I don't see how this could be different than the 360 launch, since it's doubtful that someone who wants a PS3 will buy a Wii instead simply based on availablity, and vice-versa. Just because there's more than one 'new' console coming over the holiday season isn't going to matter much. People will save their money until there's more available, or watch eBay for their chance at the console they WANT.
PEOPLE, *come on*...The oppurtinuity has *always* been there, just the same with printers, FAX machines, photocopy machines, briefcases, and telephones. What the hell is all this crap about? Why are people so goddamn paranoid about new technology and oblivious to old? If it's gonna get out, it will, one way or another - PERIOD.
Treat employees as one of your own - build LOYALTY, and these things won't happen.
Treat employees as criminals, they will be DISLOYAL, they will be there only because you feed them paychecks, and this will happen no matter WHAT you do.
What's even more interesting is the screenshot of a Microsoft employee's desktop... MSN Messenger? Nope, Yahoo! IM. Windows Media Player? Nope, Musicmatch Jukebox. He uses Netscape for email and news, at the least, probably web browsing too. And he's got Hummingbird Exceed for remote X11 sessions...
Interesting, to say the least, from the limited view of his desktop; I'd like to have a look through his 'Add & Remove Programs'...
Actually, it doesn't matter what they're watching, you still won't be able to tune to the channel they're watching it on - they warn you not to change the channel when you order the flick. Instead, you simply tune to the 'menu' channel, and order whatever you want to watch, whether they're watching it or not.
This method basicaly amounts to changing the network address to another room that's enabled with all the PPV services. Just remember to change it back in the morning before you check out...
The thing is, whoever's room you 'attach' to - gets *BILLED* for the stuff you do. I can only imagine being in Hawaii, at one of these hotels, ordering the most expensive porn, then coming down to check out the next day and see some 70 year old couple on an anniversary vacation fighting and bitching at each other because she thought he ordered a porn while she was sleeping at 3:00am!!!!
I'll not say how I know this, but I will say it's nothing new to me.
Unfortunately, most laptop vendors don't even put serial ports on their laptops now (though strangely, they still include a parallel port?) so it's tough to even sync with an older serial based Palm.
What about those of us who log 200+ hours into Final Fantasy Tactics ADVANCE, yet do so on their couch staring at their PS2, PS1, GameCube, N64, and Xbox all the while wishing there was a game captivating enough, fun enough, and with enough game-play, let alone FUN enough to keep them playing it for nearly 200 *hours* (or even *close* to that amount of time!) on any of those consoles??
Aside from the 'console wars', the developers need to come up with better games, that last longer, keep your captivity longer, and those that do, are the consoles people will buy - I bought a GBA SP for the sole purpose of playing FFT Advance. I don't plan on buying another game for this console at this time.
People watch TV shows for 5-10+ years because the story doesn't end (The Simpsons, X-Files, Friends!). When the story ends, they find a different channel that has another good story they can become a part of. Point being, when the 'good show' ends, the channel gets switched.
It's not about the quality of the console (or the channel), it's about the content, and how worthwile it is to stay on that platform and play the games, than to switch to play better games.
So do what I've done, and run your own local SMTP server. This is included with Windows 2000 (IIS5) and is VERY easy to install and secure. Just send your own mail! Plus, mail get delievered faster, most of the time.

This isn't by chance BLIZZARD we're talking about here, is it??
One can only hope....
#1.) Slashdot is 100% mobile compatible.
#2.) I'm browsing, reading and commenting on a Samsung i700 - low resolution, slow connectivity, and it's perfect.
#3.) I wish more sites were as accessible as this.
Isn't this the way new Open Source projects are started?
And I quote: "We really believe that with their help, we'll be able to clean up this DOS mess..."
My question is: When are they going to clean up this *Windows* mess?!

Many things are easier to get working on Gentoo than others...THANK YOU PORTAGE!!!
First Post!!

Does anyone know where I can get RedHat 6.0 RPM's for this? Would be greatly appreciated!
