mow closer to your house than the actual property line, then one random decade you decide to claim that strip back, you're fscked. it's legally his, since you never said anything. this may be a more local application, but it's an example of how some property laws work.
map editors, like for starcraft and the such, are better than you may think. just imagine what they have to think of when first making those fledgling moves to create their own universe. they must think about how placing objects and obstacles will affect gameplay. this helps a child think empathetically (see things from another's point of view, for you 12 y/o/.'ers).
i have a nephew, and they let him play outside in the dirt, he has his over-sized legos, and they still build things in pre-school with glue and popsicle sticks and painted macaronni. it's not dead to play with stuff like that, just not as common.
i don't see people making their dolls and toys like they used to. i bet the forums of the 40s talked about how "back in my day, we had to make our own lincoln logs by whittling them down with our pocket knives!" bah, it's nothing new, just an aspect of the changes our generations have been going through.
oh my god, i cracked up here at work when i read that... stoppit, or i'll get fired for reading/. all the time.
seriously, this is awesome. maybe they'll replace DVDs, since we'll "all have HDTV's by then", (reminiscent of people in the 60s thinking we'd be flying to work by now... buy anywho), it could replace DVHS as a top-quality, insane movie experience.
or maybe we'll buy one of those instead of 30 DVDs for the entire collection of LoTR!
one of my crazy ideas "if i won the lottery" was to just drive around the country with my g/f or whoever, just surfin the internet, drivin around and having fun. how much would i pay for this? quite a bit if i use it that much
it looks like the re-added scenes are ones which just make the details of the book stand out. not big plot-benders of course, but the things that really give a bit more depth, a little more insight. i'm looking forward to downloading the divx rip of it (poor college kid here...):P
Actually, you can be convicted of repressing someone's civil liberties when you kill someone. happened in the south during the end of that whole "let's kill black people and white people who love them" time in the 60s.
oh, and "Attempts to cause death are punishable by up to life in prison". you have to be trying to kill someone with your computer. so, if i slash your throat with my NIC, does that count?
slashdot has a post about alltheweb a couple weeks ago. quite informative and interesting. although many tried to knock it, being google loyalists, i now find that for the rare strange searches that don't show up on google, or have not-so-great results, altheweb can be the answer.
alltheweb basically has more sites searched, although google still defends that they have a better algorithm. depends on what you're looking for.
i must also defend some of the selling of spots. they market to what you want to buy, for the most part. search for pr0n, you get pr0n ads. search for a textbook on hyperconvoluted differential equations, you get a calculus search on amazon. not perfect, but close enough, really.

this could be awesome for those rat-packed college dorms that aren't wired to a uni-network. hella coole!

i agree wholefartedly.

HAHA windows crashing! oh, now i'll be trolled for this. and, oh my, they modded it up more. how asinine can you GET?!
there used to be that old trick of freezing your laptop to get the battery to last longer... might want a disclaimer to NOT do that
for the love of god (or whatever in this day of the US gov't) can you say hella lame?

i guess twice, but give it a couple weeks and i may be proven wrong.

haha, you got modded down. oh, and there'd be stops along the way *wink* *wink*.
too bad it wouldn't go rural routes too, cause all we can get is dial-up and sattelite... ^sad face^
