It will also allow chip makers to incorporate small pieces of their discovery into chips that will hitting the market relatively soon. It is just news and if it is too forward in its thinking for you then disregard.

In order to get a real functioning gaming enviroment on Linux we have to go back to the begining. Some of the greatest games ever made where made by 2 or 3 guys in a basement in like 6-8 months. Examples are Civ 1 RailRoad Tycoon Frogger Blue Max. People need to start making games exclusively for Linux. Granted huge multi-million dollar budgets are out but that is what makes games great. Once there are a few games on Linux that people can't get on Widows then people will begin to migrate. First it will be the crazy hardcore gamers then others will follow once people realize the benifits of running an os that you can customize.

I wouldn't have any problem with ATI's drivers if the had prefaced what they had done and allowed you to check/uncheck the "optimizations". It may have defeated the purpose but I still think people would have ran benchmarks with both variations just to see the difference and posted them to let readers decide. Oh well, lessons learned. Chips are sold like CD-Roms. So a 500mhz would be a 100 and a 750 would be a 150 and a 1 ghz would be a 200. Hmm I can go from a 200 to a 204. Not worth 300 dollars.
