    Why must we keep paying more and more for oil when there are other viable alternatives (uranium, solar power etc.).

    There are no viable alternatives to replace light sweet crude. The easiest way to deal with the increased energy costs is to adjust your presently inefficient lifestyle (that or learn how to invest).

    I use to be proud of the fact that I held a CS degree, but that changed when CS became more about job training than a science. If you want a real CS degree, then become a math major.

    Wetlands and delta conservation has long been a favorite target of dittoheads and other conservative groups, who have viewed it as a liberal waste of money and barrier to economic development. I wonder if they'll start to change their tune after this.
     
    The National Flood Insurance Program is responsible for the explosion in development along the nation's coasts, as no other insurer in their right mind will offer coastal coverage. (you can thank LBJ and the dem controlled congress for that one)

    I don't even mind the cost, since going to a movie with friends can be a nice outing. However, there are just too many obnoxious-uncivilized bastards out there who ruin the experience (One ethnic group in particular seems to have a monopoly on these creeps).

    Performing electrolysis with wind, solar and hydro power can produce hydrogen fuel that is 100% pollution-free and 100% renewable.

    Wind lacks energy density

    Solar PVs are negative energy efficient (yes, you need to factor in the mined platinum & palladium to the equation)

    Solar thermal lacks energy density

    Hydro power lacks scalability

    Nuclear is limited by Uranium reserves

    The current problem is that the vastness of America means that private companies don't find it cost effective to hook up Ma and Pa Kent out in the sticks. But under a government system, those people would get the service.

    The problem is Ma and Pa Kent living out in the sticks. Why should the rest of the population have to continue footing the bill for those who choose to live an inefficient lifestyle.
