AOL (as stated in the article) climbed to a user base of more than 35 million so thats 170,000 out of 35 mil.. which is approximately 0.48% of their total customer base not a big number just saying "less than 1 percent".. but it IS a huge number.. 170,000 and decreasing probably
Bull f-in crap its "interesting" its an fp whether its for firefighters, communists, your local geek who lost his computer, or just for the sake of first posting a.. as they say.. a first post is a first post is a first post
How is $3.99 a reasonable price compared to DVD/VHS rentals? I'm assuming its US currency, which works out to over $6 canadian (scary isn't it?). Only new releases here are $5.99. AND they're 2 day rentals. Older releases are $2.99-$3.99 and you get them for a full week. So lets see, most people can watch these only on their puny monitors (17-21") while i can watch mine on a 52" screen. And some of us pay for bandwidth per meg/gig (not me thankfully, once again.. want cheap bandwidth? come to canada!) so the 700 megs it takes you to download the movie might end up costing you more than $3.99 plus the time it takes, etc. etc.

That's true, you have a point. However every time you buy a CD, or go to a movie, or eat at a restaurant you feed a hungry person too. Maybe not someone who is starving, but you are using services that some people make money. From the rich bastards who made the movie/CD, to the big companies distributing those services (recording companies, big restaurant chains, independent restaurant owners), to the poor people working to provide those services to you. You are feeding someone, it just may not be the people you think of first when you consider the "starving children".
The "Freebie" is a preview of the services, which means you only get the first 30 seconds of a song. Yep, that's right.. ONLY 30 seconds. Oh, and they don't have The Beatles.. common people, get with the times!:p
Yea, I had a similar experience. I found myself in my house, in my bed, yet for about half an hour I couldn't for the life of me figure out where I was. Once I finally DID figure out I was at my own house, it took me a considerable amount of time to figure out how and why I got here, and if I woke up any family member in the process. I had difficulties thinking straight.. I'd start a thought, lose it after a few seconds then spend the next 10-15 minutes thinking about what I was thinking. Of course, this was due to certain circumstances I won't discuss, but hey.. its all good right?:)
I don't know about this. I can see my arm getting pretty tired after a while (LOTS of hours) of swinging and pointing with the mouse. That's the advantage of a desk mouse, you can rest your arm.
Then again, lots of geeks wouldn't find this a problem due to the extensive use of their right arm, what's a little more going to do?:p
umm infinite bandwidth????
uhh no..
also you probably are assuming that coroporation can support EVERYONE doing about 50mbps traffic at peak times.. everyone in you'r neighborhood, or city, or however it would be divided up
if there's a 1 in 10 chance some innocent passanger will get nailed, i sure hope they got their apology speeches well prepared
i mean seriously.. who wouldn't be pissed if they got nailed like that? and with a 1 in 10 chance they will, there'll be a whole lot more pissed people in the world
at least i wish my job involved people who have some BASICE skills.. and a bit of common sense
but that's too much to wish for.. i guess i'll just go back to wishing they made stronger tylenol
please donate your 2400 baud modem now to help out this cause:)
pretty good that they're making this documentary, it'll help some people (such as myself) learn of what the old days were like.. that is, of course, hoping they do a good job of it..
Although the article does bring up a few points, it is HORRIBLY written.
I don't mean any disrespect to excite, but that article is just badly written style-wise.
Sure, the gov't can employ more people to go through the emails. But that's just wasting even more money on useless tasks such as this.
As someone else mentioned, its probably a good assumption that the terrorists encode their email. So how exactly is this filter supposed to work on that email? Maybe the gov't has a backdoor they're not telling us about? Although I doubt that, i wouldn't be surprised with anything these days.
imho this will just be a big waste of time, and another excuse to use carnivore..
Isn't it ironic they make money off of reverse engineering and not get caught for it?
Yet someone else that does the identical thing, only doesn't actually get "cheat codes" per se, and doesn't make money, (like hacking a dvd player so it'll play dvds with different region codes) is highly looked down on as being bad...
it all depends on your personality as to what will make you comfortable. the best thing to do is to experiment with differnent things
i personally couldn't code crap while listening to classic music, or anything slow (i do enjoy listening to classic music, but just not while coding)
reason for this, is to code i need to be hyper. caffeine helps, but so does some heavy riffs or fast pumpin goa..
but your best bet is to bring a dozen different cds, and listen to em.. see which one puts you into that special state where you can crank out code like a monkey on a typewriter
oh your internet isn't working sir? ok, that's no problem, we'll just email you the correct steps to fix this, and if you'r still having problems just go to our website, and visit the help portion
