Why is it that for a dot dot update (which I thought was for bug-fixes) some/all of my extensions are disabled by the browser due to version incompatibility? I ended up waiting two weeks after 1.0.1 came out before switching, since my preferred set of extensions refused to work.

As much as I like Mozilla and Firefox, they really need to learn how to gracefully handle bug-fix releases.

I must disagree. There are tons of legitimate uses of 302 status codes that shouldn't pay a price for someone else's abuse.

The best solution would probably involve some extra layer that would relate the page being directed to and the page doing the redirection are owned by the same entity. However, that isn't very reasonable right now (maybe if it were somehow integrated into a future version of HTTP?) as the only way to encourage people to use that scheme would be people who've been burned by the abuse.

There are a lot of differences between "the end" and "the ending". Everything ends. However, not everything has an ending. Let alone a satisfying one.

Videogames today are as much as a storytelling medium as anything, and an engaging story ought to have a satisfying ending. Halo 2 was (imo) fairly engaging (with all of it's politics and religious intrigue and whatnot) and when it was over it was more like playing 1942.

Partially due to the crappy ending I will not be purchasing the next Halo game. I will rent it and feel okay about blowing 4 bucks to see another "to be continued" crap screen rather than spending 50 to be jerked around.

The reason Apple isn't using FLAC is that the iPod's CPU couldn't do real-time decoding of FLAC. It's the same problem with OGG. The codecs are too good (compression-wise) to be used.

I doubt if this is still the case with newer generation iPods, but it was a reasonable decision to make up a new lossless format since older 'pods couldn't keep up.

I've decided that DRM makes a lot of sense, as of reading this article.

However, I realize that on the one hand, artists need to have some sort of say in how their work should be used. At the same time, DRM needs to be setup so that an artist can allow people to use their work, and that real fair use is allowed. There also needs to be a reasonable way for me as a consumer to license a work to use in a way that I want to. If I want to use a song in a slideshow, there ought to be a simple way I can do this that satisfies the artist.

Current DRM schemes don't seem to allow much more than a black-and-white do or don't allowance. While this doesn't quite cut it for today, that's not a good enough reason to dismiss the entire system.
