i'm not sure that would work...you need to have some "standard" teaching material somewhere...if you let every individual professor/teacher alter their text book according to their spercifications, things could get out of control...think about the viewpoint an affrican high school teacher in mississippi might have while teaching about the civil war...or a staunch anti-war believer when teaching about vietnam...children's views of events would eventually become skewed...that's why it's good to have standardized text books...
of course, this relates mostly to elementary school & high school...obviously once you get into college, many teachers don't even use text books to begin with...
The summary of the story doesn't say that BEst Buy fired customers...you may have assumed that's what it meant...all it says is that "some stores have fired customers"...which is true...the article talks about some stores (such as Filene's) that have "fired" customers...
first off, i could live at best buy, i'm there atleast once a week just to look around, and check out the new releases in CDs and DVDs...but...they have the absolute worst customer serivce people ever...they're just not very smart at all, and not helpful...secondly, there's constantly long lines at their checkouts...sometimes i'll leave w/o buying something, just becuase i didn't want to wait in the long line...maybe they should worry about some of that stuff first..
in any case, enough on that rant...
...back to the issue...i guess this does worry my a little bit...seeing that they're tracking individual customers, and what they buy, and when they buy it (like only during sale periods)...the fact that i always use my best buy credit card, and my best buy rewards cards just gives them more of an opportunity to track me...i guess that's the last time i buy the "girls gone wild" dvd out of the "special interest" DVD section...jeez...
my thoughts exactly...who are you hurting there? not really microsoft...you're just hurting yourself...why *wouldn't* you want to be indexed in their search engine?
i randomly searched for "baseball" on both...
Microsoft's #1 results was the mlb.com website (which is what i would expect)...
Google's #1 result was baseball-almanac.com
doesn't really mean anything, just thought that was interesting...
Is the destruction process irreversible ?
The process which makes the DVD-D data unreadable is irreversible. Tampering with the erasing system is technically and economically impossible.
Before destruction start, there is no way of tampering with the disc;
After the destruction process is started, there is no way to significantly interfere with it;
There are no ways to repair the disc after the weathering process has made it unreadable. Solutions to repair the disc would be extremely complex.
Furthermore, there is limited rational interest in interfering with the destruction process :
All solutions targeted at reverse engineering the DVD-D to make it playable on a permanent basis are extremely costly and complex, if they can ever succeed;
Anyway, the reparation cost would be much higher than the cost of a permanent DVD, and this would never justify the involvement of anybody in such an operation.
Don't we hear something similar every time a new copy protection or ripping protection, or whatver similar concept is released? and then 30 minutes later some kid breaks it by holding down the <shift> key...

good math there...but you're not even counting the people they "free" from the matrix...throw them into the mix, and they can exponentially help increase the population...
- If you're referring the meeting when Agent Smith gave the note to Neo, I believe that was a virtual world, not "The" Matrix, but "A" Matrix.
no, he's referring to the point where agent smith "kills" on the of the real world humans, right before he accepts the phone call...at that point agent smith gets sucks into what we know as the "real world"...and his "consiousness" (sp?) inhabits the guy that is lying on the medical stretcher oppposite Neo at the very end of the movie...
yeah, um, i'm pretty sure they don't let you buy just a 10 second ad (i could be wrong)...in any case, a 30 second ad this year is going for $2.2 million...unreal...
nah, the little key chain ones aren't that expensive...i've seen the 3x3x3 key chain rubik's cubes sold in dollar stores...they'd be fun...until everyone gets frustrated and starts hurling them across the room...
first off, i wouldn't really call this 11 digit dialing, it's really 10 digits dialing (which a lot of places, including my home city of Philadelphia already use), plus a 1...
1 + 3 (Area Code) + 7 (Phone Number)...
in any case, what i wanted to get at was the size of information...from my college psychology classes, i seem to recall something about memory "chunks" and the ideal size for us to remember things are in blocks of 7...which is why 7 digit phone numbers worked so well...in any case, the 11 digits aren't so bad, because basically you have the 7 digits that are easy to memorize, the 3 digit area codes that are common between a lot of phone numbers, so they're easy to remember, and the 1, which you usually don't need, but isn't any big deal...
in any case, in the UK, a 6 digit number makes little sense, because as mentioned above, 7 digits is the optimal size for the brain to store, and by only using 6 instead of 7, you're losing like 9 million more possible numbers...
obviously with the 5 digit are code, there are more area code options, but i'd rather have a bigger base of phone number options, and a smaller base of area codes, then the other way around...
assuming you're serious about having read a book on your Visor, how much text could actually fit on one screen?, i mean, it seems like it could get pretty annoying having to scroll down after every two sentences or someting like that...
yeah, for those who didn't see it...Conan O'Brien guest starred as Andy's new boss...Conan's character (Fred) was, to say the least, a little nutty...in any case, his first action, was that he wanted co-workers to narc on each other if another employee was misappropriating office supplies, or things like that...
in any case, i love that show...it's hilarious, and damn, wendy & jessica are good looking...
again, i could just print out the pdf if i wanted to haul a "dead tree" edition down to the park...granted, it's not as nice as a boud copy, but still...

true, when you consider printer ink, printer paper, etc, the book might end up being cheaper after all...but then again, i can just print it out at work, and do away with all that overhead for me...
"i don't know. maybe you get halfway through reading the pdf, and need a book to go on holiday with."
well, first of all, it's a 67 page PDF file, it looks like each PDF page is two actual pages, so, the book overall is about 134 pages...not very long by normal "book" standarads...
in any case, as for taking it on holiday, or somewhere else with you...well, it's a "printable pdf", they even advertise it as that on the download page...i can print and take it with me anywhere i want...
i did enjoy the "0wnz0red" story, and i'll probably like this one...problem is, most of my friends are non-techies, and i doubt would find the same interest in the stories (assuming this one is similiarly geared towarads techies as 0wnz0red was)...none the less, i really enjoyed his writing the first time...

i just got that too...was working fine a few mins ago...ha, microsoft has been /.'d...
...they'll have a "Microooooooosoft" graphic at the bottom of the screen to allow you navigate between pages of results...
i mean, look what it did for tang!
I hope he got corporate sponsorship for that...that's excellent product placement...
That's amazing. I've got the same combination on my luggage.

oooohhh...one company that has a monopoly over a certain sector, and is all powerful...
can i suggest "Lucassoft"????
if they ever went public, the symbol could be "LSFT"...fits perfectly...

wedding customized condoms...you know, condom's where the package says "Dave & Rachels Wedding, January 24th, 2002", or whatever is applicable...
Ideally these would cost $4 or less and would provide some instant fun for the guests, so that it doesn't matter if they actually take them home.
i'm sure you could get these for under $4 a piece...and hey, the reception could definetly become "instant fun" if people start using them!

you forgot "Jabba The Hut" (Strangeled by Leia) and "Pizza The Hut" (Eats Himself)...
