no.. halflife would be quake II.5, UT has *MUCH* better graphics than quake II. Frankly, I'm busy enough fragging that it doesn't matter that "ooh..it can render curved surfaces." the gameplay in UT is too good for that.

Xplane already lets you do this. Even in the linux version!
was done at Brandeis University. There they developed robots through an evolutionary process and a rapid prototyping machine. It was called the "GOLEM" project. The site seems to be broken, but this is the google cache.
this demo went well I see...on the other hand. There are plenty of ways this is different from an actual broadcast situation,
They used a studio deck wired straight to the projector, so the signal did not have to go over the air and thus began in better shape.
They used their own equipment, thus you had no idea what specs (resolution, etc.) they were using. After all, HD has resolutions from 480 to 1080 lines, progressive and/or interlaced.
If you're going to be doing work with premiere, you shouldn't be using the optiplex. Their precision line is the workstation line, meant for this kind of heavy duty stuff. In fact, a while back, they won a lineup for best edit machine, beating out even IBM.
But intel destroyed any notion of being a good chip manufacturer when it artificially inflated the clock speed of the P4 by sacrificing performance. Now even a 1.56 ghz athlon xp can smoke the fastest p4 (2.0 ghz) in most situations.
My gym teacher in elementary school was named Mr. CORBETT and there is a CAPTAIN VIDEO store near my grandmother's where you can rent movies for::GASP:: 5 DOLLARS!
This kind of proprietary technology is one more way corporations are attempting to control the internet. They move from open standards to ones they design. I am surprised that it was not mentioned in the article, for if Microsoft is successful with.NET, we will be forced to use their proprietary technology to access resources that previously were open (as they recently did with the msn gaming zone and has been done for a while with hotmail, etc.) Though most sites that use.NET and passport are MS sites, if it spreads beyond that...::shudders::
I'm not exactly a developer, so could someone please explain to me what this software is meant to do? I take it that it is meant to help work out bugs... but how?
or you could just log in as root and see when it said you had last logged in. if they went su from another account, check for activity on those accounts. Anyways, it's much easier to "root" windows: slip on a trojan.

Funding cuts that make it impossible to do research should not be made, since this is a research platform, after all. If they cut funding to this, just like they did with DS1 (story earlier today), then the entire scientific commmunity is going to be pissed. What is the point of putting up a multi-billion dollar space station if not to do something more than have it just sit there, with no experiments being done? That ticking sound is the time before this thing plunges into the ocean years from now. the only question is "what do we do with it until then?"

three words: Star trek four.
Long version: the main idea was that a long range space probe came looking for humpback whales on earth, but there weren't any, so the enterprise had to go back in time to the '80s and get some. Hence star trek HAS dealt with alien space probes (plus spock curses...multiple times)
Strap a couple of those ion engines to a ball cockpit, stick on a couple of lasers, solar panels, and a reactor and you got yourself one mean mother! [dun dun dun dundahdun dundahdun...]
"without ever resorting to anything...gratuitous"
Have you even seen the latest season? It is full of things in bad taste. A man commits suicide, marge is portrayed as a total fool, even dumber than homer, and homer finds a rotting and decaying corpse. Need I say more?
You use a DELL, and dare to call yourself an elitist? SHAME ON YOU!
hebrew uses letters to represent numbers. sorta 1337speak in reverse.

I got your data safety right here. They answer to nobody, since they have their owm government.

CONGRATULATIONS! you got e (2.718282) to six places.
A story that beowulf cluster posts will be relevant to!

You got a pump shotgun? I'm still waiting on my shocklance and jetpack. (move please!...ZZZZZT!)
I read the article, but its a bit hard to navigate the linked site, and the info i'm looking for is pretty hard to find on there.

Ok...I've read the link, and the comments, and there is STILL something I don't understand about this: Why is it called the "Trojan" coffee machine?

All the links to their site are broken, and I doubt its slashdotted
So... How long 'til we hit a few yottabytes?

interesting, because I did not see an xbox logo in the GTA3 ad (which I have seen repeatedly)
