No, the windchill factor is a unique phenomenon known to man. The effect of wind on the body's perception of temperature is intangible yet shared by all human beings. Pretty interesting stuff.
"We've already crashed unmanned spacecraft there - Mars Polar Lander and possibly Beagle 2 - so there's already an environmental issue," Cockell told news@nature.com. He says the crashes are as irresponsible as dropping robots over the Antarctic."
As if these "irresponsible" crashes were intentional. Gimme a break!
Density has alot to do with the magnitude of surface gravity. It could be that if this was a core then this "planet" has no mantle/core but is just one big rock with no layers at all. That should "up" the surface gravity considerably.
I find it hard to believe that the dimming was detected with such a small resolution. I'd have to look into this. If it were possible to detect exoplanets with backyard telescopes then shouldn't have they been discovered 2 decades ago? We knew that dimming was indicative of an exoplanet back then.
"At those sizes, I would think the satellites/moons would have to be rocky. Even if they were composed of frozen gases, as they approached the day side of their orbit, they would vent off gases, and probably even form a tail, though most likely not a noticeable one from our vantage point "
In that case Mercury would not have an atmosphere. Mercury's atmosphere is composed of exiting gases like a comet. Yet, Mercury is considered to be a planet with an atmosphere.
With the timeline as it is no ST character will be alive during the film. However, I suggest taking it further. Why not INTRODUCE a totally new crew for ST 12. I am not impressed with the Voyager and DS9 crews and the stellar Enterprise crew will be a tough sell.
Don't mix US government funded space programs with the overall progression of the US space industry. US citizen-led space ventures are going splendidly thank you very much.
Tearing down a "glassy" building?

Amorphous Steel

Does anyone else foresee problems when a skyscraper made of these amorphous materials needs to be brought down in an urban environment. Fortunately with normal steel you can predict how it will react when you hit with a wrecking ball or detonate it but imagine the MESS that will be created when such techniques are used on a 1/5 mile superstructure.
I wonder if NASA was playing it a little too safe once again in regard to estimating the lifetime of the rovers. 16 months is a much longer lifetime then what they "expected". Same thing happened with Pathfinder as it lasted much longer than they "originally thought".
I am really looking forward to when Spirit reaches the Columbia Hills. If Spirit successfully reaches the top of the hill the view will be breathtaking. Not only could we see the landing site but also see the actual rim of Gusev Crater more clearly. It will be an amazing sight!
What if, hypothetically, the Chinese craft accidentally lands in Central Park. Who would have jurisdiction over retrieving the man and where would he go? Would we suddenly see Chinese spies in NYC coming out of the woodwork watching how we handle the mistake whilst whispering in their two-way radio cufflinks?
An infinite yet finite universe is too "illogical" to "out-there" to comprehend just as "what lies beyond the physical universe" is incomprehensible.
God can do the 'impossible'.
Spirit Opportunity Odyssey Surveyor Mars Express Beagle-2 Nozomi(if it makes it)
Cassini Deep Impact other comet missions
From what I understand the Surveyor and Odyssey will be the communication links. Does that mean we will stop getting data from those orbiters while the rovers are in operation? Also, will our DSN capacity be expanded in time for the missions (nov03-may04)?

"This doesn't suck" (high praise in Apple lingo). We had an impressive demo, but it would take months of hard work to turn it into a product.
ce until the late 1990's. Fraud????

The election of 2000 proved every system wrong.
Wow, I thought Battlefield 1942 was popular with 2,500 on a good day.

All of these complexities...much of which we do not know about attest to the amazing power of the Creator.
Typical liberal....

I say 16 months to cover late January to early June. I realize 1/04 - 6/05 is 17 months technically.

George Lucas is on a roll!
Does this mean we'll finally get Super Mario Brothers 4?!
Perhaps JPL would use the Instrument Deployment Device to prop the rover back up again.

The number of human years = 4
Mouse years = 136
The writer of this article switched it around. It happens.

I hope we're successful this time around. If we aren't we should still continue efforts to explore the Universe.
