I use Ajax in a few applications and there is no problem with the "back"-button if you use cookies to save the state.
For example: I'm developing a (german) flirt-portal, which makes extensive use of ajax and google maps.
Each interaction and it's result is stored in a cookie. If a user changes the zoomlevel or recenters the map, the new values are stored in a cookie. Next time the user visits the back, the values of the cookie are read back. Works perfect.
You may check this out: www.citybeat.de/flirt [citybeat.de]. Zoom into the map, select something from the menu, leave the map and return, you will see your last settings.

I've added a live statistics-page for my website. I sit in germany and we have actually 20,89%, IE has 71,93%.

This pic is a little bit more interesting, it shows the distribution of the browsers for each day. Surprisingly I see a loss for firefox in the last days, dont know why.

Some time ago, the stations found out that you can watch TV on your computer even if you don't have a TV set. That's why this fee is being introduced. It won't affect many people, as their household is most likely to have a TV already. The only people affected will be those who have a computer, but who don't have a TV. They aren't that many. I don't have a TV, for example, but my flatmate has one, and therefore I don't have to pay extra. (We'll split the fee, however.)
This is not true. In 2007 every company has to pay for computers, which are connected to the internet. This is a big problem, especially for cyber cafes or small media agencies.
The 1 million downloads are only from english-speaking people. The german version for example is not translated yet. I guess that a few 100,000 users alone in germany, austria and swiss would download the final version.
So the counter would be much higher, if other languages were finished.
Hello Larry,
is it true, that the idea of Perl6 was born during a meeting at O'Reilly's ? Tim O'Reilly: I want to switch completly from Windows to OS X. This will not become cheap and the edition falls Larry: Uhm.. a powerbook would be a nice thing. How about this: I will change the syntax of perl a way, all perl-books have to be rewritten. How about that? Tim O'Reilly: You are not only a programming genius, no, you are also a financial genius.
;) ciao, Hermi
Parrot should be more important than Perl6-Syntax

Hello Larry,
it would be perhaps better, to switch the portions in the perl6-project: Give "parrot" the main role and perl6 the supporting role (means: only change few things of the syntax). Perl5 programs should be compiled by parrot. This would be a winning combination and a valuable contribution to the open source community.
What do you think about this?

Hello Larry,
if you would develop a complete new language, not with perl6 in mind, how would it look like? What would be the design goals? Would it be total object oriented?
Thank, Hermi
If the RIAA will suceed, perhaps they will try to block a few common known ports like 4662 for edonkey or 1214 for kazaa. Why shouldnt they try to block that next?
"You know, my son, in the beginning of the internet you could surf to every page you wanted..."
"Really??"
hey, a few weeks ago you could win money for a great idea, how to extend google in an attractive way. here is mine:
every time, an article is posted to slashdot, google will be automaticly informed a few seconds before (with SOAP) to fetch the links. This would be a great cowork between google and slashdot and i could finaly read all the articles;)

Thanks you for your answer, i don't understand how it is possible, that the kernel right now is not preemptive? Is it possible, with the old kernel, that one process will consume all cpu time. Is it possible, that the process will not "give back" to other processes ?
ciao, Hermi
I don't understand the difference between preemtive and the normal way (btw: which?).
Could someone explain this to me? What are the advantages?
Thanks,
Hermi
The reload Button in konqueror should be changed .

The reload Button (2 green arrows, nice) should be changed, because a german company ("Der grüne Punkt") is using a symbol exactly like that.
Who knows, one day Microsoft buys this company only to sue KDE;)

The counter, at the bottom of the page, is interesting...
;-)
First time I looked at it, 5 minutes ago, the auction was 308.000 times viewed.
Now, 11:36 pm in germany, 318.441 times.
24 hours more and we know more about the slashdot-effect

Is it possible, to run cheap or free Windows anti-virus-software on a mail-server?
What about the perfomance, if this task is possible?
1. Build a nuclear power plant 2. Let it explode 3. wait a few years 4. let it become a tourist attraction 5. profit!!!
The website is online and survived a good-old slashdot!? Hello!? Where are the script-kiddys if you need them ...
If they (SCO) secure their intellectural property that easy, they don't have to complain about robbery ...
I would like to see a log-file. Is this planned?
I would like to see a scripting.slashdot.org for news about perl, python, ruby etc.
Is someone (CmdrTaco) thinking about this?
