1) rm * instead of rm *~ in/etc. That was on a slackware box. I took the opportunity to install FreeBSD.
2) a script that finds all files in the current dir, and moves them from their subdir to the current dir itself. I did this on my images directory, and I had to reorganise 22,000 images by looking at each.
3) rm file1 file2 instead of mv file1 file2. I no longer have file1.
1st RULE: You do not talk about FREEBSD PATCHES. 2nd RULE: You DO NOT talk about FREEBSD PATCHES. 3rd RULE: If the code says "stop" or goes coredump, the commit bit is over. 4th RULE: Only two comitters to a patch. 5th RULE: One patch at a time. 6th RULE: No GPL, no adware. 7th RULE: Commits will go on as long as they have to. 8th RULE: If this is your first night at FREEBSD.ORG, you HAVE to PATCH.
A guy on IRC told me he has one working, at least in console mode. He told me to keep it under wraps because he fears people will tell him that it's a stupid idea, or somesuch. Personally, I can't wait for it to be released.
Seeing Lord of the Fags is a treat? It looks like a shitty over-hyped movie to me, just like Star Wars, Harry Potter, et al. People that are so obsessed with a movie that they buy the limited DVD with 16 hours of "deleted scenes" and whatnot are total dorks. Go outside. Do something.
Further, what happened to "fuck the MPAA" and all that? Isn't buying every fucking little piece of merchandise is hardly "standing ground" against them.
Close the Slashdot BSD section. There's no point in reading it anymore. The troll to worthwhile comment ratio has grown too huge. Anyone that gives a mad fuck about BSD news will read it somewhere else. BSD probably _is_ dying, but who cares? Those that think that they are using a superior OS should silenty bask in our ignorance, not waste time telling us over and over that the OS we use (without any problems) is "dying."
Anyways, to be more on topic, distributed computing programs such as seti/folding truly are a goddamn waste of time. Why would you make your processor run hot all of the time so someone you don't even know can benefit from it? Call me selfish, but I fail to see the returns.

I'm running 4.8R here and loving it. I have every intention of putting 4.9 on when it becomes official, though I fear that PAE and ACPI might make it a little buggy. If enough people testify that it rocks like its older counterpart does, then 4.9 here I come!
I'm pretty sure that it has been decided that 4.10 will be the end of the road. Also, as the version minor increases, the difference between it an the previous version decreases. That is, by the time we had a 4.11/4.12, the unified diff would probably be only a hundred lines long...
Riiiiight. Thats under a meg a minute. Clearly this is a fabricated post. Show me some ps and vmstat/etc output, and i will newfs freebsd off right away.
I completely do not understand your post. I'm not even going to paste fragments to clarify, because I'd be pasting the whole thing. ACLs are cool beans, ok? Just leave it be, you'll be alright.
"Can you hear me now?"
"Good!"

Ah, yes, THE Kernel 2.4.26 is out. How could I not care? It is the ONE, TRUE Kernel after all...

I can't believe that companies like this are allowed to legally exist. What is the world coming to?
They need donations to be able to pay someone to fix the code.
- the polish - so many little annoyances from 3.1 are gone.
Yes, those polish sure do know how to get rid of little annoyances. Hats off to the little country that could!
should be 70 I think, 'Now Firing' (no quotes).

A German link, thanks.

I've gotten this over 80 times now. It has a few typos though, so falling for it would be dumb, to the point where if you did, you deserve it.
I feel sorry for the poor guy. If he knew how much GNOME licked crotch, he would be able to channel his talents in other directions.
Sad.
Saying "good old BSD" was a very big mistake.

That's a 25% peformance hit for booting! Just imagine a script that runs those programs often.
I'll keep 4.X thanks. Maybe I'll try DFBSD.
