Hey, until they start trampling the rights of average Joe or grandma, these very people aren't going to give a shit about 'those evil hacker criminals'.
What was that one saying..Something like, "and then they came for me, and there was no one left to defend me"? That was more or less the ending, anyway..
As long as this doesn't touch the average citizen, they aren't going to care.

"There may be some martyrs at every turn, such as Emannuel Goldstein and Derek Fawcus..."

The problem with this is that these two individuals were made out to be evil hackers, and thus no one (see:average joe. The majority) cared whether they fried or not.
I this regard, we should be taking notes from the black rights movement when they planted Rosa Parks on the bus. The RIAA isn't going to make a martyr out of averate Joe's grandma. And the day they do is the day the will have signed their own death warrants. We need an extreme like this to show the masses just how rediculous laws like this really are. Until then, we're nothing but evil hackers and music pirates in their eyes.

I doubt they would kick out the very thing that keeps them in office. That's right, you heard me. It's a widely known fact here that Liberals are notorious for letting immigrants into the country. Immigrants that will vote for them in return for a Country to call home.

Not to mention, no one hates us.
My neighbour was visiting a foreign country (forget which one) one year, and I swear, if you tell them you're American, they'll fucking shoot you. But, they really like Canadians. No shit.
He sat with the owner of a resort and shot the shit with him over drink and the owner talked about how almost every American who visits (that town anyway) acts like they have a god given right to the place. Like they just got off the boat and claimed the land as their own. They're all arrogant fucks. But they've had no trouble with the Canadians who visit. They all seem very polite. Which surprises me since I'm such an asshole.
I find the whole American arrogance stereotype a bit odd, since I know quite a few Americans (even dated one), and they're all very down-to-earth people. Having lived on both sides of the border, I can't say there's much of a difference between Americans and Canadians besides the obvious differences you would find from state to state or province to province.

Speaking of user interaction. Since posters are the ones providing Slashdot with all of it's content, will they get a piece of the action? Doubtful.
