A Steve Jobs keynote is performance art. It's salesmanship taken to it's ultimate height. It's better rehearsed and staged than a Broadway musical. There's suspense, drama, comedy.
If any actor on Broadway or Hollywood could perform this well, they would quit and immediately start doing what Steve does. Because there's more fame, praise, adulation, and money in it than whatever they're currently doing.
It is probably a bit off-topic, but why doesn't Israel just give the fucking land back?
They tried that. The Palestinians weren't interested.
That is to say, the unelected, thieving thug claiming to represent the Palestinians wasn't interested. Now that said thug is in stable condition after dying in a Paris hospital, and there's a real democratic election coming, the potential Palestinian leaders now seem much more interested in the possibility of peace.
It's specifically designed to make it easy for corporations to find the cheapest labor possible, which pushes expensive US jobs overseas to be done by equally qualified professionals in other places like India for a fraction of the cost.
Outsourcing sucks for the American worker right now, but trade is certainly improving the quality of life in the world as a whole. Just look at the 10's (100's?) of millions whose standard of living is improving by leaps and bounds in India and China right now.
Furthermore, as much as Americans are complaining about outsourcing, we're learning to roll with it at the same time. Our economy is still growing, we're still creating jobs, and we still have much less unemployment than, say, Europe. Furthermore, we certainly had a great ride in the 90s fueled in part by trade. If not for trade, many people would not have had those great jobs to lose in the first place.
So, taken as a whole, I still believe a world with free international trade is better than one without.

You think the lack of a social safety net will lower your taxes. But those who are unemployed are not going around doing nothing.
This is exactly the argument for the U.S. system, where we have about half the unemployment rate of Europe. All of those unemployed people in Europe are bringing the European economy almost to a halt, and it's only getting worse. What's the GDP growth rate over there, half of the U.S.? Less?
For as far as I can see, dear poster and dear citizen of the US: we here in Europe don't need and have never asked for your protection. Moreover, I think most people here do not believe in the means of protection you are giving
Why have your governments not asked us to leave? We're starting to do that voluntarily, as the idea of letting Europe protect herself is quite popular here, as well.

Unbelievable. You run around proclaiming that the U.S. will be come a theistic state, while Canada has already become one. Er, a bunch of them.

What's so un-libertarian about letting people pay for their smut? Where's the guarantee in the constitution of free (beer not speech) smut?
Whatever tawdry thing you desire to entertain yourself with, you can get it without very much effort in the United States of America. But broadcast airwaves are considered a PUBLIC resource. So it is subject to the mobocracy of public opinion.
Howard Stern is a great example of the market at work. He annoyed enough people in the general public that he got booted off the public airwaves. But you can still listen to Howard every morning to your heart's content, just as long as you pony up a few bucks for satellite radio.
So that's what bugs me about the way this debate is being framed. It's a free beer issue dressed up to look like a free speech issue.
Think about it. you have a exponential growth in complaints aren't you even curious about what group be it age range geographic area, etc that this is coming from.

I love the chemistry between Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. It's corny, but you have pure logic on one side and pure passion on the other, with Kirk mediating in the middle. Spock's subtle putdowns of McCoy are classic. They always got a smirk out of Kirk.
This was probably the single strongest over riding theme of TOS, emotion versus intellect. Nimoy was amazing as Spock. None of the actors playing Vulcans since can carry his plastic pointy ears as an actor. You could always see the emotion Spock kept tightly under control was there under the surface, but never escaped (contrived plot twists not withstanding).
My favorite episode is when we finally meet Spock's mom and dad. Spock and Sarek put on a great show of logic and rationality, but Spock's mom sees through it effortlessly and scolds them for their stereotypically emotional father/son rivalry.
At the end of the episode, with both Spock and Sarek in sick bay as the result of some heroic something or other, Mom comes in to fuss over both of them. Spock looks at Sarek and says "Quite illogical, isn't she?" Sarek agrees. Mom just smiles.

Actually, I seem to remember reading recently that the performance of "the mob" in answering questions is often better than that of "experts". If you have a large enough group of people to answer a question, and take the most popular response, it's pretty likely to be right.
An example given for this was on the "Millionaire" show, where the audience poll "lifeline" outperformed the call an expert "lifeline".
So they vote for a tax cut and increased spending knowing it means more northern liberals are shelling out for them.
Uh, how can across the board tax cuts mean that northern liberals are shelling out MORE money than they were before the tax cuts? Or did I miss the part about tax cuts being just implemented in Red States?
Besides, isn't paying lots and lots of taxes a liberal's single favorite activity? Their voting behavior would seem to indicate that.

How often did Jesus talk about homosexuality, abortion, or assisted suicide?
As for children, I believe he said if anyone hurt one of them, he would be better off thrown into the sea with a millstone around his neck. So I have a hard time believing he would support a party that supported killing one of them while half out of the womb.
As for homosexuality, he gave tacit approval to the system condemning it. Surely, he could have spoken out against the draconian punishments meted out to homosexuals in his day, as he spoke out against so many other misappropriations and misuses of God's law?
No, he didn't talk about assisted suicide, but I don't think Dr. Kevorkian got started until much later.

But, despite the Republicans throwing those that have strength of faith some Old Testament bones, it is the God-fearing liberal Democrats like John Kerry that best exemplify the self-sacrifice and social compassion Jesus had.
Is your idea of compassion putting people into desolate public housing projects where the only viable occupation is selling drugs and going to prison is seen as a rite of passage? Is your idea of compassion a failing school system where teacher's unions blame everything and everyone else and refuse any and all change?
And if you believe the state is the rightful source of compassion, shouldn't the state ensure that material blessings are enjoyed equally by all? Is that truly the compassionate thing?
Finally, did Jesus suggest that taking someone ELSE's money and giving THAT to the poor is the definition of compassion? Or was that Robin Hood?
And I'm waiting to hear how John-I-marry-money-Kerry has exemplified self sacrifice, since returning from Vietnam (yes, his service there was truly self sacrificing, no sarcasm intended).
This is pathetic. Kerry proudly supports tax-payer funded abortions on demand from conception to infantici....err, partial birth...,err, dilation and extraction abortions. Meanwhile, Democratic senators are in hysterics that appointing a Bush justice to the lowest level of the Federal bench will instantaneously revoke RvW.
Democrats certainly are trying to convince the country that Bush is far, far more pro-life than Kerry. Probably 'cause it's true.
