I also have a Windows machine and a Linux machine at home. I don't use the linux machine much though because the hardware it is running on isn't very good. How many people actually have the time and patience to install another operating system such as Lindows? Or even the patience to learn how to use something different from either Linux or Windows.

I'll buy a Apple computer someday too, but I'm waiting for Apple to make an iMac with a built in toaster. It would be perfect for my kitchen.

Actually, you could get an upgrade version of Windows for about $100. If you wanted a full version you would have to pay at least twice that. Still, I think that would be stupid to buy an emulated version of Windows, when I could have the full version and Linux on a dual boot config. If your software tools don't operate correctly, then who cares what operating system you are using.

I never found the battles in any of the Final Fantasy series entertaining, except for the occasional boss that added to the story line. I think the problem is that it is too easy to fight. If you actually do lose a battle, you can simply gain experience points until your characters are strong enough to defeat the enemy. They should make it more challenging then that. I also prefer interactive battles like in Secret of Mana where you can actually fight the enemy without using silly menu commands.

I would say that billions in losses is correct considering how little they actually do enforce copyright law. If they didn't bother to enforce copyright laws at all than software companies would not make any money and would definitely loose billions. This is why they have to continue enforcing the anti-piracy laws even if it is mostly symbolic.

Since most people only use CDR's to transfer data or make copies of their music CD's I would guess that quality probably isn't the most important thing to some manufactures. That might not mean that the files are 100% intact though. Error correction on the CD can only recover so much of the file and it won't give you a warning if something is wrong.

And yes, college students don't have as much money to pay for software so they would rather steal it. What are some solutions to this?

You can often get student versions of software for much less than the commercial versions. You can usually find them in the book store of the college or through some websites. I've purchased quite a few products this way.

Some colleges are now requiring all students to pay a small fee ($100?) as part of their tuition and are then given a suite of Microsoft applications worth $1000. One thing I don't like about this is that it seems like they assume you are going to steal your software, so they charge you for something you may not even use or want.

I personally won't ever Warez because:
    1. It's morally wrong (most important reason) and
    2. I would be stealing from the industry I would be working for in the future.
